Q:

Test #2/ 4400 psi fill with new 4500 psi Bottle

Wind finally quite blowing for a while this morning, and I had some air, sooooo= A test was in order. 😀

This is with teh New 4500 PSI Bottle that DMan got in for us. And a good looking Bottle it too!

I had been shooting it at 3800 psi with good results, but wanted to try somthing different with it. I have kept the .257’s Power Wheel on 7 to 8 for a long time. But just for shit’s and giggles I decided to raise the pressure and see what would happen.

I had alread tried this at 8 on te PW, and anything over 3850 and the shot would drop like a rock. 😯 This was starting out at 1020 fps. @ 3850 psi with the NOE 60 grain 20/1 lead tin/ bullet. Now keep in mind that this was quite an improvement over teh Factory AF Bottle filled to 3000 psi. (although I cheated and filled to 3400 several times) which gave me a top velocity of 1020 at the 3400 fill. 3200 would give me 960 and the factory recomemded 3000 psi would clock in at 930. So what would the 4500 psi bottle and pw adjustment do with my short 21″ bbl?

:8: She really started shooting at 4000 psi with the pw pushed up to 10 and then started to drop fps again if pushed any higher. Time to get radical!!!

I tired the full on adjustment maxed out on the PW at 4500 psi adn Nope, dropped like a rock. 😥

I gave her one last try and moved the fill down to 4400 psi. And WOO-H00!!! 😀 Happy Days!!!

I finally got a killer Bell Curve at this setting. Here are the numbers, But First, with out accuracy, numbers are useless! The 257 Talon/Dor started shooting un-blievably consistenty, as in shooing clover leafs at 80 yards. Time and Again. From just under 1/4″ to just under 3/8″ at the 80 yards. with many of the groups only one slightly larger hole and usually one bullet making one touching hole. (there always has to be one, right!) 👿
So now that it can shoot a Squirells eye out at 80 yards, what were the numbers?

Starting with a 4400 psi fill they were:

1037 @ 44 PSI
1051
1061
1060
1045
1041
1033 Ending at 3800 PSI

Man I was and still am Stoked!!! :8: Only 600 PSI, and shooting just under super sonic. Perfect for my LDC’ed Critter Gitter!!!
Thats 75 psi, or 5.17 Bar per shot at a starting 150 FPE and ending at 142.2 FPE

Hell Yeah!!!

Couldn’t leave me be could you?

Keep pestering me with all your high velocity crap while I am peacefully enjoying the wonderful weather and culture of Asia!

The last couple nights I have been tossing and turning in bed with these reoccurring dreams of a 36 inch Condor SS with one of those 4500 PSI tanks feeding one of Doug’s valves and holding a couple stories over some hapless 12 oz soda can, looking thru a SWFA Sniper scope contorted out of shape with a high ring in back and a low ring in front.

Okay, enough, you get you way Knifemaker.

I bought Jamie’s 4500 PSI tank, next will be a valve from Doug.

When I get back the wife and I are heading for Burns to live, that is 25 miles from my old mountain house and 1100 yard range where I did the Pepsi challenge, I will check at the local welding shop for a 6000 PSI source of N, if not it will be a Shoebox most likely.

I hope your satisfied. 🙄

Sounds awesome knife! keep us informed!!

Caboose, it is the 1-14 TJ’s barrel linner. You would need a 1-10″ for heavier bullets. Such as 110 and higher for instance. Tedd and Doug made it up in 21″ so that it would fit the Nice LDC I already had. But I am now kinda wishhing I had gone with a bit longer. Say a 24″ or so. Would be better on air I think.

But then again, I don’t like fishing poles for rifles. 😆

The spring is one Doug sent me that is only slightlly more powerful than stock. It isn’t the heavy spring he uses in his .257 builds. And is probably why I am having to go to the full power wheel setting.

I cast up apx. 2500 60 Gr. NOE bullets, and more testing is going to happen today. Woo-Hoo!!! :8:

Mike,

That is a great shot string and has accuracy to go with it.

Your certainly entertaining me.

And with oonly a 21″ bbl. Can you believe it RC?

Roach! Good to hear from you again!! How are your travels going?

I’m glad to hear you agree with my (very basic) assessment that the AF rigs, set up right w/these 4500 psi tanks would be able to approach what you’ve done w/the Haley… I can’t wait to see!!

Caboose,

The Haley was running out of steam to stabilize the bullet past 550 yards, I felt very fortunate to get the 615 yard shot on video….because I could not duplicate it again that day. The bullets just kept dancing around the can, but not connecting and 615 and further out. Also with springs taking a set, 3550 PSI was the highest pressure that I could open the valve.

I am certain that Doug’s valve/hammer/heavy spring with one of those 4500 PSI tanks, with a 1-10 twist barrel can push the 100 to 125 grain bullets further than my Haley could.

The rest is up to the shooter.

Knife- you using one of Doug’s springs to go along with that valve? I wonder now, with these new tanks that Dman has so graciously acquired for us, will we be able to go out to 600+ yards eventually? Maybe barrel length and rate of twist… Knife, what rifling you got in that barrel? Roach has the record at 615 yards, but that’s with a loooong barreled Haley, tethered. Sooo… maybe a long barreled tethered AF w/a 4500 psi tank? Hmmm? Damn it knife, just when I thought I had my rifle figured out… I was all set with getting a 26″ 1-14 barrel… But nooooo…. you spark my interest for a 36″ 1-10 barrel… JESUS!!

J/k… I was already thinking about doing that after I got to shooting the 26″ 1-14 barrel for a while. My casting has to get up to snuff before I start to cast those heavies!! Things are looking good Knife! Keep up the awesome work!!

KNIFE …. Were you thinking to take the kings thrown in the pepsi(cola can) challenge?

Mike,

This info may help me Knife, I went up to 3800, and PW 6 or 7, to open valve, 880 fps with the roundball You have a nice shot string there.

I have seen Cedric and RC post some incredable groups at much futher distances. A LOT further.
This Talon/Dor thing is still in it infancy.. But Dayum! What a Start!!! 😯 😀
and you making these bottles avaliable for us has pushed the envelope just that much further!
We owe you a BIG THANK YOU!!! :8:

Take a look at Cedrics Vid’s. He has one that is shooting this well at right at 200 yds! 😯

And to think, I first bought this gun in 2007 as a .20 cal Talon SS putting out around 26 fpe. 😆

Knife

Holy shit batman!!!!

That’s some good shit right there knife !!!!!!

Them bottle are pretty solid looking !!! No fear takin them up to pressure.

Sounds like they are working out!!!!

That shot string if I do say is astonishing !!!!! For cast machine for a cast machine!!!

I mean have you seen better shooting slugs with an air gun knife?
