Q:

What is it with the UK?

I gather there are no MV limits in the USA. In Japan, where I do most of my shooting and a whole bunch of skirmishing, no limits. Iceland, nada. Most of europe, couldn’t give a toss.

Heeere’s ENGLAND! Skirmishing, 325fps (barely enough to get the bloody ball spinning). Air-rifles, 12ft/lb. Adults treated like effing children. 👿

Sorry, just felt like getting that off my chest.

Hey Tykes, you can trot out all the little stats and factoids you’d like. I’ll be here in my home full of firearms and my constitutionally protected right to own them and as many more as I desire or can afford.

While the school shootings are tragic and needless, our two countries deal with them in different ways. Where your country banned the tool, our country is moving to allow more of the tools in the hands of more of the good guys. Will it stop murder? Aside from a potential deterent effect, no, more guns will probably not stop murder, as a practice, from occuring. But will it let a would-be victim of violent crime have a chance of stopping a slaughter? You bet. It’s proven that more guns equals less crime. Fact, my friend. All those stats you toss around are largely based on murders committed in places where restrictive firearms laws have created victim-rich environments. Inner cities, where liberal lawmakers banned self-defense guns, creating an environment where criminals can opperate, free from the fear of meeting an armed victim. Schools and places of worship, where conceal carry of a firearm is illegal. All the places where I can’t carry are the same places where national tragedies have occurred. When was the last time you heard of a gun show in the United States being shot up? It’s full of guns. If guns were the problem, a gunshow would be rife with carnage. There must be some deterent effect, where criminals know better than to wage an assault on the place. Your little per capita statistic ignors the demographic and population data needed to see where the murders occur, and that more guns, in the hands of law-abiding people, saves lives.
I’ll also point out that there are no hard stats kept here to indicate the number of times per year that a citizen with a gun deters a violent act just due to the presentation of a firearm, with no shots actually fired. How many people were saved in your country last year because the potential victim or a bystander presented a gun? I don’t know how many were saved in my country, because we can’t adequately document that. But I do know it’s a much higher number than in the UK.

I wouldn’t expect you to understand our afinity for guns, having never had the absolute right to own one. All you once had was a priviledge, which was revoked. I have a right, not a priviledge, which can not be revoked, barring some ill act on my part. Nor would I expect you to understand how we pitty the good people in the UK and Australia, and elsewhere who’ve had the ability to protect themselves and their loved ones jerked out from under them. We wish you guys had a constitutional right to protect yourselves, we really do. While we can’t change that, we can push to further protect ourselves through more common sense and less emotion. Gun laws in our country, by and large, are emotionally written and passed. Thankfully, our Supreme Court, however narrowly, just affirmed and assured our right to not be like you.

Gotta run, I’ve got guns to clean.

Maybe you should look at more than just the data that supports your bias:

Total crime per capita:

#6 United Kingdom: 85.5517 per 1,000 people
#8 United States: 80.0645 per 1,000 people

Total crime victims:

#3 United Kingdom: 26.4%
#15 United States: 21.1%

Assaults per capita:

#6 United States: 7.56923 per 1,000 people
#8 United Kingdom: 7.45959 per 1,000 people

Burglaries per capita

#7 United Kingdom: 13.8321 per 1,000 people
#17 United States: 7.09996 per 1,000 people

Car theft per capita

#3 United Kingdom: 5.6054 per 1,000 people
#9 United States: 3.8795 per 1,000 people

scary isnt it….kinda funny watching those old movies where criminals have taken over whole large cities like LA (snake plisken), we are currently looking to buy a house…and the realtor has alot of black areas on his map where he just wont go or sell a house !

BTW canada has more guns pr citizen than the americans ! so why isnt there as much guncrime there ?

funny when in europe what your looking for is grocery, schools, kindergarten in short distance….but over here your looking at criminal rates of the area….

danmark is getting worse because we have a flee rule, that means you have to do everything in your power to try and get away, before standing your ground….and your not allowed to have anything ready for self defence, say a baseball bat by the door not legal…and now because of the open european borders eastern criminals are walking in and out of the country….i say get the borders up and running again…

Europe does have limits…thats simply not true

Sweeden 10 joule (8fpe)
Denmark just went from no limits and silencers, to 10 joule and no silencers (rule went into effect 2 days ago, and basicly made everyone who owns an airgun a criminal along side criminals with ak47’s etc …tsktsk) 👿
Germany has restrictions cant remember if its 10 or 15 joule…

and now since most of the nordic countries have restrictions its just a matter of time before france, italy, luxemburg follow troop if they havent done so allready 👿

norway is still free of airgun restrictions 😈

And a high school to try it in.

That was uncalled for.

I would much rather live in a country with the 2nd Amendment gun rights than in your nanny state. Even living in Canada i can see the benefit to rightful gun ownership and the freedom the USA maintains.

frickin’ stupid comment there Tyke!

After 3 years at university my daughter has completed her degree and not once while she was living away from home did I fear she might be a victim of a school massacre, before you start spouting about this country and its rights go and ask the victims families what they think about private gun ownership.
We may not have terrifically powered air rifles but if we want them we can get a F.A.C. and get one and if we need anything more powerful we get them added to our ticket.

A jury in Texas has refused to indict a man who shot dead two men he suspected of burgling a neighbour’s house.
Joe Horn, 62, provoked a national debate about the right to self-defence after he shot the pair as they left his neighbour’s house in Pasadena, near Houston, in November last year.

What are you talking about?
skirmishing with what? paintball? the gear is only rated for 300fps so that is the limit everywhere.
I don’t follow how you are mixing skirmishing and airguns…..????

Skirmishing with airsoft. My AK was putting out over 500fps, and I was getting hit by that in return. The Japanese don’t mess, and it adds a whole extra dimension of fun to the proceedings.

Meanwhile, back here in Pussy-UK, I gave up on it when I had to down-grade my AK and a mild headwind decided the battle.

Having spent most of my life working abroad i can tell you now there are good and bad points to EVERY country and the UK is the same. I love my country although it’s falling apart, we have rain, snow and sunshine although the latter is getting harder to find 😕 we don’t get regular Tornado’s, hurricanes etc nor do we see the extreems of weather many other countries do thank god. our gun laws are dracconian however and that i hate and for that alone would leave, where would I go, well given the choice I would say Canada or perhaps the USA but that isn’t going to happen soon . don’t beleive all you hear about the UK though it can be stunning at times 😉

Hey Mike, I’m only staying in CA because i have a 16 y.o. daughter and want her to finish h.s. with her friends. After she goes to college (I hope) i’m going to start lookin for a better place. I can’t decide between NV, AZ, NM, or TX???? I’ve been to S.A. and absolutely loved it there. I have to be in the southern part of the good ol’ USA my wife has arthritis.

I thought Japan had strict gun laws on airguns and they had to be kept locked up at a club?

I bet you stay in the U.K. because of the great weather and wonderful cuisine 😛

They don’t have to be kept at a club, but it is very hard to get a licence. Unless you’re a very good friend of the local big-wigs. 😉

I stay in the UK because my wife prefers it here (She’s Japanese, and once a Jip-Nap has tasted freedom there’s no going back 😆 ).
