Q:

Velocity Change After Barrel Cleaning

Anyone see any noticeable change in velocity after cleaning you barrel? Like 20-25 fps? I’m not say which way though, :fishinghole: , you might call me nuts.

See Cracksmacker Ole Ville’s got it down. He knows how to bait them….

No,no,no – shoot them, pile them up and wait for them Cats to show up. Shoot the Cats, pile them up and wait for the Coyotes and Foxes to show up. Shoot the Yotes and wait for some homeless to show up … and so on.

Just let them pile up the cats will eat them. That’s if you don’t shoot the cats first!

Zonk, I’ve got lots of time in the evenings. With it getting dark around 5:00PM, I’m usually bored to death and trying to find something to do. I guess I could spot light Colared Eurosians in my pine trees, but then I’d have to clean them. 😯

Cracksmacker, with all the shooting you do during the day “during work” where will you find time to polish your barrel? hehe

Gotcha, After I get the felts, I’m going to use a combination of JB and Mothers or JB Brite Bore or what ever its called.
Thanks again eelect.

Crackelsmacker the JB bore paste is a barrel cleaner. Its step one of two. You use the bore Brite to do the polishing. No sense polishing a dirty bore.

you might need this if your rod has a female tip on it. This stuff is from Brownell

I found everything except for this item. My cleaning rod does have a female end. Most of the pellets were on back order 😡

Sir Ville, here is your procedure…kinda broken down in steps as I read it. I’ve got some questions inserted along the way.

The JB Bore Paste isn´t really for polishing barrels even though the container kinda says so. It´s more of an cleaning agent. To do a “real polish” you need something more abrasive (but not too abrasive) like iex Autosol or the stuff Jan used. Essentially same goo …
When i do it i

1.Start with the Autosol and give the barrel a fast workout with 10-15 strokes with the Autosol.
? Autosol sounds like its a solvent but its actually a metal polish. It seems like you’d want to use the JB BP first since you said it’s more of a cleaning agent? Are you using a brush or felts here?

2.Then i put several oiled (Ballistol) patches thru the barrel untill i get rid of the Autosol. Gotcha

3.Then i take JB Paste and do the same thing except that i do 20-30 strokes before i “flush” with Patches drained in Ballistol followed with dry, clean Patches untill they come out clean. Gotcha

4. Then i repeat the second step.
? Re-balistol it and followed with dry patches?

5. After that i use the JB “Nr 2” and do 20-30 strokes with it.
? Is JB NR2 the final polishing compound and is it better than the Autosol

6. Again a couple of Patches drained in Ballistol and then i finish the job with dry patches untill they come out clean. Then i oil the barrel lightly (since hopefully it´s now just bare metal and it needs a thin coat of oil to fight corrosion if left unused for any period of time) and i´m done. Don´t forget to remove the oil before the next shooting though.

Sorry to be a pain it the ass but I see and hear so many different procedures using different products that I’m confused and don’t know where to start.
I’ve got some JB Bore paste and some Mothers Mag Wheel cleaner. I believe the Mothers has more compound in it than the JB. Do you think it would work in place of the Autosol?

Thanks for all the info eelect.

the rest is http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000W75L32/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
you also need this to get the back piece for shooting with it
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AJWR6SI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
you can raise the front at least 8″ if not more

As for pushing felts all the way through I normally try to polish more before choke. What I mean is I would take note where choke is and do 20 strokes and then do 5 all the way through after that.

I used cleaning and polishing felts from Brownell this time around. As per Ville recommendation. They are easier to work with as they pull through easier. The polishing felts are great with the JB bore bright.

Thanks eelect, whats the item # for the Brownell felts , and did you push them all the way through the choke?
