Q:

Quick Fill mod passes hydro testing…..WHAT??????????

Well it seems that the quick fill mod has passed the hydro test….
It works and it is safe…
Now all the nay sayers can publicly admit that they have no idea what
you are talking about when it comes to drilling and taping bottles, and that you were wrong and AZ and Tim are right……..
You have just been schooled by Tim @ Mac1….Another non certified
hack that has helped to improve this hobbie and make it safer…

Remember when the world was flat?

Never hurts to have an open mind….

——————————————————————————–

I promised I’d post the pics when the Spirit of America Replica Jet Car was completed. This car is CO2 powered by two 20 oz tanks attached through the base of both tanks.
What makes this post on topic is there has been considerable controversy about whether this is an acceptable modification to drill and tap tanks with threads to accept Quick connect couplings. Because we like to make sure we are doing things safely we had the two Siamese 20 oz tanks hydroed as a unit and they passed for pressures generated by CO2 systems. The car was clocked at 68 MPH on a 32 foot tether making a 64 ft diameter circle in about 2 seconds. Total run time is just over 2 minutes. Larry Goddard is the builder with CO2 tanks provided by Mac1 and Hydroed by Ross Fire Extinguishers in Long Beach CA. The Jets Horn shape was generated from input from a good friend who worked on the Shuttle thruster development at Marquart.
Larry has some extraordinary toys including a paddle shift Ferrari 430 I’ve been invited to test drive when I get back from South Africa next month.
Larry does very clean work. He is definitely a toy lover and creator. To visit his home in Malibu is a delight and I do so as often as I’m invited.
He has some very nice airguns and is one of those guys that really enjoys his wealth.

You are showing your colours.

the hydro passed for ” CO2 pressures”

so what would that prove for 3,000psi fill systems?

Mam:

Wow you sure got a sharp toung there!

I didnt say anything bad about you!

If you knew me, you would know the above statement was false!

I love you too!

One hydro dosent mean that it wont develop a crack after it is pressure cycled 50 times.

That is what the manufacturer would do.
Cycle it a thousand times to make sure the design is correct.
They also pressure test the tanks to failure so they know what their safety factor is. If the sell a 3000 psi tank, I’ll bet the typical failure pressure is 6 0r 7 thousand PSI or higher.

Have you noticed, the neck of a tank is really thick?
Theres a reason for that, it was designed to be tapped.
The bottom of the tank is not that thick, nor does it have the same shape.

MAM:
Can you gaurentee that it will be safe for 3000 PSI tanks?
You did it for one type tank, will drilling any tank be safe?
This is a bad procedure to advertise on the internet, because some one will read your post and start drilling holes willie-nilly on his tank.
He might not even have the skills to choose the right tap drill.

The center of the bottom of the tank is the least stressed part of the tank.
If some one extrapolates from your post, that they can drill a hole anywhere in the tank and get away with it — they might have a huge accident!

Drilling a tank IS an ill advised and unsafe procedure unless you have the resources to FULLY test the design.

Same goes for a new tank..What’s your point?….AZ’s mod has been
cycled thousands of times without a failure..Now what is your point.?..

I could be mistaken but I think a hydro test is 1.5 time the working
pressure….Feel free to correct me…

Evidentally you don’t understand AZ’s mod or how much thickness it
takes to tap a tank..AZ & Tim both understand otherwise they wouldn’t
do it….Are you now saying Tim McMurray is a hack too????

No one ever said or infered that you could, would, or should drill
anywhere you want on a tank except you…Now your reaching trying to
make yourself right….Remember the mod works without a
failure..Evidentally you are incapable of comprehending how it is
done…..Ignorance is a dangerous thing when you are trying to inform
the masses….It can ruin peoples reputations pointlessly…Or maybe it is
for your own gratification.

Guarantee….You might want to talk to that hack that built the World Field
Target Championship rifle and let him know that you don’t approve of his
posting the mod on the Yellow Forum…..Maybe he will guarantee it or at
least have some kind words for you..I am not sure why you need a
guarantee…You’re evidentally not going to be buying or getting within
400 miles of an Quick Fill mod….And please save me the thought that
you are concerned for the well being of everyone everywhere…This mod
is not life threatening…

I have a very simple solution for you or anyone else that has
reservations about the mod….
Don’t try this at home and
Don’t have it done by anyone that has not successfully done it before
hundreds of times ….
Now… Is that the caveat you were looking for MM123522?

Oh yea, one more thing…For anyone that is wondering about my
signature at the bottom.
I consider my signature a metal of bravery earned by voluteering to get
beat up defending this mod and the guys that were brave enough to think
outside the box………..We have a bunch of guys like that here but from
now on, you are on your own….lol 😆

Maybe Theoben and BSA will start doing the quickfill mod ala AZ now 😯

I totally understand your point. And i appreciate what you are
saying..The manufacturers do not want to go
through the hassel of getting it approved…OK!. I think that is
smart..They would not sell enough of them to warrant the cost.
But maybe some day they will, and maybe if I bring my moderators
to the BATF office they
won’t put me in cuffs…lol…I’m not holding my breath….I think my point
all along was that it isn’t an issue worth noting any more than removing
the safety from a gun….And surely wasn’t alarming enough to infer that
AZ was a hack or was jeopardizing lives by selling the mod….
It works, it always has worked and there has NEVER EVER been an actual
issue with it….It was never worth mentioning or making it sound so
dangerous that it scared the crap out of anyone that was thinking about
having it done..Some poor soul in England actually cut his bottle in half
and threw it away due to the negative publicity…That was a waist…May
as well throw away the gun too….Guns are more dangerous than the AZ
Quick Fill mod…..
I am not defending the mod for my sake..I “couldn’t care less” what peeps
think about how dangerous it is…I am not asking anyone to shoot my
gun nor am I bringing it to a range and ENDANGERING! lives….I was
standing up for and defending a guy that has done more for this
hobbie/sport than any of us or the nay sayers, AND because he chooses
not to utilize the internet, he is not present to defend himself or his mod..

What is the failure pressure of those modfied tanks?
What is the safety factor?

I cant believe that a responsable hydro service company would pass a modified tank!!!!!!!!!! I am sure that its against the rules, and maybe the law!! Those guys should know better!

Mam,

Give the D.O.T. a call as I did. They are the governing body on safety and will give you an answer.

Didn’t say it was legal, D.O.T. certified, or approved, just safe…
D.O.T. doesn’t govern anything at my house..Neither does the BATF…I am not calling them about the legality of moderators either..

Figured as much. 😉
