Q:

Using a condor on MEDIUM power; Can it be done?

Hello guys, a good friend of mine recently purchased a .22 cal. condor, and even tho the rifle performs well at high power, filling to 2800psi, PW at 10, shooting barracudas with accuracy for about 25 shots, my friend would like to also use the rifle on medium power for long range plinking, bird hunting, etc. His idea is to shoot CPs (or similar weight pellets), at arround 950fps.
He fills to 2800psi, sets the PW at arround 5 and starts shooting, first 10 shots or so are wonderfull, but then power begins to go up, and accuracy goes out the window, eventually (a few shots later) even with the PW set at zero, all shots are going supersonic! and he cant hit anything.
Is there a way to use a condor for consistently shooting at medium power, like CPs in the 900fps range?

Meh, stock Condors arnt really low power guns. The whole point of the condor is to throw the heaviest pellets as fast as possible. I fill mine to 1900 and shoot it down to 1000 and its still sending .22 kodiaks over 930fps at 1000psi. And thats at power wheel setting 2-0. Maybe get a standard tank?

Youre probably right, the gun does works OK at high power. I guess my buddy fell for the FALSE ADVERTISING airforce, tom gaylord and pyramyd air give of this rifle being an “adjustable power” one, “capable of high power for hunting and low ~ mid power for plinking”.
I used to own a condor myself, but i dont recall making a lot of tests at mid power with it. I traded it for my sumatra before i had a chance.

If you start turning your tophat down the power will start dropping.

or CO2 adapter for plinking.

Besides trying an even lower fill presure (we will try it tomorrow), can you guys think of something else to try?
My buddy is quite frustrated and dissapointed with this gun, and i would really like to help him get it working.
Besides, hes driving me nuts trying to get me to trade him my sumatra for his condor LOL 😀

Thanks for your reply, hammer weight is the standard (factory) weight.
The rifle has not been tunned or modified in any way, except adding some silicon lubricant to the breech orings.

easiest way to get what you are looking for without messing up the TH adjustment for the heavy pellets will be to start with a much lower fill pressure for the CPs. Start at about 2500psi and shoot down until they quit going sonic. At this point, check the remaining pressure in the tank and use this for your fill to pressure when shooting the lighter pellets. You will still get a surprising number of good accurate shots even from 2300psi or so.

thanks for your reply, last weekend we did some experimets with the rifle, and even at 1900PSI, and PW at 0 the velocity for CPs seemed to be excesive, you could hear a supersonic crack and accuracy stinked. You think its worth a shot to try at an even lower fill? im guessing shotcount will be very low.
