Talon SS accuracy problems
I recently puchased a Talon SS .177. Have put approx 1000 rnds through it. Shooting at 25 yrds. Using crossman premiun pointed and crossman premier hollow point pellets. Sometimes it will put 4 or 5 shots almost in the same hole and the next shot will be 1 inch to either side high or low. The shots will stay there for 5 to 10 shots and then move somewhere else for awhile. I have tried 3 different scopes that I know are good to see if that made any difference. It did not. I have tried filling the hpa tank from 2000 to 3000 and all in between. Have also set the power from 2 to 10. Makes no difference. Removed the barrel and found the bushings to be slightly loose so I tightened them. Didnt change anything. Probably will have to send it back to the factory. I am a .22 rimfire benchrest shooter. With .22 ammo becoming harder to find i thought I would try an airgun. I was shooting the Talon from a benchrest so it should have produced some nice groups. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!!

I ordered them for my condor will let you know how they work when I get them. I ordered a couple more tins of extra heavy kodiacs in case.
Thats a good far away shot! A Jack Rabbit? Yeah.. I thought I was happy with CP 14 grainer pellets. They are very nice pellets but then you guys talked me into the heavy Kodiaks and man I still get the same FPS and the accuracy it the same or a bit better.

All I can say is just start with good pellets like Kodiaks or JSBs. Have your tank ready with air up to 2800psi and let her rip. Mine still shoots as beautiful as when it was shipped to me. I had to do some minor adjustments because my air was running low, but as soon as I refilled with air and adjusted it again, it was shooting right on the bullseye.
Just tonight after sighting in the gun again, I shot a rabbit at 80 yards. It jumped up in the air and then just fell back to the ground and died. I was amazed!
Right.. Sounds about right to me. My Talon sure feels nice and easy. I think unlike other rifles the Airforce series are a bit hard to off set in weight unless maybe you over scope one perhaps. “?” Hell man after Tony was done with mine it is almost 47″ in length! I would say it is ballanced enough anyway. Here are two 5 shot groups at 20 yards. Just 20 yards because thats the range for MR. Squirrel.

You can see the bottom group I am moving around right to left more. But on the top group I felt more steady and moved a more up and down motion compared to the bottom. For me,most of the time it is “I”who am moving. The gun seems to shoot better than I. 😳

One very important factor to consider when shooting is to make sure that the rifle is balanced. This means that while the gun’s forestock is not being restrained by you, make sure that it doesn’t sway to or favor one side. The rifle should absolutely be balanced horizontally, and yes of course, vertically, before making a shot. When the gun fires, the movement of the rifle tends to favor whichever side has the most weight or the side the rifle leans towards, whether it be the left or right side. The idea is to neutralize the movement of the rifle upon a shot. When the rifle is perfectly balanced it should only move backwards when you make a shot.
To check if the gun is perfectly balanced, do not grasp the rifle. Open your forestock hand and try your best not to hold the pistol grip. This will enable you to find the natural balance point of your gun. Once you’ve found it, very lightly pull the trigger so as not to disturb its balance. REMEMBER, BALANCE IS KEY.
Yeah.. thanks for the link. Right now I am kind of laying low from Pyramid since I returned them their Gamo Whisper. I just never seem to learn. God a Springer…. “what was I thinking”?! 😛
They also kind of piss me off too in a way with Tom Blowlord who will shun Moderators or silencers of any kind with hot warnings of legal liability among people in the airgun world. He does shed light on a truth but he himself has a permit for that and with all honesty wants to be the only one to have it is the impression I get.
So thats why I bought my Airforce from Tony. Pyramid has their good points. Hell they let me give them their gun back. But I think for my needs they really don’t have anything I want. Accept maybe some pellets or something.

man you guys were right once again. I took 18 grain Beeman Crow magnums first after what you guys said about the Kodiaks. I shot the same distance as I do with my CP’s and man it shoots the same! Very nice. So I ordered 3 tins of 21 grain Kodiak round in .22 cal. I also ordered 3 tins of 30 grain .25 cal so when my Condor lands I will have some decent pellets to play with. I still need to clock all of this. There will be times when I use my CP’s. Those are nice 14 grain pellets. But for Mr. Squirrel the 21 grain Kodiak will be employed! 😛
Has anyone here ever made some pellets out of some different material or darts that would not damage our barrels? I saw a review on a guy using some Teflon pellets that he made. They clocked at 1200 to 1400fps in .25 cal I think. But they didn’t show any grouping and that would be my main thing. What good is power if you can’t place it where you want it?
Don’t just clean the Top Hat, check the screws and tighten accordingly!
Yeah.. but be wise to the soft aluminum. Don’t get rough with it when checking your set screws. And fill your tank to about 2600psi. Try that. You might have a bit too much air if it was on a fresh fill when this started happening.

run a few patches through the barrel just for reassurance, check all 4 of your barrel grub screws to double check they are nice and tight, check the bottle collar in the frame to make sure it’s square and tight.

I am using a stock talon ss right out of the box. I am using this rest:

it is the model 1000. And yes I am using a scope, Barska 6.5x20x50 AO. When I use the rest i put the dot on target and let the gun sit there. The only place I touch the gun is the grip. I will clean the top hat and check for smoothness and burrs. I have ordered a pellet sampler and will try many different pellets. After I have tried some different pellets I will post the results. I also found some Beeman Kodiaks that that other dude was talking about. 21 grainers. Round nose and still heavy. I also see all your 26 grainers.
