Q:

Reduced Report .25 R3M Std

Hello guys and Happy New Year.

I know this topic has come up several times with multiple options. I thought I would share a simple DIY slip-on that I’ve been running for several months with good results.

I used stuff laying around my house. 1″ ID black poly pipe, 1/2″ OD poly pipe, 3/8″ wide self adhesive felt weather stripping, epoxy and a 1″ X 3/8″ spacer.

I simply epoxy’d the spacer in the front. This makes a decent end with adequate clearance for inaccuracy that may be inherent in a slip-on design. On a belt sander, I flattened the end of the tube so that it would slip on the end of the Edgun shroud with clearance between the slipon LDC and the air reservoir. I drilled holes equally spaced around the circumference of the LDC immediately in front of the end of the Edgun shroud. I wrapped and adhered a layer of the weather stripping to the 1/2 inch pipe. This is then a very good fit in the id of the LDC and serves as an end stop as well as baffling over the drilled holes. I finished by sanding the pipe to a cool looking suede looking finish and touched up the nylon spacer with a sharpie.

Took about 40 minutes and made from scrap pieces valued at about $3.

This will sound really goofy, but I wrapped 2″ clear packing tape around my Edgun shroud at the very end to build it up for a snug slip-On fit.

I think it looks OK and it works surprisingly well for what it is. As far as accuracy… Edgun is amazing and there is no impact at all with this LDC. If the wind cooperates it will hold 1″ at 100 yards provided I do my part.

I ordered Hagan’s Edgun LDC adapter, and am going to give Donny’s LDC a try.

Today, I drilled four holes in the front shroud, on two sides, between the baffles. The Colibri does this, however the outcome was indecisive, neither louder nor quieter.

The Standard is a reasonably quiet gun, but in .25 caliber it’s not quiet enough for all neighborhoods. Depends on who your neighbor’s are.

An improvement for Ed to consider for his shorter pcp’s, put a male threaded end on the front shroud, for attachment of an LDC. A cap to cover it, when not in use, would be very nice. The Short and Standard shrouds lack an affordable, or easy way, to quiet them down for those of us with assholes for neighbors.

When the new stuff shows up I’ll post some pictures and results for you guys to check out.

Thank you for sharing the info

As long as you don’t live next to a nosey, bug-eyed Bitch, like I do, there is no need to do anything to the .25 Standard. In fact, it shoots rather “hot” out of the box, and noise can be seriously reduced just by lowering the fps with the HSA. Also, Ed seemed to indicate to a forum member that the reg would settle down on its own, after some use, and the fps would likely slow down to a somewhat slower speed. That alone will reduce the report without doing anything.

I absolutely love the .25 caliber. Lots of punch and power. There is absolutely no doubt that what you hit will stay hit.

Thanks Hoot. That is what I wanted to know. .25 standard is plenty quiet for a farm yard. Going to leave mine just the way it is.

I told you so Hoot…. It’s only really loud to the shooter because your ear sits on the hammer

:hoot:

I drilled out the OEM holes to 5/64ths, but noticed no difference in sound level. Then I remembered that I did this the last time on a “Long”, and it did make a difference with the longer shroud.

The gun is not loud to begin with, just not as silent as I’d like. I don’t believe venting further would produce any meaningful results. Looks like I need an LDC.

I shot my .25 Standard last night, over water, and it was VERY quiet, compared to other airguns. I may not need anything more, but probably will enlarge the vent holes just a tiny bit.

Whatever happened to Donnyfl…??? Usually he chimes in by now.

Kind regards,

Uncle Hoot:

Is this stock or have you already drilled out the existing holes?

Please let us know of the details if you drill the vents

How about starting a thread to ask ED to improve the shroud on .25 EDgun. Make it like a .30

Donny says “what’s 10 inches and drives the ladies crazy?”

I really don’t think a .25 is a backyard gun (unless you have a large yard) The thing is the Eddie .25 is much louder to the shooter. Have a friend shoot the gun from 20-30 feet away and the report is very low. This is especially true with donny’s LDC.

I can’t get Donnyfl to answer my pm’s, emails, forum posts, letters, phone calls, or home visits…

I don’t think he wants me to have his LDC. I think he hates me, and wants me dead!

PS: Furthermore, I think Donnyfl may be a Lesbian!!! (He has never admitted sleeping with a man)

My .25 Standard Eddy is the loudest PCP I own. Quite a bit louder than the Standard Eddy .30. :suprisedn:

I would think that a single shot (brain shot-DRT) with the .25, done late at night when everyone’s sleeping/lazy, with an IR NV setup to operate in darkness, LDC to keep the volume down, would go pretty much unnoticed. However…

My experience with the R3M .25 is that it is not a “stealth” gun. The sound made by the pellet sizzling through the air and then hitting the target like a firecracker going off could be attention drawing. Donny’s LDC does a great job of bringing down the report volume, but for me the .25 is not down to the level of neighbor-unaware plinking session, unless I’m building something with air tools. I guess it depends on how close or nosy your neighbors are.

Mine are very close (townhouses) and I have to use my Prod+TKO+IR NV at only 650 FPS to stay super-stealthy. Loudest noise with that is critters death-helicoptering their way into the trash cans and knocking them over.

If you do decide to enlarge the holes in the R3M shroud, I’m interested in hearing your findings.
