Q:

Scope for the P12

Hello guys!

So I finally ordered a P12 .22!

Probably arrives next week. But now I need a scope for it. I’ll try to use it in the 50-120 y range

I have 3 options for now:

Hawke 3x9x40
Leapers 3-12×44 36 colours
Tasco target varmint 6-24×42

What are your opinion on those please?

Regards, Calil :fishinghole:

If I start telling how things works here you will send a plane rescue me. Things are like living hell here! haha :angrymob:

Now another option poped up. A Hawke eclipse 4-16×50. A bit more expensive, off course but it’s a much better scope.

Thinking, thinking, thinking…… :biggrinn: 🙄

lol calil. i wish i had a plane myself. id be livin large in brazil with what little money i have here id be rich there lol

With 16x zoom can I go to 100~130 yards you think? For example I watched Ted killing doves @ 130 y with 10x on his sidewinder

can definately reach to 100y buddy.

the target wont be very big and remember, the leapers scopes ALL have thick crosshairs, if you can get one with ethced glass for a good price do it. the lines are much much finer then with the standard scope crosshairs

thats something thats been missed. thwe etched glass will be a clearer picture as well compairable to the hawke

you should be able to. His scope is a x20 so there will be only a slight difference in target size as viewed through the scope. If you’re shooting targets the size of pigdons, you might even consider turning the magnification down a bit because you’re holdover will be close if not below the bottom of the scope at x16.

In the 165 yard bottle shot, I had mine scope set on the minimum of 6.5 and if I recall, was about 7 mil dots down.

you might want to consider downloading the Chairgun program (free) and use it to help you determine your optimum zero and holdover for target distances. If you have any questions concerning the program and how it works, feel free to PM me and I’ll be glad to help.

The hawke will have the better clarity and the thinner reticle. If you can swing it, go with the hawke. Also consider getting the small 2″ side wheel for it. It is much eaiser to adjust the focus than the small turret. You don’t need the 4″ unless you have hands that allow you to palm a soccer ball :winkn: and it can actually cause focusing more difficult.

Don’t forget the mount as the Hawke line of scopes do not come with any type of mount.

With the thinner reticle on the Hawke the 16x will get you out past 75 yards without blotting out a 1″ target.

I gave up taking the shilba scope. I didn’t liked the reticle

I’m on now two options (since I can’t import the scope my self, I’m restricted to the ones I find here already in Brazil):

Hawke Eclipse 30 SF 4-16×50
Leapers UTG 4-16X44 30 mm

Off course the Leapers is much more cheaper than the hawke. I’m wondering how far I can go on pest control with 16 zoom!

What you airgun masters think? 😛

I’m sure you’re like me and on a limited budget but don’t buy two scopes; the one you do and the one you wish you had.

Size of target will determine magnification required. If you’re shooting something the size of dinner plates you should have no problems. But shooting a 1” diameter target might prove difficult. My Hawke Sidewinder with a x14 power at 14 is just enough to hold sub 1” groups at 50 yards. On the other hand my Hawke sidewinder with x20 at 20 can distinguish 1” at 100 yards with no problem.

IMO I believe the Hawke 3×9 will be disappointing for the accuracy that you’re wanting at 50+ yards considering the capability of the gun. The glass will more clear than the other two at max magnification however.

The Leapers should just about get it done out to 50 yards. 150 yards will be a bit of a stretch. Again, depending on your target size. The reticle has a larger mil dot array and may block out some of the target.

The Tasco will make the stretch to the distance you’re wanting even out to the 150 yards but I’m afraid the clarity will suffer on high power. I have no experience with the Tasco but I’ll bet the clarity will start to suffer beyond x20 and maybe a tad less than that. The Varmit reticle has no point of reference (i.e. mil dots) to determine holdover.
Here is a link concerning the 30/30 reticle.

I found a couple of refurbished scopes on the Pyramyd Air gun site. I don’t know if they ship to Brazil or not.

This would be a better choice and is the same one that I described above.

This one is a bit big and heavy but will give you reasonable clarity out to 150 yards.

This one is only a x12 power so you’ll be somewhat limited to 50 yards on 1” groups but is a nice scope. Side wheel focus, and not too heavy.

I’d also suggest a 1 piece mount. Here is a link depending on what size scope tube you decide on.

Hope this helps. Be sure to post some pics when you get it set up.

sweet stuff calil

hope it works out for you in the end, im hoping i get info on shipping here in the next 5 days and my extras list so i can add a few odds and aends in the shipment to avoid shipping. like silicone grease.

can you beleive the dive shop here locally wants almost 7 dollars for a .4 oz container of 100% food grade silicone. .4 oz, thats the same size as a small permatex dialectric grease tube. absolutely rediculous price.

mike said a few bucks, we shall see what a few bucks is to some people soon lol

Thanks for remind me that 🙂

I think I have scope mounts for weaver here 🙂

I’ll feed this thread very soon and make a good review for all the combo!

just remeber its a weaver mount not a picitanny. so beware. a few people have gotten picitanny 1 piece mounts that have multiple attachment points and they dont fit as the 1913 rail is a standardised unit where as weaver can be different between manufacturers.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Picatinny_rail

not all rails are created equal

I aprecciate all the help guys!

I think I’m going to get this Shilba. The 24x zoom seems to be the right for what i want!

The guys who has it really enjoy. Looks very nice!

just remember, the rail on the p12 isnt picitanny its weaver, so keep that in mind cause some picitanny mounts dont fit and need modification made to the rail

The Shilba Target pro 30 6-24×50 looks like a good deal and they are somewhat local. Let us know how it works out.

look at it this way calil, if you want to go beyond 9x power you really NEED that 30mm scope tube versus 1″ tube or 25mm. it allows more light transferrence allowing for more clarity at higher magnifications
