R3 .30 caliber problem and fix
The Problem:
I first noticed after about 2K rounds my velocity dropped off. That can be common, sometimes the HST needs to be readjusted. So I screwed in the HST 1/4 turn and I was back at the 890 fps I was before. I was fine for about another 150 rounds until the real problem started. The gun started behaving erratic when trying to find zero on my target. I put the Matador on the chrony and I found a strange phenomenon. When the gun was full (220 BAR) no manner where the HST was set the most I could get out of the gun was 750 fps. As the pressure in the reservoir dropped the speed conversely would rise until below 150 bar the speed was at 912. I concluded that the valve must be stuck and the reason for the change in speed is that the valve gets more resistance from the air in the reservoir the higher the pressure. The valve must be allowed to move freely in the regulator. The belleville washers are clean, the O rings are perfect and the regulator is assembled correctly. What I found was the valve stem was slightly bent. I know this problem developed over time because the gun was super consistent when I was new. . The valve stem was not too long as it was in Ed’s factory specs. I straightened the valve stem reassembled the gun and I still had the same problem.
The fix:
what I found was the valve stem was slightly oversized and a little rough. Because the stem is steel and the valve stem housing is brass the valve was getting caught/sticking and in my opinion the valve couldn’t open enough. When the gun fell below the 150 pressure setting the valve didn’t have to work as hard to move forward when the hammer hit the stem. I polished the valve stem with 220/20/400/600/800/1200/2000 grit paper on a lathe until I could see my reflection in the valve stem. The valve moved like it was on ball bearings inside the housing. The regulator gave me 24 shots with the average at 880 and the ES at 2.6 fps.
I welcome any criticism you may have about my fix. It’s is possible that I just got lucky. Hell, it’s better to be lucky than good anyway.

Ed, so for those of us that have been away for a bit can you give me/us a laid out plan or roadmap as to you gen 1&2 fix, when it will be available, how we are going to get it and if it will be under a warranty? Im sitting on a very new broken gun and if there is not parts coming soon then im sending it back to you.
I updated information in my topic regarding this. I do hope that at the end of March I will request for the addreses to send.

The back plugs are in the production now. I don’t know if the valves arrived it (still travelling home from IWA, now is sitting in Helsinki airport, waiting for the next flight) I do hope to have some preliminary information next week. Anyhow I am not glad about that issue and I don’t forget about it, don’t worry, just things are not done as soon as I would like to but they will be fulfilled.

This is just an update
KS, I am glad you convinced ED to do this. Not knowing I needed the heavy hammer I went down this path early on with a gent from the UK who made the mods for me. My valve house was modified to accept the 4mm stem which required a brand new brass sleeve due to the original not having enough wall after drilling even to 3mm… it was way to thin in his estimation. So he just opened it up, rethreaded it and made a new sleeve and valve to fit. I probably went 1mm to big to be honest but it wouldn’t have worked either way with the Gen 1 hammer. The OEM sleeve (far left) is fine threaded all the way from top to bottom and was a pain to get out. The current 4mm sleeve is on the right side. My sleeves can now be swapped out with 2 and 3mm bores if needed. The only thing I needed was the heavy hammer which John is taking care of now.
KS and John have been a big help with this. I certainly appreciate your efforts guys. I started down a different path but we finally met up at the fork in the road. 😀

how many troubled thoughts….. but the situation is very clear though.
The “Queen” on this chessboard is Tony Rudenko….. and the “King” in difficulty trying to save his word and honor is Ed (or Eduard)…
(So far Ed seems to be a man of honor and on this account he has my respect)

By the way I am not saying Soze is Eds agent I did not mean that. I know he loves his Edguns and loves this sport. But he did save Eds ass and I know his main concern are for folks who bought the thirty caliber some are his buddies and others bought on his reviews. What I am saying is letting Ed off the hook is not the solution or this will continue to happen. He Ed has not came up with a solution but Ernest ,John Hagan have with Soze pushing
There is no clean up for this anyone who does business this way shouldn’t be trusted! I don’t care who is telling us to trust them. Edgun has no Warrantee in these united States. If you buy guns you better be ready to fix them yourself or get some one to fix them.

What I am so confused about is why Keyser Soze is leaving this information on TAG????? Where is Ed and Edgun after all Ed’s poor customer service and race to pump out guns that have not been tested have created this mess???? Keyser Soze commissioning John Hagan saved Ed’s ass now Keyser is ushering in ED’s FUTURE FIX as if ED fixed it already and all is well. Is Keyser Soze an Agent for Edgun why is he cleaning up after them???? Why is there always an intermediary doing the explaining after a collapse in trust and Confidence weather it be for Wild West Airguns, AGN, Ted or Edgun? Always distractions like War. Why is Soze smoothing the way for Edgun why is not Edgun here giving us this info? Nope there is a front person some one to give us the story line and clean up. The clean up for Ed the clean up for the business?
This business is a strange business.
So happy if this is true. As my 2nd generation 30 cal is only 5 months old. It cost me a lot of money with shipping. Can’t afford any more money to be honest. :8:
I just communicated with Eduard regarding the .30 caliber factory fix. As you know by now you can contact John Hagan and he will make a new valve and drill the regulator plug for you. After this is done there is a little bit of tuning you’ll have to do in order to get the desired speed for the JSB 44.75. Eduard wrote me that he has decided to just make new plugs for our guns. I informed Ed that drilling the plug left very little brass in the bushing where the valve stem rides. So EDgun has new plugs in production and valves as well. The new system will be drop in and easy to fix by yourself. He apologizes for not communicating on TAG but he said he is focused on making parts for the gun and obviously getting the new guns ready for IWA.

sorry oakey but i have learned my lesson on guns and i never sell. it will work or i will mess with it till there is nothing left. Besides i just got it in nov and that $ amount is a tad insulting even if it where for sale.
