Received my "Knock-off" Atlas Bipod today !
Got the Atlas-copy/knock-off/whatever Bipod today. I haven´t hold an original Atlas in my hand so i don´t know exactly how it feels and so but this one looks exactly like it does on those Greenbase pics and is a well made piece as it seems. Definitely worth the price. As i said before i only have good experience with Greenbase (have bought loads of stuff from them in more than a dozen occasion) and the Bipod in question is as described and well worth those few bux it cost.

What has happened here is one or more Chinese companies have purchased our bipod then copied it infringing the UTILITY PATENT then by copying our engraving “ATLAS” they are infringing on our COPYRIGHT.
The 15% rule applies IF it changes the FUNCTION protected by the UTILITY PATENT, and that guideline is a loose reference point.
What would 15% difference between the real bipod and the copied bipod? A non-swiveling base? Add to that different legs, different leg adjustment screws? This shit is seriously difficult to prove one way or the other.
An easy example is the 45 degree leg position that is covered by our patent. Easy to prove. And no going with 50 degree does not avoid the infringement due to the wording of the patent application.
The patent can’t just cover “bipod” since there are variants (I assume Harris has a bipod design patent). It has to be a patent on a specific method/operation/part. Do you know if Harris has a patent or has licensed it’s patent to all those companies that essentially make close to exact copies?
Correct it is the NOVEL features that are patented, like the leg positioning of the Atlas. I believe patents, if kept current are good for 17 years, after that they can be copied.
I have to ask (and not trying to be a dick), what have you done to stop the importation of these knock-offs (assuming you are the owner of the original)?
Great question, that is why we licensed the V7 to PTS so they could be our business partner in Asia and as such would protect their interest by pursuing the counterfeiters in their home country. However before they could go into production, out comes the counterfeit V8. So while we are going to rework the contract we have the current situation.
Pippo, We knew there would be a market for a less expensive Atlas bipod and we took steps to insure there was a good and faithful copy by licensing to PTS.
As far as stopping the counterfeits, that is a frustrating situation, we are doing all we can and getting some result but frankly the US government can care less about 14 American jobs, they have free phones to give away…

All producers/manufactures worlwide have suffered from chinese counterfeit products. This is the reality and this is not good and this is wrong, but please let me explain the feeling of average consumers about buying these products.
Would I ever buy a counterfeit Harley Davidson to take a ride long Route 66 feeling the same myth as with an original Harley? No and never!
Would I buy a cheap chinese bike (even if it looks like a Harley) for my daily rides back and forth from home to the train station? Yes, certainly.
It would be really (in my opinion) out of any logic to buy an original Harley to leave it unattended at the train station, a cheap chinese product is just good enough for this.
So at the end in the two different situations I would buy in the first WILLINGLY an original Harley and in the second WILLINGLY a cheap chinese one and the fact that it looks like a Harley is just by chance and adds only some pleasure to the buy (I like the look of the Harley) but it is not the deciding factor, my first need is to buy a low cost product to go to the train station and leave it there unattended.
Would I buy an original Atlas to put it on an air rifle? Again, no and never, well at least not on a cheap one. Do you think there is any logic in putting a bipod on an airgun that costs more than the rifle itself? OK, Edguns are not cheap so maybe the combination there could still be meaningful but apart the few Edguns sold in the US, what about the thousands and thousands of Daisys and Benjamins sold every year, do you think they all mount an Atlas? If you want to hit also that market share you should probably better offer a cheap version designed specially for airguns and airsoftguns saying that it is ALMOST as good as the bigger brother but meant for “weaker situations”.
This is just to tell you that in my opinion the majority of people is not supporting POSITIVELY counterfeit products, sometimes they just fill a gap.

So I didn’t waste my time reading this thread from where it restarted but is this an illegal clone as well on Amazon.com for 58.99? Shipped direct from HK like many of their offerings now. It says “airsoft only” hinting at some loophole in any infringement. They have much bigger problems to worry about if Amazon is running illegal clones and are wasting their time here.
Ville is right – GB is now making the Bobro and the GG&G. I guess it won’t be long before the brand new Sinclair Tactical bipod is out there. Anyone have these two yet?
Not counterfeiting necessarily, straight up willful patent infringement, often taken directly from the patent itself. With counterfeiting the person making the original typically makes a better product by a long shot. Sometimes the path of the highroad is the only sane way to go to keep one’s sanity.
