Q:

What scope are you guys using on your Edgun?

Just bought a 22cal. standard.
I want Mil dots for sure.. Not sure about power or 1″ or 30mm.
Is the 30mm to big?
Thanks

Phew! I’m exhausted.

I like Nikko Diamonds for 100 yds but they are heavy. Bushnell’s 4.5-30×50 for $750 are hard to beat. Hawke are ok and a great buy for the money but not for me even though I have like 4 of them (anyone need one or two?). Trijicon are dynamite but they are a grand. The list is endless. 😀

And no, the 30mm tubes are fine and what many use. If I were you, pick up a Hawke.

You guys really should take a look at the MTC/Optisan scopes too. They have real good reticles designed for air-rifles – both the SCB & the AMD are marvellous reticles for the intented purpose. Their Viper and Taipan line have really good glass, better than the Sidewinder on the Taipan and at least on par on the Viper. Don´t know who imports them to US though.

I have the Hawke 4026 on my Matadors and FX Boss. I really like the scope but, it is heavy. It does come with a lifetime guarantee, I have had to send a couple back and I get a new one in less than a week.

Hawke has the free ballistic program ChairGun designed for the 4026 and the software works great with the 4026. You can download it at their site. You have to input muzzle, 50 and, if you can get it (don’t shoot your chrony) 100 yard fps into it.

Inputting the muzzle and 50 yard fps will give you a BC for the pellet/Matador combination. You then need to plug in the BC and muzzle velocity, scope height (2.60”) with Leapers high scope mounts, pellet weight and you can then print out range cards and tape them to the stock.

I find that Chairgun works very well with the 4026 and it is dead on IF I can get the EXACT range to my target. At 100+ yards, it can be hard to pick up a ground squirrel’s head and not a spot 5 yards in front or behind the target.

If your Matador is set up to shoot the JSB 18.1 grain pellets at 885-890 fps and you have plugged in the proper numbers, Chairgun should give you a scope card that gives you mil and half mil holdovers out to 110 yards, in 5 yard increments.

I usually print out 20, 15 and 10 magnification range cards, tape them to the stock and I am good to go out to 150 yards just by adjusting the magnification.

Hawke also offers Chairgun for the Iphone and I use it a lot when out in the field.

Charlie and Mike are scope snobs and will tell you it isn’t worth wasting your time on money a cheap ass scope like the 4026 and that you need to spend way over $1000 for a (decent) scope.

I tried the $1000 Bushnell Elite Tactical 6424, 6-24 X 50 Tactical scope, it had clearer optics and also had HUGE ASS reticle bars, mil and half mil dots! I found it unusable for 100 yard target shooting and sold it for a loss.

To each his own.

PS; I was going to say that the Bushnell was a lot lighter mostly because I had read it here a few times. It turns out that the Bushnell 6424 weighs 27.0 OZ and the Hawke weighs 27.5 OZ so, the Hawke isn’t THAT much heavier!

i used a bushnell elite 6500 2.5-16 mil dot because i really value light weight in a quality scope on my edgun.

but for a beautiful reticule, the hawke sidewinder 30 1/2 mil-dot is tough to beat. if it weren’t so heavy i’d put it on all my rifles.
