Q:

Tired of the GAMO gimmick

Why the hell is GAMO getting all the HYPE on Premium hunting channels and magazine adds? Velocity….Velocity……Velocity and that’s it. Sorry for seeming to HATE GAMO but i think i do. I have shot a couple of em and they SUCKED (accuracy wise) and i have also shot that crappy BALLISTIC ALLOY (gold plated crap) ammo they have and it sucked even more. Could not hit anything with them, and they don’t expand. And gamo is not even close to a GREAT AIRGUN.

Gamo advertisers push nothing but VELOCITY, VELOCITY, VELOCITY and say or show NOTHING about accuracy. Velocity is what powder burners give you. If you want all out velocity……GET A POWDER BURNER. I very rarely see anyone and i mean anyone posting about GAMO ACCURACY. So if it does exist…..GAMO OWNERS….please post some REAL groups.

Its amazing to me that even good hunting shows and host (jim scouten) with years of hunting experience seem to forget that velocity is nothing without accuracy. Gamo is their sponsor and that is why they push there product. All the host ever say is….GAMO EXTREME .22……1600 FPS. Then at the end of the commercial he says “the gun weighs 12 lbs and has a 60 ft lb cocking force”. WOW, and that sounds GOOD!

Sorry (not really) for venting but i was enjoying the shooting show i was watching until…they started pushing the GAMO GIMMICK.

Yes, gamo is a crap but not allways, here is a 10 shot group made from a distance of 30 meters avay with a Gamo Cfx cal.5.5 and promagnum pellets.

You mean, like this?

Never owned a GAMO, but I can attest to the inexperienced airgun users declaring the superiority of their GAMO and other 1000+ FPS rifles. Not just children, but even older more gun savvy guys.

I discussed my Condor’s possibilities to a guy with a 1000 FPS Beeman at one time, I still don’t think he got it.

Tofaz….

I agree 100%. For those that are not accustomed to shooting a springer, they might think the Gamo is great… but the fact remains that they are ‘acceptable’ at best.

I did a two part review of the Gamo Shadow vs the RWS 34 some time back. The 34 is the cheapest of the cheap …GOOD… springers available.

The bottom line is that the Gamo is acceptable. It does well. Not great. Performance-wise, the Gamo was ok.

I think the problem that most people have with Gamo is their marketing. Sure, most manufacturers hype their velocity claims a bit, but Gamo takes it to another level; especially the video with the hog. Pure irresponsible bull shit on the part of Gamo there.

I’m not knocking any of you who own Gamo airguns. I’m quite sure Gamo is responsible for luring many people into airguns due to their wide distribution and easy accessibility. What bothers those of us with a bit more experience is that Gamo….and some Gamo users who may not know better… declare that the Gamo rifles are the cats ass.

You can’t TOTALLY blame Gamo, you can’t argue that velocity sells. And Gamo isn’t the only one guilty of that crock of shit. As for the hype, you pays your money and you gets the hype. That said, a Gamo can be accurate, but you’re right, you do need to trash the gold ammo. I just added a Gamo Hunter 440 to my collection, I intend to detune it to the 10-12 fpe range, it’s currently doing almost 15 fpe with .177 Superdomes. There’s a reason I went to PCP’s, I’m not that good with springers, recoil issues. Plus, I’m limited to 10 yards at the moment due to weather issues. All that said, I can do ragged one holers at 10 yards when I concentrate, and I used to be able to keep it under 1/2″ out to 30 yards with my old CFX. If you want to see 10 yard groups, let me know, I’ll post some for you. Not that it means much, IMO, but at least it might prove that the rifle is capable of it. Later.

Yea, I was on youtube looking to see if I can find some shots of real groups, and chrony numbers.

Roger
