Q:

Scope for the P12

Hello guys!

So I finally ordered a P12 .22!

Probably arrives next week. But now I need a scope for it. I’ll try to use it in the 50-120 y range

I have 3 options for now:

Hawke 3x9x40
Leapers 3-12×44 36 colours
Tasco target varmint 6-24×42

What are your opinion on those please?

Regards, Calil :fishinghole:

I’m sure you’re like me and on a limited budget but don’t buy two scopes; the one you do and the one you wish you had.

Size of target will determine magnification required. If you’re shooting something the size of dinner plates you should have no problems. But shooting a 1” diameter target might prove difficult. My Hawke Sidewinder with a x14 power at 14 is just enough to hold sub 1” groups at 50 yards. On the other hand my Hawke sidewinder with x20 at 20 can distinguish 1” at 100 yards with no problem.

IMO I believe the Hawke 3×9 will be disappointing for the accuracy that you’re wanting at 50+ yards considering the capability of the gun. The glass will more clear than the other two at max magnification however.

The Leapers should just about get it done out to 50 yards. 150 yards will be a bit of a stretch. Again, depending on your target size. The reticle has a larger mil dot array and may block out some of the target.

The Tasco will make the stretch to the distance you’re wanting even out to the 150 yards but I’m afraid the clarity will suffer on high power. I have no experience with the Tasco but I’ll bet the clarity will start to suffer beyond x20 and maybe a tad less than that. The Varmit reticle has no point of reference (i.e. mil dots) to determine holdover.
Here is a link concerning the 30/30 reticle.

I found a couple of refurbished scopes on the Pyramyd Air gun site. I don’t know if they ship to Brazil or not.

This would be a better choice and is the same one that I described above.

This one is a bit big and heavy but will give you reasonable clarity out to 150 yards.

This one is only a x12 power so you’ll be somewhat limited to 50 yards on 1” groups but is a nice scope. Side wheel focus, and not too heavy.

I’d also suggest a 1 piece mount. Here is a link depending on what size scope tube you decide on.

Hope this helps. Be sure to post some pics when you get it set up.

My next scope is gonna be a sightron 6-20….. they are relatively light and decent glass. i run the hawke 6.5/20’s and they are like 10-12 onces heavier than a sigtron

Thank you for your complete feedback! 🙂

I too think 12x is not enough for what I want to push this P12 for. About the colours on the reticle, honestly the reticle don’t even need to be iluminated to me. But it’s the option I have for now. Here we have very few options available. And guess? A 90 dollars scope will be sell here for almost 500 dollars.

So I’m thinking about getting the Tasco 6-24×42 with Mildot.

Another option that just poped up is the Shilba Target pro 30 6-24×50 with lateral paralax (Shilba is made in Argentina)

to be honest with you, ive seen through a hawke 6-24 and own a 3-12×44 36 color right now that is set to go on my p12 as is on a millet 1 piece 1931 picitanny mount.

now for the bad part. i think 12x is too little power for going past 100 yards for pinpoint precision. NOW, a better option is a leapers accushot 6-24×56 its got a 30mm tube and costs about the same as the tasco and you will ultimately get a better scope for your money. OR look into AEON scopes in the new trajectory reticle. they are a true christmas tree scope with mil and half mil marks.

i believe the new leapers scopes will be available with the intigrated anti cant bubble in the tube for just a little more and is the multi colored reticle as well.

just my 2 cents on those colors, most are useless, been messing with it during dawn and dusk time and i find the red and the green are the best colors EXCEPT the light blue dialed WAY DOWN on intensity works the absolute best in low light both dawn and dusk.

on the p12 a one piece may not be the best option but shawn from the yellow sent me this one for free because a few screws for the ring caps were buggered up he said “they are stripped” but after using the cap screws from my leaper rings they grab just fine. i do suggest the millet mount though. its slightly shimmed as its meant to be fitted to a AR-15 or M16 or equivelant so its designed for a high rise rifle mounting system and lends itself perfectly to the style of the p12.

hers a link to the actual manufacturer of them….. i have the double strap version and i must say it looks mean, if you want i can take a picture of the scope in the mount, but sadly still waiting for the rifle so i cant show you how it looks 🙁

Anyone? :biggrinn:
