Tactical Lelya project – FINISHED :-)
I am now happy with my R3 stock, but still think the Lelya stock is awful, it really makes your fingers ache.
So what to do, I considered another wood one but as the gun looks like a small tactical weapon it should be treated as such.
The plan is to build an Aluminium chassis and hang off it a trigger gaurd, and a couple of Weaver rails, these will hold a pistol grip and a folding foregrip which can be used vertical or horizontal, also any excess can hold a torch or laser etc. 😎 😎 😎
As its my first real “pimp” of a gun I intend to document on here as I go so you guys can see the progress and comment as needs be.
Did some searching and found the best source of suitable parts to be FAB Defense from Israel, available in England from Airsoft suppliers – now they are a strange bunch, but thats another story.
So got as many dimensions as I could and printed out some paper mock up’s to check, after trying several options I settled on a pistol grip, a fore grip and a buttstock, total cost £102, a couple of rails and some Aluminium and the total materials comes to around £130.
The buttstock with some cutting should be able to retain its cheek riser so removing the freezer burn I so hate 😀
As the pistol and fore grips are on Weaver they could be quick release type and the buttstock could be fashioned to be quick release so this could be a really cool, really small take down if wanted, maybe MKII 💡

I am unfortunately one of the masses here in England, to go to FAC here is one hell of a difficult, long winded task, I think they do that to discourage the likes of me – and it works
So all my guns are sub 12ft/lb, I havnt messed with my Lelya internals yet (spent some time de-tuning the Matador and that needs several modifications to be consistant) I will be stripping it soon and playing with the regulator, port & hammer/spring, although it is very accurate I think it can be more efficient of air
As for sound the funny thing with bullpups is the percievable sound to the user, as you have your ear on the action, right next to the hammer they sound louder than normal guns, as for muzzle report I cannot say as I have nothing but “MKI ear” to measure it
I am considering making a small plenum type stripper/silencer for the Lelya but it was more to cover the end of the existing shroud where the paint has worn off
The leather cover on my Matador helps to deaden the sound on that but I have considered some acoustic material in the void where the hammer sits to dull the hammer blow – thats a project right there, I like projects 😛 😛
I can’t make out the caliber. Are you a .22 FAC guy, or a 12 fpe .117 guy?

Beyond cosmetic purposes, what purpose would it serve?

its a good question, and I think it always pays to question convention
not to teach a granny to suck eggs but…….I suppose a guard is to protect the trigger from being knocked with the gun loaded if you are manouvering or repositioning, also to generally protect it from knocks as its quite fragile
I did originally plan on the front foregrip being the trigger gaurd but I have tried shooting with the grip up and down – standers are definately more comfortable with it up, whereas all other positions it feels more comfortable down
it is very easy to fold, it locks in the down position and you simply press a button on the side to fold it up
because of that I have made a trigger gaurd so when the foregrip is down there is still some protection
it just needs some fettling but I ran out of time today (Rugby started on TV 😀 ) I will post some pics tomorrow
its the first gun I have pimped and I have really enjoyed it – looking for my next project already – think I will try building a bullpup, need to get a cheap action 😛

Far less chop on the stock than I envisioned. It is looking great! Will you be using the cheek rest or will that be in the way of loading?
