Shroud Cover Instructions

First batch of shroud covers should be arriving to a few members today. Although the mod is easy to install, I just wanted to go over a few things.

1. Grab some painter’s blue tape. I find that this works better than electrical tape and leaves hardly any sticky residue when you take it off.

2. Removed the OEM shroud, this is also a good opportunity to give it a good wipe down.

3. Place one layer of blue tape on the front and rear of the OEM shroud. Make sure the tape is laying flat and no bubbles.

4. You do not need to overlap the tape, it is actually better not to. Also, blue tape is easy to tear off but I suggest using a scissor to get a clean cut. By tearing it, you might leave points where the shroud cover can peel back the tape.

5. After taping, pickup the shroud cover and test to see if it fits. You should not need to force it in there. It should go in with little effort yet you can feel it snugged.

6. Screw the OEM shroud back on

7. Before you slide the shroud cover on, make sure there are no debris or dirt inside the cover. This goes for every time you put the cover on as well.

8. Align the cutout so that it is facing the air tube.

9. Slowly push the cover on and keep an eye on the tape and make sure it doesn’t get peeled back. After many use it’ll start peeling so replace with new tape.

10. The cover will end where the OEM shroud ends.

11. You should still be able to see the gap between the air tube and cover.

12. That’s it, happy shooting!

Let the testing begin……….. 😀 . I plan on putting 2000 pellets through it in my 2 week test.

That’s correct Awny, I just put the two piece of tape on the OEM shroud. by cutting the slot out in the bottom of the mod piece, it allows the tube to stretch a little and not rubbing the OEM shroud. However, caution should always be taken before putting on the mod piece. I always give it a quick blow (that doesn’t sound right) before putting it on. Also with the cut out you could put a small cloth or napkin in there and use your fingers to slide back and forth to clean it if needed. GKU and I have been doing this for a while and no scratches so far from the mod. I do have scratches from previous uses without the mod.

The overall length is 33 inches so the gun is still short and easy to carry around. I don’t plan to shoot without it ever even if I am in the woods. Just because it is so much better on my ears.

Awny, I think your package should arrive by tomorrow and Zonk probably Tuesday 🙂

So you no longer wrap the entire OEM shroud with the paint tape? No fear of scratching?

Awny

Oh and I should say that accidental light scratches does not bother me on my “working guns”. But that does not mean I am OK of causing some unnecessarily.

The cricket is becoming a working gun for me because its so good and very practical. And yes this means I will use the wood stock in field hunting without concern of the sure to happen dents and scratches (heck I can buy another stock and keep it for the pictures if I care enough). I will treat finish scratches (wood or metal) if needed for protection. It is such a liberating feeling not to worry about minor scratches on a gun that use often.

PVC is harder than average plastic but in any case the concern is not as much about scratching the metal but scratching the finish of the metal. I think it is possible to plastic to scratch or even wear the gun finish.

BTW, even with respect to harder material like the metal itself, it is possible for it to get scratched by softer material indirectly. The main cause is possible residuals or impurities on either surfaces that are of higher hardness that may itself cause the scratching. There is another factor which is high temperature that can be caused by friction between two materials (this is more relevant on the material that is less temperature resistant such as plastic or metal finish but not the metal itself).
