Which .308 rifle
Ever since I shot that .30-06 at the range, I want one really bad 8) I did a little bit of studying and it looked like the majority of people said that .308 is a more accurate round than .30-06, is this true? It is also a lot more common.
I have been mostly looking at these two rifles

2500ft/lbs always seems like way overkill on rabbits to me!
Semi Autos have the SOFTER felt recoil than any other action.
Be careful when buying some surplus ammo. Some of it is corrosive. When shooting out that far, you do need good ammo. So yeah, you do have to shell out some money.
I also shop at TURNERS (unfortunately) but, not too often. But i have given them tons of my money.
And again….7mm remington magnum or a 338 lapua magnum….THEY KICK DUDE. Hince the word “MAGNUM”. Those are like elk and moose cartridges. The 6mm Bench Rest cartridge is probably one of the MOST accurate rounds in the world. Very nice round indeed.
Also, yes, the .308 has more POWER than the .223 or .22 cal cartridges but, the .22 cal cartridges are designed to EXPLODE into VARMINTS. Speer does make some 110 gr and some 130 grain Varmint bullet in .308 and they are good but, you have to reload them. Truthfully, i have shot rabbits at 150-175 yrds with my .308 and well, it was gory but nothing i would not expect from a .223 varmint round. I specifically shoot the 168 gr Hornday Poly Tip and it is not designed for the soft tissue of a rabbit.
I recently ordered myself a new .308, it’s one of the Remington R-25’s. It’s the same as the DPMS lr-308. Also picked up a POF .308 stripped lower, which is also compatable with the DPMS pattern ar-10 type parts.
Semi auto is more fun than working a bolt handle.
as far as calibre is concerned you can’t really go rong with an .308 for an allrounder if you have to pick just one rifle. Accurate, cheap ammo in surplus, wide range in factory loads and enough power to take most N American game.
as for the rifle make – I have no experience with the Kimber, but have been more than happy with all Sako and Tikka rifles I’ve used so far.
My sako 30-06 shoots 1moa or better with most factory loaded 180gr ammo.
i have shot rabbits and goats at 800 yards with a .223.
also done abit of shooting with the 6mmbr as lama refrenced.
i dont see why a .308 is needed unless you want small game and large game capabilites.
also the .338 lapua is a great round taking down rabbit sized animals at 800 yards.

OK that’s like .44 cents a round but I would looks into maybe the 146gr FMJ that shoots better for around .52 cents around and they shoot really flate for long range. Like airtight_python said “you gota pay to play” 😀
Got to pay to play. 😛 Pretty easy to learn to manage recoil. If you’re scared of it however, it’ll just cause flinch.

With both 308 and .30-06 you can find inexpensive high power rounds.
$2 a round is a little too pricey for me. And I bet the recoil is no fun.
If you’re talking about bunny slaying I would be into the .22-250, .220 Swift, .243 and maybe .257 Roberts.
If you’re looking for one of the all out flattest shooting reasonable size game cartridges available look no further than the 7mm Remington Ultra Magnum.
I was looking into semi-autos, but I am not talkin about bunny slayin’ here, this will be one shot one kill kind of deal. And a semi auto .308 must wear you out pretty quick?
I also looked into the .223 and .22-.250, but I would rather have a big chunk of lead going at a slower velocity than a small bullet zippin by at 4000 fps. Bigger bullet=more power. Am I on the right track?

Shit Bikini, you don’t need nothin more than the .308. Even that is overkill for shooting rabbits at 600+ yrds. Not a real lover of the .223 or .220 swift or the .22-.250 but, they are also much cheaper to shoot than the 308 and any rifle you get in .308 you can get in the smaller .22 calibers. Once you get into the bigger cartridges it becomes very expensive. Whether you buy factory or you reload yourself, anything bigger is MORE EXPENSIVE. Gotta think AMMO COST.
The M1A is a bad assed rifle. You just gotta decide on if you want a BOLT action or a Semi or a Single shot (TC Encore). You can even get a AR-10 which is .308 if you like the AR-15 look.
The .30-06 shines over the .308 when you start wanting to shoot 180+ grain bullets. Even though the .30-06 shoots all bullets faster than the .308, its not by some HUGE number.
I don’t have enough money to drop $5 for each shot. Even 300 win mag is more expensive than .308.
The m1a is another option, which model would work for my purpose?

TEF, you are right. After about 2-3 of them with the .308, i wanted to go and grab my Condor again. To expensive and too powerful to use on rabbits, especially since 6 ft lbs at the target is all you really need.
