Q:

virgin glock 17

well wife could prove we have been in CA long enough, so while i was in denmark she went and bought us a glock 17 which is full size 9mm for those not into the glock models i know i wasnt 3 months ago

we chose 9mm for several reasons

1 ammo is pretty cheap, compared to the larger calibers
2 grip is smaller than larger calibers, wife has very small hands and therefor has trouble holding pistols with fat grips
3 we are both inexperienced with handguns, and the 9mm is not as intimidating as the larger more powerfull.

glock was the choise when we asked around…we (I) wanted something reliabel, easy….glock certainly fits the bill

went to the range to rent one….and we liked it….also tried an XD40(i forget the makers namer ), what a pice of crap compared to the glock, might have been just that one, old and worn out rental….but it kept jamming up constantly….and we saw no accuracy with it.

any back to the glock….yesterday was the first time we had it out…i went to wallmart and grabbed a box of all the different ammo they had (blaser, remington, winchester)

and off to the range after she dropped her mom off at the airport….very excited, i loaded the mags with the plastic loader that came with the gun…ohh man when we rented that was not given to us and the 9th and 10th round was a thumb buster to get into the magazine, with the speed loader it was a breese, laid the 2 mags and pistol on the range table and told wife to give it a go

blam 1 shot at 12 feet right in the black….then she was shooting low for the next 3-4 shots and then it failed to eject…cleared the chamber, and sent her on the way….then it jammed, cleared it…2 more shots and it did it again…i wrote it off to that the gun is brand new and needed to settle in, or maybe the cheap ammo. more on that later….

next mag and it was my turn, 10 shots later which was over pretty fast, about 20 seconds keeping in line with the 2 seconds the range requires between shots for the most….2 hit outside in the 8 ring….rest was 9 and 10 ringers….no misfeeds no malfucktions

wifes turn, and it started to fuck up again (or rather she did) one shell failed to eject and turned around and the next cartridge actually got pushed into it….then it would only feed the round half, lige the casing edge got caught on something…..she gave up….i then took the mags she had been using, and filled it and fired 10 rounds….working perfectly, and then the next mag to eliminate that its not the mags fault.

gun is working just fine, its human error at fault here

when i was shooting it it was doing fine, when she was shooting it…not so….i told her to change grip, try to stiffen her arms a little more or a little less trying to see what was causing it….turns out sloppy wrists/arms as soon as she locked her elbows it was fine…not good for accuracy and the carteledge in her arms….but hey she now knew what was going wrong…and got shooting just fine….well except that after i told her not to let go of the trigger all the way she twice double rapid fired, resulting in range master complaining, but it was a fair mistake and he understood…funny enough too booths over theres was some serious rapid firing going on…like 10 shots in 3 secs…which the range master never said anything about….however when i was shooting with 2 second intervals he told me slow it down just a bit….must have been cops or something that was rapid firing…those bastards get away with everything

my self found that when i did what the instructor had told me i would shoot way low….as soon as i loosened up and got comfortable i was shooting right where i was aiming, but our range hour(about 90 minutes) was up. i had bought 300 rounds…there was 75 left when we went home hehe

shooting handguns surely is something totally different, very challinging i think, im used to be very accurate with my airgun rifles….and the find that i have trouble with a simple 9mm at 12-15 feet lol shooting groups of several inches, but man it is fun

vid is heavily edited !

ohh man i love shooting ! gonna be a busy fall.

this little fella is moving in on saturday, yay !!!!

can someone recomend a pair of good shooting glasses for a guy with glasses ? range master was not entirely ok with my regular narrow glasses but said it was for my own safety so he wouldnt keep me from shooting…but then agian a more anal range master might say no alltogether.

ADVANTAGE ARMS CONV TGT17-22 W/CLEANKIT, pretty hard to find, i must have called close to 20 stores….which webpages said they had it in stock but turned out not to be

sportsmandepot ended up having one but wanted 30 bucks more then the cheapest place but he had one in stock….so i took it….its brilliant…i love it…

Which .22 lr kit did you buy?

I think that everybody else is at work and that is why they have not commented on your choices.

Some people do not like Taurus’ quality control. But one of my friends shot and liked the raging bull in .454 casull.

Guns or ammo? That’s a game that many of us have played. Buying now what will not be available in the furure. I can always buy that Marlin 36, lever action .22 later; the guns that they are trying to ban are the high priority for now. Choose wisely as firearms are more difficult and costly to sell than airguns.

freaking suskc sit what it does….im gonna buy all the guns i can until i run out of money….then worry about getting/making ammo

so noone has anything to say about the cz75 comact 9mm or the taurus 44mag 6.5″ ?

.22lr kit arrived today , it took me less than 30 minutes and i was down at the range putting down 10 bucks for an hour of shooting….i really need to find a better place…at least today the air circulation system was working properly

ok .22lr kit, 9mm slide off….22 slide on….9mm mag out…22 mag in….ready to go…they reccoment minimags…and thats what i had a few boxes off…

magazine came with speedloader…nice surprise…
slide is somewhat lighter than the 9mm slide, but ammo is much weaker too so that compensated for each other

magazine clicks nicely into the handle of the glock, a quick pull on the slide and i was ready….

blammo 70 shots later at 21 feet, all in the black , at 33 feet, about 50 in the black 5 outside….this is standing no resting….all the way to the back which i dont know how far is, maybe 75 feet……groups opened up to 6 and 7 ring but i was getting tired too

the light slide actually makes the glock jump quite a bit for a 22, it cycled fine had one misfeed out of 170 shots, and then i had to get back to the house for a counterstrike match(pc game)….i am quite pleased with it i think its a hoot to shoot ….ammo is way cheap…just ordered 2500 minimags…and when they are gone this kit will have payed for it self more than once….

it will shoot the super colibri ammo, but you have to cycle the action your self, how ever the noise is low and can be shoot at home in a garage or something without neighboughs hearing it, the minimags on the other side is quite noisy, i would have been able to shoot it at home in woburn in the concrete basement…but not here with a leaky wooden garage

is there anyway to get a silencer permission in CA ? this kit just screams for a muffler on it….

wife is gonna like this kit….if your in the market for one…remember to get as many mags as you can afford !!!

Excellent observations about criminals and guns, Cyg. THAT’S WHAT’S WRONG WITH MICROSTAMPING!!!

Put a frog in boiling hot water and he will try to jump out. Put him in cool water and he will slowly cook to death. That’s what they are trying to do to us…slowly erode our gun rights. Gun people with an oh well, that’s not so bad of an idea attitude are playing right into their hands. Obama is perfectly willing to comply with the UN and surrender our gun rights to other nation’s desires to disarm us. Shame on him and anyone who helps him.

Have you seen the statue in front of the UN? It’s a revolver with its barrell tied in a knot! That represents your revolver with its barrell tied into a knot.

United we stand, divided we fall.

yup catching up allright ohh well, both wife and i can buy guns now…so the budget will soon be used up

well…we where at the range tonight….karin tried som e fo the different stuff all explained in this thread….and actually considerably tightened up her groups…1 miss feed out of 75 shots because of limb wrist i suppose, heck of a lot better than last time…he groups had gone from full paper size to actually just hitting low with a 4-6″ spread, and her last 10 shots where all in the black but one ….not bad at all

well im in love with the taurus raging bull 6.5″….gonna get me a 44mag as soon as i got this months bills, that makes for 4 months of proof of residency…so shouldnt have any trouble buying what i want….pistol grip is a bit big for wife, but other gribs can be had thats way more shallow, we tried one and it was just fine….she cant hold and cock the gun with one hand…thumb cant reach…but 2 handed no problems…and with different grip we should be good to go….anyone got any troubles with the taurus ?

we looked at the cz75 compact 9mm….that really fit her hands perfectly (also her purse 😉 ) full size version not so good….nice thing about the cz is that its got some weight to it..anyone got anything bad to say about that one ? its a very popular gun in denmark, at least those are the ones the ranges buy so they cant be all that bad

have you guys seens the anti obama flyers at your gunstores….they where passing one out to everyone in the store…about how he is anti guns….i cant find it right now…but i dont like that guy any more…cant vote anyway….but still

micro stamping…criminals have allways gotten the guns they wanted, and modded them like they wanted…denmark has had alot of shootings recently…and denmark has some really tight gun laws….criminals (2nd-3rd generation immegrants vs hells angels) fired with full auto weapons among others…these cannot be bought in denmark at all as they are illigal ! however the criminals still have them….couple of years back hells angels got caught with an RPG, they also had an accident with one blowing up a house…yet these are not available to anyone but military….they had handgrenades too…several unregistered guns….i see that microstamping might help clear up a crime where a dumbass is involved if it was a perfect world….but criminals will imho just get around the rules somehow…only people getting hit are us in CA, because gun makers will just drop the californian market, or triple the price for a CA approved guns

quote Shadoh:

Wouldnt that be the same for any gun recovered that was used in a crime?

My point is I dont see anything really wrong with having your gun stamp the cartridge. My point is that it is pointless and stupid because it wont stop any slimeball gangbanger asshole from doing what he is already doing. They dont care if it stamps the cartridge and if they do they will just alter it so that it doesnt.

Very good point, And in Cali that can be a problem 😯

Well Shadoh, california has a SHARED RESPONSIBILITY law. So if you tell the police your gun was stolen 6 months ago then you better have reported it to the police and have a copy of a police report and be prepared to show them the “D.O.T. legal GUN SAFE” that pistol was locked in when it was stolen 😉

Its a bit extreme, but whats wrong with that stamping? They already can do basically the same thing with just the firing pin impact. The stamping would just make it easier to track down a gun used in a crime. When they do track down the legal owner of the gun he will just tell them his gun was stolen 6 months ago and has no idea who has it now because no crook is gonna buy a gun and register it in his name to begin with. Most of them will just file off the stamping pin anyway.

Its just another cooks idea on how they are gonna stop violent crimes by putting in more laws the criminals could give a crap about anyway.

Something to look into:
You know Cyg, you are playing catch up here in California right now. Let me explain. Janruary 1st, 2009 is when the micro-stamping law is supposed to take effect. That means that you have just three months to purchase handguns that are not required to leave a micro stamp on each and every empty case that weapon spits out. It is expected that some manufacturers will stop shipping their handguns to CA. The one that are left in dealers inventories will double or tripple in price. Those that leave the required stamping will have a price increase that reflects the new requirement.

Anyway that you cut it, you are better off spending your money on guns right now. The reloading gear you can purchase later.

Of course I could be completely wrong about the micro stamping:

I know a gun dealer; I’ll ask him later what the status of this lwa is.

now we are talking reloading….and SteveinLA told me the basics on the phone here the other day….seemes like its a 650-700$ investment…for a press in 2 calibers 9mm and 44mag (including shipping)

I used copper washed in my Glock with no troubles. They are ton cheaper than jacketed.

The ABC’s of reloading is available at Borders Books for about $20 and is a good overview book.

From what I have gleaned so far from some good research into reloading 7.62x54mm ammo for my war stick Mosin Nagant is it is pretty easy to just reload, but harder to load the same round consistently (competition type shooting)…

Casting your own slugs is really cool but remember though that the Glock likes copper jacketed rounds unless you bought the lead capable barrel… If you have the copper jacketed barrel the lead rounds will lead the barrel real quick and throw the accuracy way off and if left and shot over and over you could bulge your barrel…

Sweeny writes a sweet set of books on the Glock handguns, worth a look and possibly a purchase…

Call Dillon at 800-223-4570…ask for Mike Foss. He will answer your questions.

Buy the Hornaday reloading manual, (2 book set), study it.
Buy the Speer reloading manual, (latest edition), study it.
buy the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook third edition…if you are interested in casting/loading lead bullets.

Copper washed bullets have a thin coating of copper on them. Use the same load data as for plain lead bullets.

The jacket on a “jacketed bullet is much thicker and requires less of a powder charge. ALWAYS STICK TO THE PUBLISHED LOAD DATA.

I have a Ultra Vibe, (WOK can’t resist this opportunity for a joke), vibrating case cleaner. It doesn’t have to be the largest capacity…your next one can be the giant capacity!

I like Iosso cae polish. It has jewler’s rouge (sp?) in it.

Have fun!
