Q:

Shroud I machined

I had a shroud/baffle idea I wanted to try and I received the 6061 from McMaster yesterday; here’s what I came up with. The inside of the tubing & baffles are machined for an interference fit, pressed together and held with retaining compound. The “crown” area is machined into the back side of the fat baffle, and the other end is machined for a perfect slip fit into my gun. The blue piece is just a pipe I turned down the O.D. and squared up the end real quick to use as a tool to press the baffles in place to different depths.

If I’m happy with how it works, I’ll probably paint it with some Aluma-Hyde after this weekend. I haven’t even had a chance to try it yet. I’ll get some pictues on the gun later, it only extends out from the frame 10″.

As far as making and selling… as far as I know you can make and sell anything you wish on here except a knockoff of a wokbutt.. he has the sole propitiatorship on them dudes..

Nope those are for the forklift and my bullet heater in the winter; could be an interesting experiment though… 😆

As you can tell I don’t want to screw anyone over and with something original like the Wokbutt, or Blodnob valve I wouldn’t even consider it.

Thanks for the info.

WOW 😮

Looks very cool 8)

Does this apply for people like GTBJ and Silent Hunter too? I don’t want to start selling parts here under the table if those guys are paying for advertisement. Tony & I even live in the same town so I don’t want to come on here stealing business. I didn’t see anything in the rules but I know on some other sites I belong to you are only allowed to sell the occasional used item, not new stuff you make that directly competes with what other paying vendors sell.

Regardless, I need to try it out first. It might be a piece of shit lol. 😕

There are no paid vendors here so please feel free to offer what you would like to for sale. The TAG is pretty well self-adjusted; if something is great it will sell a lot and receive much praise.

Ive seen baffles made that way before, there is a post about it somewhere.

Ive never seen them bonded in place though, but I can see how it increases volume quite nicely.

I can already tell, thats going to be pretty quiet for ya.

Found the link.

Not exactly as I remembered, but similar to what you made.

Thanks RIff, Shadoh did a really nice job. It’s cool to see the different ideas people come up with.

It looks great and those baffles should work out well. The fluting on the thin wall tubing might be a concern though. Weve already seen one split apart violently, luckily with no injuries.

Thanks. I saw the post about the split shroud and if I remember correctly that tubing was pretty thin. I machined the tubing to have a wall thickness of .094″ and the flutes are only .030″ deep so I still have 1/16″ wall left.

Sexy.

Thanks, I hope it works as I haven’t seen anyone try baffles like this. I thought it was a little too plain so I cut 6 flutes and turned some bands into it. Should look mean after I blast a frost finish onto it and paint it to match the gun.

Sexy.
