Q:

Shroud is on it’s way, so……..

while I’m waiting, should I vent the front barrel bushing? Would it help with noise suppression? it’s a TSS with 12″ barrel, shroud is a GTBJay. Thanks.

synopsys, not the way I build them, you have to remember that mine run all the way to the bushing and are packed full of the good stuff, so it makes more sence to vent the bushing w/ a 12 incher than a 24 to me 😉

Only if you NEVER put the 24″ back in… 😆 The venting will still operate and help dissipate the pressure in the shroud and frame with the short barrel.

If you were to shoot and measure the air puff from below the frame, there maybe more puff with the longer barrels.

I would vent the first bushing only to avoid possibly introducing contaminated air (lead dust and pellet lube) into the area where the hammer slides… 😉

Gtbj, I was thinking of a TalonSS with a shroud.

A 12″ barrel allows more open volume in the frame and shroud system. An 18″ & 24″ barrel in the same system reduces the (frame shroud) volume by the volume of the barrel’s extra length.

So the effectiveness of venting the frame & bushings would be less noticeable with a 12″ barrel compared to a 24″ in the system. 😉

Anytime a product is actually WAY BETTER than was expected, I think it deserves to be made known.. 😀 😀 If it’s a BAD product you can bet EVERYONE will bad mouth it..even by those that don’t even own one (of whatever it is)..Good products deserve proper recognition. 😆 😆

synopsys, I believe you backwards 😉 …. with a 12 incher your first chamber is only an inch long (not much volume to the bushing) with a 24 incher the chamber is 13 inches long (a shit load of volume) venting the bushing gives you an extra 4 inches of space to the back bushing which defiantly helps on an SS set up, not so much with a 24 inch set up, but it dose still help a bit. the bigest problem with a vented bushing is lead dust in that chamber as well as some getting past the back bushing and in to the preset wheel as well as the trigger area.

I my self am not a fan of venting the frame.

This was on the .22 18″ Bbl. The .18″ will extend apx. 1/2″ past the factory frame of a SS.

well savage, i did not do the mods until i had shot the gun like 1000 times so i had the new well on the way wore off.

so i could stand to have the gun tore down for a couple of days. so when i had the gun apart too clean, barrel out and all, i vented the rear bushing and vented the frame while i was in there.

It was not a big deal because i already had the gun apart, so why not ,

I drilled the holes the size of the indention that runs down the bottom rib under the barrel.

6 or 7 holes starting under the forearm so you could not see the holes with the fore arm on the gun. to the back bushing.

All i can say is , after i built the shroud , the gun was amazing, so quite you felt like you could shoot yourself in the hand with the thing and it wouldn’t hurt.
And i shot it like this for a while before i did the bushing vent and frame vent.

When i did the venting i would say that the air sound coming out of the muzzle was maybe 30% to 40% less than just the shroud alone.

You can hear some of the air coming out from under the forearm, so when you are shooting the gun you can hear the muzzle air and the air form under the forearm. it is very slight but you can hear it.

But out in front of the muzzle is where it makes the biggest difference, if you stand down range and have some one shoot , its like almost 50% less Puff , (air noise) than with out the venting done.

Its not a big deal to do it , if your not good with a drill , then you might need a drill press, but i free handed the drilling, but i work with drills most every day.

My condor sounds like a daisey red ryder, or a sheridan, pumped one time. and its shooting 950fps. Turned down to 950 that is.

Joe, you probably would benifit most from the vented bushing if your shroud is a basic one..
