Q:

Talon accuracy problem … Help :(

I’ve just taken my Talon out for a shoot with my new chrony

This was 12 shots from 30m, and it was a bit windy. But that shouldn’t have any effect when i’m only shooting 30m?

I had higher expectations for that choked LW barrel .. Any suggestions on why my gun is shooting lousy? Pellets was 18 grain JSB exacts.

The first pellet i fired from a 200 bar fill went 880 FPS, then the next one went 870FPS ( ? ) and then it kinda settled at 870-860. The 15 shot i fired rated 851 FPS.

I was shooting with my harris prone bipod mounted, and i may have pulled 2 or 3 shots, but it should have grouped better than that ..

The first shot went a little high (scope not zeroed properly), then the 2nd shot was a bit to the left from the 1st, and the 3rd was a bit to the left from the 2nd .. Sit it started out making a string to the left .. the 4th shot was right in the same hole as the 3rd though, and then it just shot around the 3rd and 4th shot, with one low. 😕

Can it have something to do with my scope mounts being temporarily very low, so i have to press my cheek against the Air tank or something ..

Help .. I want my talon to shot well! 😥

Cheers Mam. 😀

I don’t know if they will sell the HPA system without the bottle. They
use the bottle to test the system as they are tweeking it so that
may be why you have to buy the bottle too…I never asked…If he
would, it would surely make it cheaper…
Talk to Van or Martin…

I assume that the Co2 adapter supplied by Airhog with their reg is not the same AF one supplied by JDS?

Also, do you happen to know if the Airhog setup will thread ok into the JDS 53cu bottle:

http://jdsairman.com/Tanks.html

Airhog reworks the AF co2 adapter and it is part of the setup….
JDSairman only sells the bottle and regulator….I should
have metioned that earlier….Airhog in 53cu bottle? I am not sure
as I tried buying a Carbon Fiber tankoff of ebay and the opening was
too big for the reg I had…Looking at the 2 regulators I would say that
the Airhog and JDSairman would be interchangable but I can’t say
for sure.

Any idea how much Airhog charge for the setup minus a bottle?

You are right about the Airhog shooting harder and faster.
The bottle size is personal preference but if it is too short, it
will make shouldering the rifle uncomfortable…
Yes you can fill anything from a pump if you have the right adapter
on the end of your pump hose…You can NOT fill the Airhog to
full capacity with a pump but you can fill to somewhere around
210-220 bar which is enough for quite a few shots…
If you are looking for big air and consistancey, go with the Airhog..
Might cost more at first but it will pay off in the long run…
I’ve spent enough tinkering with the JDS to buy another Airhog..lol
No problem with the questions…

Which would you say is the better regulator, the JDS or the Airhog? Also, if I’m reading right, it looks like the JDS restricts FPS to the high 700s/low 800s?

I’m thinking a 52 cubic inch bottle from JDS and the reg and Co2 adapter from Airhog is the way to go.

I would advise the 68cu inch tank from JDSairman..It is only 3,000psi fill
and a 2,000psi output reg…Should give you similar results to the
strings below….I currently use a PW setting of about 5/5 and the shot
count is pretty good…
String 1 shot with JSB 15.8…3,300 psi fill. PW setting was 10/10
for the first 10 shots. I didn’t like the consistancey so I bumped
it up to 12/12 and finished both strings…

String 2 on the same fill…I got 88 full power shots out of this fill.

This is a target sample at 65 yds.

I need 950fps with 21-grain pellets, so I don’t think a JDS reg is the way to go. Looks like the Airhog reg has more volume than the JDS one, which would explain the higher fps to be had from it.

The 52cu bottle looks like a bigger version of the standard one, which is why I like it. I don’t think I could get along with a big bulb on my rifle.

John at JDS told me it’s possible to fill his system from a Hills pump. Is that also possible with the Airhog system?

Sorry to keep on with the questions, but I don’t want to plump for the wrong choice of hardware. 🙂

It’s still just a work in progress…Haven’t seen any other regulator projects in a while….

Thx Jeff,

Hopefully, we may be able to drop one of these in a standard air tank. Some where, Yellow?, a Swedish guy had one in the works but had pressure drifting problems. Hope he can get it worked out.

😆
What erratic fps??
10 fps spread is good!!!
Will make a gnats whisker difference on POI

First shot was 880 FPS. Next shot was around 870.

Then after those 10-12 shots, the FPS was 860-850. And that was only after 10 shots?

I would think we would have to spend big bucks for a regulated gun if you want 2-4 FPS variation. I read where there was development for a drop in tank regulator. You could try a big regulated tethered tank (Air HOG?) to see if the benifits are worth it. A few forum members were going to try this but did not see any updates.

BTW, Nice shooting Tex!

Mike

yipes..looks like I missed several post.

Great info and interesting….I think you’re gonna like the rifle once you
shoot it a few times….I have mine shooting off a regulator and can
shoot 5 shot one hole groups at 65yds so be patient and have fun,
the rifle is capable…

Regulator? Inform me 8)

And i really hope i will get her to shot .. mine won’t shot any 1 hole groups .. 😥

It is a long story but in short, The regulator system that shoots the
one holers at 65yds is the Airhog system at Airhog.com They have a
4,500psi HPA system with a 2,200psi output regulator that has a
Standard Deviation per shot of about 4.0 FPS. So far it has done
really well with a few minor deviations on a really long string of
shots…I am currently working on a Regulator from JDSairman
trying to get things working right but I keep having problems
with the AirForce co2 adapter….

Very nice. I should have thought about the fact, that you have to fiddle with the airforce guns before they shot well .. Doh.

I should have saved a bit more and bought myself an AA s410 Fac .. 🙁 They shoot like a dream right out of the box. And i’m not really up to all those fiddlements .. I was lured by the extraordinary looks of the Talon, and all the reviews online .. 🙂 My Talon is prob. just going to be a dust catcher.. 😡

Usually when i don’t use it, i take of the air resevoir, and the uncock the gun, so the hammer spring fully extends, so no strain is put on the spring. But is this a bad thing?

I also get to do a lot of uncocking without shooting .. Does this damage the gun?

I know i’m into details now, but i really want her to shoot! 😥 I spent quite a bit of money on her – prob. around 1300 $ with tax, chrony bipod shroud and VERY expensive UPS shipping ..
