We have some developing particle beam weapons that can kill instantly from a mile away with a head shot at the speed of light but they will never enter sport hunting even if/when the general public can have access to them. They eliminate the sport and its not happening in our lifetimes here. If anything there has been a tendency in recent years back towards more primitive weapons. 😉

I wouldn´t like to be hunted down by a pack of Coyotes any more than have my lungs busted with an AG. Don´t get me wrong – i´m all Pro Hunting and i know very well its positive effect on Wildlife. But to me it´s vital that the kill/dispatch of any animal is done in a way that causes the least possible suffering for the animal in question.
Thus i need a gun/spear/bow & arrow or a God damn Tomahawk that´s adequate for the task at hand and if a Bow & arrow is needed then i don´t go on with a Pub Dart.
Big Game to me equals a powerful PB – not an AG. Period.

I actually love these debates but we are probably in the wrong thread. Basically, the guidelines and ethics the US has adopted in most states is that hunting is a vital wildlife management tool. Hunters’ dollars support wildlife habitat projects in every state in the USA. Hunting improves the health of natural wildlife populations and contributes to the conservation of our natural resources. A well-placed shot by a skilled marksman is a more humane cause of death than natural causes experienced by wildlife. This last sentence is the key. If the weapon (it can be anything from a PB to a spear) cannot dispatch the animal more humanely than the natural causes ( a pack of coyotes chasing down a deer for example) that occur in the wild then it does not become law. 😉

Personally i think that article about the Buffalo Hunt just proves my point. Shoot an Animal and let it take 20-30 minutes (that Guy referred that as “usually”) for it to die – or in this particular instance “only” 15 minutes – is nothing short of fucking torture and as far away from a “humane” kill as it can be.
If you hunt for big game take a good damn weapon that´s upto it and makes a clean, swift kill. That MF “Hunter” should try what it feels like to be shot with a .30 cal AG thru both of his lungs. There could be a thought or two going thru his head while waiting those 15 agonizing minutes for a relief.
Not impressed one bit and again – proves my earlier point to a Tee. :angrymob:

Never read the story about the Bear though. But i do know – from own experience – that Bears are quite tough buggers to kill and i´d never attempt to even try that with an AG , regardless the caliber.

Venerable Uncle Hoot: ,

sometimes you US boys forget how lucky you are concerning weapons in general.

Did you know that in some European countries like Germany or Italy for example, a part the fact that hunting with airguns is not allowed, all freely available airguns are limited to max 5.5 ft/lbs?

For more power than that you need the same paperwork for an airgun as for a .44 Magnum PB.

Ridiculous? Yes to say the least.

In Italy for example, homeland of the biggest historic gangsters, each freely available airgun at 18+ years with max 5.5 ft/lbs is classified in detail. The spring of each springer is classified with number of coils and thickness of the spring, if you get caught with the wrong spring you are sentenced for illegal weapon possession and you will sit for years behind bars.

Unbelievable? No unfortunately it’s pure reality.

Dear US friends (actually all friends otherwise Sir Ville will complain), enjoy your freedom as long and as much as you can!

ATB

In the US all North American game have been taken with airguns including a grizzly bears. My state (Missouri) allows all small game, deer, and hogs. They are pretty tough. There is really no power limitation at this point. The reason is usually more of a liberal mentality run amuck.

If you go for a .177 12fpe is a very nice power level, it’s enough for small pests and provides a nice flat trajectory while still being air efficient. If it’s power you want you should look for bigger calibers, .22 is very versatile for both plinking and hunting and for bigger oomph there are always the bigbores. .357 is starting to become very popular nowadays with Korean manufacturers and Calibrgun providing repeaters even in bullpup form and JSB making diabolos for it. I like quiet guns that make good smack when the pellet hits the target :biggrinn:

I have to agree – to a point. For me an AG over .25 cal is too much and the same time all too little. AG hunting is prohibited in Sweden, except for Pesting small sized Vermin , so if i need more than a .25 cal has on offer i just grab a PB in proper caliber for the job at hand.

In Finland you can’t even shoot pests with airguns. I believe it has to do with the climate, pests here develop thicker fur or feathers making airguns unable to penetrate. You need the smack of the powder burner to make clean kills. Even my 180 fpe Evanix is not enough while my rimmie makes clean kills at 80 fpe, according to law that is. For dwarfs you really need a night vision, those buggers are seldom out there in the daylight unlike queers and liberals.

The line is drawn to 10″ inseam so a .25 cal is usually enough for the task. Any bigger than 10″ and it´s considered a full grown Goblin and thus a more powerful weapon is mandatory. You guys sure have weird laws over there … 😯

You guys can shoot dwarfs and midgets???? Now that’s keen. Those little rascals can really move those 12″ inseams when a bit of lead cracks over their heads!

We can’t shoot them here, same with queers and Liberals…they are protected by law. Shame… :angrymob: :hoot:

Now you´re just being cranky again. Tickbites. Lemon Fever. Nuclear Holocaust. HM the Queen.President Putin. Liberal world dominance. Cheer up, Mountain Man !

That sucks!!! I don’t get it…I just don’t get it. Over a billion AK’s around the world, and more than a few in the UK, and they are sweating pellet rifles????

Damn Liberals! (no offense intended to you Liberal Cocksuckers…I just happen to disagree with your agenda)

Kindest regards,
