Stock Talon SS velocities with 13 ci regulated tank
Hello all,
Just wanted to post some velocities using a regulated 13 cubic inch tank from Expert HPA. The gun is a stock Talon SS with a 12″ .177 barrel. The top hat on the Co2 adapter is set at .045. The PW is at 4. The regulated tank is set at about 1500 psi. Starting pressure was 3100 psi down to 1600 psi. I got 65 shots from a 13ci tank 😀 . I am amazed with these rifles. Here are the numbers using 10.5 grain cp heavies. The pellets were not sorted and my alignment with the chrony was not very consistant but the numbers look good. The energy is about like an R9 but this gun is much more compact and lighter. The regulated tank with Co2 adapter is about 7 ounces lighter than a standard talon tank. I am going to switch to my 12″ .22 barrel and try a string with it. I will post the results as time permits.

Don’t hold your breath. That’s not the way regulators work. You’ll get constant output pressure as long as the input (tank) pressure is above the output pressure (usually by a hundred psi or so). Meaning you’re going to drop out of regulation long before 1800.
Plenty of shots is a subjective measure, of course, but as a guees I’d say two dozen?

So the ‘1500 to 1600’ estimate is probably very close I’m thinking.

Yea Doug I was looking for the most accurate velocity…I had seen 4 and 5 shot groups do one holers @ 65 yds but before and after were just all over the place…Well I am pretty sure I found it today and I ordered a tank today that is regulated to a 2,000psi output…I am hoping that will give me accuracy from 3,000 psi fill to a low pressure level of about 18-1900psi with plenty shots….
I would have to guess, of course. I was expecting to get fairly close to 950 with 16 grain JSBs in 24 inchers but didn’t get that far in testing.

Here is some info from a heavy hammered Condor but it gives you a good idea….Looks like it would take between 15 and 1600psi
There is me thinking that so long as you empty the air out of the regulated area all would be the same so long as barrel length and pellet size is the same.
Not if everything else is the same. No.
I’d like to know the answer to that last question also. Mind you my pellet is 21.4 but doubt that would make much difference.
Hey Doug What kind of output pressure do you think you’d need to get the 21.1Gr. .22Cal. Beeman Kodiaks close to 950 from a 24” barreled condor?

12 fpe is fine for some stuff, but I was looking for 20 (where I normally shoot HPA). After some tinkering and discussion I ordered a 1400 psi tank. It did just great, I had to dial the (now fixed) spring preload up to 6 to get to 750 fps (20 fpe), but it did fine….sorta. My new regulator has a case of the slow creeps. I have a gauge on the output and it climbs 100 psi in less than two minutes. Give it a while and there’ll be 3000 psi waiting for the first shot…..not good. I gotta get that part fixed before I go on.
Otherwise, the idea seems sound enough. True regulated performance (lots of shots at the same speed) on the cheap.

Talon4me Great # and shot count on that small tank, That could make a great rat gun too.
I am planning to shoot a string with my 12″ .22 barrel and my 24″ .177 barrel with this tank setup this coming weekend. I will post my results here. I might even try my 14″ .25 barrel just to satisfy my curiosity….
I could not hope for anything better with the above string. I can pack an extra tank with me and have 130 shots to play with. The tank is only 10 5/8″ long (without Co2 adapter). Mat at expert hpa is great to deal with and these tanks are only $75 with the regulator installed. I just added a shim to the spring pack until I got it to about 1500 psi output.

The lowest fps I read was 740 and the highest was 757. looks like you were able to get MORE shots off before the poi would shift.
