Q:

Velocity Change After Barrel Cleaning

Anyone see any noticeable change in velocity after cleaning you barrel? Like 20-25 fps? I’m not say which way though, :fishinghole: , you might call me nuts.

I used cleaning and polishing felts from Brownell this time around. As per Ville recommendation. They are easier to work with as they pull through easier. The polishing felts are great with the JB bore bright.

Thanks eelect, whats the item # for the Brownell felts , and did you push them all the way through the choke?

All the way, my friend. All the way. Ask your Wife if you don’t believe me.

Hey Eelect, can you post a summarized polishing technique? Mine is shooting good but thought about a mild polishing.

Sweeet Jimmy, 60 yards one hole now that’s one shootin machine!

There are other problems that can cause velocity drops, but it seems that you found your answer.

After shooting about 200 lubed pellets through the Cricket 25cal I thought i’d clean it and see how the patches looked. I first shot five pellets to confirm the speed, right at 930-935. I wet a patch with Balistol and pulled it through with my Bore Saver. Yup dirty but they always are. What I did notice was that it pulled easier and didn’t find near the roughness in the first 8 inches or so and the patch had a few lead flakes but nothing like before. I ran two more wet patches and finished up with three dry. I’m thinking :suprisedn: that the wax might be doing a good job of keeping the lead on the pellet compared to unlubed. I shot 10 pellets through the chrony to re-season it a little and the velocities were 905,924,924,928,930,928,928,935,936. So it does start a little slower and then resumes normal velocity. Told ya so, next time you’ll believe me 😉 PS, Shot a couple of 5 shot, one hole groups today at 60yds today with a shifting breeze. IT’s a shooting sumbitch!!!!!

I occasionally oil my probe with CLP that’s about it. I do check on the o ring ever so often.

Got my boots on its getting deep in here,LOL.
My two cents, After I clean my barrel I put a little, A very little, Dry slide on a patch and run it through the barrel,,, Its a dry film lube.
I put a little silicone grease on a Q tip and dap it on the Oring in the barrel,
Just wondering if anyone else uses the Dri Slide grease, If you get it on your fingers it will stain them, So it got to be good,

I’m waiting with full of excitement, mixed with a smudgeon of disgust ..

I’ll send you some pictures Ville, you’ll find them exciting..
