What’s the differences between a Cricket and an Edgun?
All Replies
Im with Ville on that one..!!
I guess VG wasn’t around when the first R3Ms came out and Machine Gun made his debut. Edgun’s were touch and go for a while there and there were a lot of real unhappy Edgun owners like MG. To declare the R3M the leader is nothing short of ludicrous ( and not the rapper). 😆 With the large prices drop that just happened on Matadors there may be some new recent buyers who are again un happy campers. Edgun are still now very good air guns. No longer the best for the price, however, like they once were. 😉
You´re so full of it it´s silly. EG build quality is lesser than that of a Cricket. It isn´t any more accurate, the “R3M” – afterthought is a joke to say the least and spare parts are unobtanium in any foreseeable future. Despite that Ed is one pompous dick who doesn´t know the meaning of words “customer” and “service”.
Get your facts straight before stating any. :angrymob:
Thanks fellow airguners. With me it works like this- when I buy a new gun. It has 3 strikes . The P12. Ordered mine with a Reg. Open box- Fill with air. Strike 1. Gun leaks. First impressions. poor. Strike 2. Workmanship. Poor. Sent out a leaking gun. Over all doesn’t meet my expectations. It was on the way back to Mrod in 48 hours. Cricket. Take out of box .Fill with air. Slow fill strike 1. Mag loading. It seemed like I don’t have enough hands to get the mag in. Strike 2 – cheek weld and handling. Felt heavy awkward. Strike 3 . Out you go. Edgun R3M standard. Fast air fill. Mag works smooth. Handling. Like its part of me.good balance. Nice cheek weld. Trigger = long first stage . Needs some work. Strike 1 Called up Ernest. His recommendation was to put in shim to shorten first stage.I did that and I have a keeper. This gun exceeded my expectations. I will rest my case.
SECoda “The Vulcan are near perfect out of the box with a few minor nits like the bolt size. The Turkish walnut stocks really pushes them over the top. He addressed most of the weaknesses of the 1st generation pups”.
Come Monday I will start calling Anthony at TT four times a day asking if my Vulcan is in yet :biggrinn:
Before the Zonk mod I’ve taught myself a one handed mag load.
While removing and installing a mag point the gun upwards at least 45 degree, this hold the cocking lever open for ya.
To unloading a mag.
Place your right hand over the receiver and with your ring finger lift and push the mag lever back and hold.
With your thumb push the mag through from left out through the right side of the receiver.
Use your trigger finger and middle finger to grab hold and pull the mag out.
To loading a mag.
Hold and push lightly on the mag with your right thumb on the left side of the mag opening and your trigger finger ready on the right side to catch the mag before it slips right though.
With your right hand over the receiver and with your ring finger lift and push the mag loading lever back.
The mag will slip right in, release the lever and move the mag around a bit if needed to find center.
Advance it by one click for good measure.
Is sounds complicated, but with some practice in no time you’ll be able to reload in the dark just like I do.
Try it and practice the process with an empty mag.

I made a quick video.
The current R3M I tried recently was definitely an improvement over the 1st gen that wouldn’t even index on the .25s. 😯 On the Cricket I recently added the “Zonk” modification to both of them and now it is near perfect. That holds the pin back. Kalibrgun should really adopt it and it is very simple.
OK Coda. I stand corrected with your Edguns. What I really hated on the one I had -cricket- was the stupid mag loading setup. How can a company not come up with a better design than that. I couldn’t go past that. It’s history. I’m loving it. My R3M that is. I agree with you on the Vulcan. So far so good.
Mine are both the STANDARD length versions but R3s (for gosh sakes Vise they are in the photo :biggrinn: ). The 30 cal gets hunting use on the larger varmints and it is a real keeper. I tried a recent R3M and the Edgun is still best a single shot IMO even with the latest iteration. The mag kits are available but I see no reason to mess up the R3. I give the edge to the Crickets like Sir Ville.
IMO the Edguns could benefit greatly by much slimmer and lighter stocks with a finer hardwood. The Vulcan are near perfect out of the box with a few minor nits like the bolt size. The Turkish walnut stocks really pushes them over the top. He addressed most of the weaknesses of the 1st generation pups.
It seems like the only difference is how they look. Cricket obviously did there reaserch also.
These are two of my main guns. The Cricket and Matador. I have to agree with GKU, I don’t like the trigger on the Matador. Easy gun to work on but that trigger feels sloppy compared to the Cricket. Accuracy though, it is amazing.
Matadors are not hard to get and I believe both Tonys have them in stock.
They are a bit more pricier, but it came down a little.
Every Airgun enthusiast should have the satisfaction of trying / having both at least at one time.

Thanks
I had an old Matador sold it to a friend that offered me a lot for it with a condition if he sells, I will be the first to know.
I prefer a easy to adjust trigger and a light pull, which I could not get out of that Matador.
I shot the new R3M and it’s a bit better ?
Owner complained about a mag shortage and parts are hard to come by ?
It’s personal preference and experience I believe.
They are both excellent guns and will out shoot any shooter how try to.
For the fact that many still own both.
