ugh- a big project
i was thinking about making some mods to the condor body, and was wondering about a ballpark figure on cost. basically it’d be a new body, w/some changes:
-id really like to use an FX airtube, 145cc, to replace the factory tank
-lower the scope rail a bit, change it from a dovetail to a M1913 rail (weaver, picatinny)
-have a m16 grip mounting area (i have no idea what to call it- the area an m16/ar15 grip mounts to) integral to the body
-a small section of M1913 rail on the underside of the body to mount a good bipod
-integral shroud- like anthony’s shroud, but integral to the body…
-side cocking
is this a crazy idea, and am i just wasting time dreaming up this mucho-expensive sounding dream condor, or is this idea possible? thoughts please!!! and the condor would have to be .25 cal. or does anyone have thoughts on how to make this dream gun come true?

It would be horrible to hear of any allied soldiers shot with an air rifle sent over by one of our guys.

King did check his IP addy and if he posted from quantico he is either the best hacker in the world or a Marine, also for the parts to be sent you would need his unit and ss number for him to get them so without that information it would be a bad idea to send it to someone that just gave a name and location.
I also have to believe that if one of the bad guys needed an air rifle to kill someone they would just buy one off the used forums all ready to go turn key not a custom rifle it draws too much attention.
The Taliban and company are well funded believe it or not and if they really wanted air rifles I’m sure they could get them without our help.
I do understand the better safe than sorry philosophy though lurker.
War is a sorry situation and Buzzcat is correct IMO that we need to be cautious with our freedom to discuss and exchange information that could possibly cause harm to members of our military.

Our BB guns may be puny compared to the weapons our military have the responsibility for but, all the same, in the wrong hands they could be misused. Like Buzzcat said, Afghanistan is a war zone. We have a lot of people over there that we love very dearly and we certainly don’t want to accidentally contribute to their demise. I remember laughing when someone said they could make a bomb out of fertilizer. Little did we know back then. So, have we learned to be a bit more cautious? Buzzcat obviously cares and respects that a little knowledge could be misused if we aren’t careful and constantly alert to the situation at hand.

Nothing we use to like better than watching the Navy and Marines get drunk and start fighting. Especially at the bars down in Charleston. They would get fucked up and shore patrol would clear em out. And we would end up with all thebooze and the Girls!!! Aaah, Air Force—–

Hey there cat I think he’s trying to have someone make the parts for him to assemble in all fairness buddy so I don’t think he’s saying that they have lathes out in the field I think he wants someone to machine the parts he’s looking for so he can put it together.
I have a friend from sniper training over there right now he said that it’s moments of terror and days of sheer boredom I won’t say his name just for security reasons and just good manners and that they are in need of magazines, CDs, first aid supplies like bandaids, triple anitbiotic, stuff like that I send stuff over there every chance I get in care packs. Candy is a big hit but mostly hard candy stuff that won’t melt.
It sounds like Sarge with nothing to do unless they are on a mission which believe it or not are far and few between.
Just trying to fill in some of the blanks on this stuff and how it works from information some of my friends that are over there have told me.
My old unit was in the middle of the desert and had a motor pool with power tools and machines set up for repairs it was like a auto shop in the middle of nowhere lol this is from my dad who was in my unit I was S-2 he was S-4 of a headquarters detachment he deployed to kawait in 1991 and I had ETSed already. My dad was good firends with the W-4 that ran the motor pool so he spent a lot of time down there and they were in vietnam togethter so they had quite a bond.
The whole motor pool was run off a monster generator that was backed into a hole with a 2.5 ton so the sound would go straight up and not out then camoed so not easy to see from the air or elevated postitions.
I thought he was talking about making this thing himself too at first until I went back through his posts to find that he is looking for a machinest to make the items for him and there are probably rear area units with equipment capable of making the stuff but getting that cleared or chances of getting it too one of those units is pretty slim.
If I have any of this wrong caboose just feel free to correct me and I think buzz thought it was constant fighting all the time like they show in the movies, once again I don’t have personal knowledge of the situation there just a few friends 🙁

If you’re actually military and stationed in Afghanistan, then I completely and humbly apologize for my words. Keep your head down and come back safe.
I just found it very odd that a soldier in the middle of the hottest war zone on the planet has the extra free time to machine an airgun from scratch. AFAIK, there are no “permanent” bases in Afg., only fire bases and forward operating bases. Not much more than campgrounds in any case, and not likely to have lathes and other milling equipment laying around for recreational use, let alone the bar stock and other raw material. If I’m wrong about this, please enlighten me.
In any case, if you indeed are US military, then you should know that it’s probably not a good idea for a citizen to blindly offer weapon-making instructions to someone they don’t know who admits that they’re in Afghanistan. If you’re unsure about that, then just ask the NSA. With only 11 posts to your name here, I don’t know who the hell you are. You could be General Petraeus or Osama Bin Laden, or anyone in between.
Maybe my words were unnecessarily rough, but end of day, I think you may appreciate the fact that I don’t favor blindly giving out information that may be ultimately used against you or any other soldier in theatre.

I can’t speak to your situation, but if I was US Mil in Afghanistan, I’d know that internet connectivity is a rationed privilege… you’re e-mailing your family once in a while if you get the chance, and the LAST thing I’d be doing is posting on an airgun forum. Furthermore, I’d like to understand how you have the spare time to mill an airgun from scratch, even if you’re rear-guard/motor pool.
No way that in-country troops are that bored… You can’t possibly have that kind of free time.
Lastly, there’s no profit in advising someone in Afghanistan how to build a gun. If you’re actually a Marine, you’ve got all the guns you need. Go light off a few hundred rounds of .50BMG at something and worry about pellets later on.
Oh, and another thing… go ahead and swear. Nobody cares. 😉

thanks for the kind words stower1! and ive been going nuts trying to decide if this is worth doing or not- i think it is, but its going to be really expensive!! in these shrouds being made for the condors, are they simple LDC’s or do they contain baffles? im trying to shoot for a quiet (neighborhood friendly) rifle. im thinking baffles like real-steel would work, and maybe shorten up the length of a mod. thoughts? anybody have an idea on how much a valve would cost to fit in an FX 145cc tube tank? ive seen the posts about someone doing this type of mod, but no prices… of course, i think he was building for himself. again, thanks for the help!

Your design sounds like more work than it’s worth, but so do most great ideas. 😀 Keep dreamin, i remember sitting on a fishing boat for weeks at a time, bored out of my mind thinking the craziest stuff up, i can’t imagine being stuck over there man. Keep your head down, come back safe. 😀 😀 😀

i think this got a bit outta hand, buzzcat, you pissed me off. but i do understand where youre coming from as far as security. but consider this: airguns, even powerful big bore ones need to be close, as far as modern battlefields are concerned- 200 yards max w/enough FPE to do any damage. body armor, and small targets make that shot even harder. they dont want to get close, they want to stay away, and not get shot. (Marines are the one’s that like to get up close and personal!) so an airgun wouldnt be a good choice. also, i should have worded my post better. i never wanted to machine parts in country, or have parts sent over here- i wouldnt be able to get them home per the USPS rules. and i wouldnt get past customs on my way home. so that’d be a waste. i got pissed more so because all of us over here already have to deal w/people calling us baby killers when we’re home. i didnt expect that kind of reaction from you guys. but no worries- beers on me when i get back! buzzcat, youre invited! now- back to this rifle idea….ILMAO!!!! 😆
