Q:

Thought it was time for a new topic so here is my project!

Bought a stock from Boyds last year and I kind of got it carved out when it first arrived, but things came up and did some shooting with a couple air Rifles and then I had to work to pay bills how boring is that!! 😯 Anyway got my lathe up and running last fall and now finished my table build for my Mill which just arrived Monday 8/8/2011 and got it set up and made a couple parts I wanted to make for myself! so then decided to start on my Edgun stock! Didn’t do much of any sanding on it yet and need to profile some of the outside of it, not sure yet how I am going to make it look, I like the Edgun stock the way it is but will probably do a few different profiles on it just to make it a bit different 😯 Well here are some pictures of it in the mill, all the inlaying is done that was a bit of a trick! milled out the slots in the forearm going to do a bit of recess on them and cut down the back and grip area and start to get some shape and rounding to some areas! I have done woodworking and do it now for extra money sort of retired but work more not than I ever did 😯 This is my first Rifle stock so taking my time with it so far all the inlaying came out just fine just have to figure out what I am going to do to the rest of it! I think it will look good when the colors start to blend in, I always kind of liked the blue laminate on some of the other guns I have seen so thought I would give it a try on ED!! By the way this is my new mill 😯

Well finished up on the Edgun last night ended up making a new trigger guard out of brushed aluminum, wasn’t sure if I wanted it painted or not so thought I would see how it looked 😯 I think it looks good!! Anyway I am very happy with it, took a while to get the finishing coat on to suit me and get the glossy look down to semi shine, but all turned out well, pictures attached! Also shot it last night and it was one of those nights that I just let the gun do what it does best tiny groups! Believe it or not the target where I shot all of them was the first target I hung up! the sun was in my eyes after that so I quit for a beer and snacks, hung up one more target shot once and quit after looking through the scope. If you can’t read the targets they were 50 yards and I used JSB 18.1 Pellets it shoots 15.9 as well and does well with Kodiaks 21gr also! Tonight same Edgun different stock to make sure everything is good! fitting the gun to the stock which took me a while to get it just right! I don’t see any problems occuring 😯
Center of Red circle is one inch! the but plate I made it is figured Walnut, I ordered a recoil pad in black I think will look good so will end up putting that on when I get it and shape it up to fit!

Thats a good poin tZoc I did end up making a walnut one but now I have a good sample to follow for a rubber recoil pad! I went out and shot tonight, haven’t had the girl out for a while I will have to post the groups, one of the nights I actually stayed on target and let the gun do what it does best! 😯

Wow….

This is almost as exiting as waiting for the EDguns themselves…..

As for rubber butpads: No need because of recoil, but very handy as it prevents gun from slipping on the floor if positioned up against a wall… 😉

Edgun is on it’s last coat of finish so should have some pictures up soon, want to let it set for a few days before putting the Edgun work of art inside the stock, is it perfect Hell no! Does it look nice Hell yes! Pab last time I seen you I think you were showing Hoot your Ass be careful he might take a liken to you!! 😯 😯 😯

Got some time today Monday to work on the Edgun stock, worked on few places that needed sanding and shaped up a bit, and made a walnut but plate! thought about a rubber pad and still might get one later on! I think recoil pads look nice with a basket weave pattern on the back side, don’t really need a recoil pad no recoil but I think they look nice! but I also think my walnut butt will make it look nice, if I get a chance this week I will take a picuture of it before I get a finish coat of clear on it! the laminate which I knew would is soaking up the top coat but it will settle down after the third coat or so, probably end up with several coats before I am satisfied! I want it to be a semi gloss look not very shinny!

Thanks fishin Rod and thanks for your help on my mill questions before I bought it! So far it looks to be a winner for what I bought it for wood delrin, aluminum. and steel, I think it will do them all just fine! I tried some steel the other day and it did fine, just have to take cuts like you shouuld on any mill and not hog it off! I have never been one even on the big mills I ran to take off much material makes for a better cut and much easier on the machine you are working with, just take care of what you have simple!

congrats Eddie! I am glad to see you got your mill, and the stock looks great. I used a boyds stock on my 7mm and love it. Keep the pictures coming.

you are talking about the screw that holds down the long alumimum threaded rod I am guessing! dam that would be frustrating, do like Ed said on that screw not real tight, you are actually pushing down on the threaded rod and it will crush the threads if you get it to tight! If I get some time I thought about just making a small rod made out of aluminum that the screw can push agianst so it would be aluminum on aluminum, better yet would be a half nut but to small for that aplication! Hope things go good for you on your next outing I hate when something like that happens it can ruin a good time! your Edgun will make you smile next time out 😆

Also 910 fps is a good place to be 😯

Eddie, That is going to be beautiful! I really wanted a wood finish
stock, but didn`t want to wait. Also thanks for your help.I chronyed
gun today and it was shooting 18`s @860 so I got it set @910 today
and went out to shoot and POI started dropping not too happy at this point
been pumping, sweating, testing for the last two days haven`t even put
a group together.Turns out I forgot to tighten screw after last adj.
looking forward to seeing your finished stock regards mark

Thanks guys and especially you Pab you Git 😯 good to hear from you we don’t talk enough I have posted a few things and seen some you had posted hope things are going good for you! have to be better than this dam country I am in 😯 We need to clean house in our Gov and start over with people that don’t lie@@ Yes it is my first one taking my time on it, I think it is coming out very well! All the inletting is done I need to do some finishing touches to in either Sunday or Monday and then I can put some finishing coats on it! got the gun itself fitting in the stock great, took me longer than I thought but that is what it takes! I am going to tell you guys one thing, these guys that make stocks I am sure use cnc or tracers but even at that they have to be dedicted to there work and are worth every penny they make! I have watched a couple here on Tag and Yellow forum get started on making them and there time and dedication has got to be the reason they do what they do 😯

You’re killing me. When I had my edgun I was begging folks to build me a gray/black lam stock.

Looking very nice!

Fuck sake!! That’s your first one??!!! 😎

Eddie, that’s a beautiful ting. 😎

Worked on this a good part of today, I need to get out and start mowing Sunday so wanted to at least get a good start on getting it the way I want it! still more work to do but it is starting to shape up very nice I think 😆 here are a couple pictures from today!

Thanks guys for the comments, I am going to try and stay with it as I have time to. still getting used to my new mill to but I have run mills and lathes for 36 years so that is pretty easy for me even on a newer or different machine! I am hoping to get into making some parts after I get caught up with some of my own projects! and Edgun clip is on my list to try and make! 😯
