Who’s using Bob Vogel’s 43 gr .22 cal hollow points ?
I picked up some at Roanoke, they really look good, but I haven’t shot any yet. Gonna try ’em in my Condor, maybe in the Sumatra.

Your discarding a great LW barel for one of unknown quaility, GM barrels are good, but individual barrels are always suspect until you shoot them, and your doing this so you can shoot a limited quanity, expensive as hell bullet, made by a vendor who by the looks of his video’s has not had adequate working ventilation. 😆
EJ 32’s work for me, a 25 caliber and 43 EJ’s work damn well also I am told, no to mention Jerry’s wadcutters.

I have 3 “cheap” Green Mountain Barrels in my Possession, and they will out shoot any barrel I have on the property, Kimber can’t even hold them a light. 😀
The above is kinda OT though, the topic being bullets or slugs vs. the traditional diablo pellet I think.
For what its worth, I think diablo pellets are a crutch for crap barrels and chokes are a crutch for crap pellets! Over time a symbiotic relationship has developed that allows pellet and barrel makers to enjoy a status quo that requires no money for R&D or product improvement.

Well, it’s not exactly well known or even agreed that the Austrians ever actually used the airguns they had in combat. Lot’s of myth there but few hard facts supported by any first hand accounts or even second hand documentation. It might just be that the Austrians found out about the problems before the airguns saw any actual combat… I’d love to see more real history regarding when the airguns were withdrawn from service and if they ever made a real combat debut.

Also, YES, THE CHOKE is the other factor in bad accuracy with AIR BULLETS. I cut the choke off the end of my LW barreled Condor while using JERRY’s super heavy pellets and accuracy increased two fold.

well my air bullets have arrived….they were packaged quite well and none appear to have been damaged during shipping..so once i get some free time (maybe this weekend) i will shoot a couple across the crony and then do some groups to see how they perform from my .22lr barrel.. again i got a selection of rounds to try out.. the 43grn in .217 & .218 and the 32grn in .217 (these have known problems in air rifle barrels). if any of these group worth a damn then i will probibly make up another batch of poorman’s balistic jelly and test the stoping power of these things.stay tuned i can only hope that these work as well as the .457 173grn rounds that i have for my 909s….Greg

Ok so to try and get this thread back on track…..I just got done talking with bob and I’ve just ordered some 43grn in .217 & .218 to give a try and he’s gonna throw in some of his 30grn rounds to try as well even though they have known issues to see how they work or don’t…and just so its known I was looking to get the 30’s amd a few 43’s to try but he advised me against the 30’s due to the problems he’s having with them at the moment…I will do some crony, accuracy and balistic testing as soon as I get the chance since I’m currently behind on a couple of jobs for members here (gotta love 12hr days)…Greg

I have been following some Yellow forum posts about shooting PB bullets in airguns. Most of the people say that, it can be done but, the accuracy is terrible.

I was told by John Bowkett several years ago that he had made in the 1980s several one-off pcp air rifles for customers in Northern Ireland. The situation over there was, and is to an extent, quite tight regarding airguns. All airguns regardless of power output were subject to FAC restrictions. Rimfire rifle ownership was not allowed except under exceptional circumstances and then strictly controlled. Even airgun pellets themselves had to be registered on an FAC which had to be produced every time a tin was bought and that tin entered on the certificate by the dealer. Only one tin at a time allowed. There was a demand for high powered air rifles for sporting use. Bowkett made several high powered air rifles but as usual the request was for ever more power. He eventually made some that used .22″ short rimfire bullet heads that at the time could be bough from Eley in Birmingham. They are probably made in Mexico or the Phillipines now. Hehehehehe. He found that as LD said there was too much friction in the barrel. First idea was a sizer. A regular pain in rectum. Second thought worked. He fitted his high powered pcps with 22/250 barrels made by Tikka. These were slightly bigger than rimfire barrels which he used at the time. Result. No sizing. Superb accuracy and 850fps with a regular .22″ short head. El C.
I am glad that I read that. I was going to order a .22RF barrel, from either Green Mountain or LW. I now know that the 22RF twist rate and bore size is all wrong for shooting PB bullets. I am in the middle of another project right now. When I get it done, I will be ordering a .223 centerfire barrel for my .25 cal. Long Version Edgun Matador. The .223 barrels are available in twist rates from 1/7 to 1/13. I still have to do more research to find out what twist I want. I plan on shooting 38-40 grain RF bullets and possibly go up to 60 grain CF bullets.

Simply poking fun at a man who is off the wall about marketing and obviously having too much fun.
Having said that, I still feel accuracy is the main ingredient in hunting and shooting. Blowing up water jugs, while fun, does not tell me much.
Posts telling me about removing chokes and and heavy slugs, do tell me a lot.
If I have insulted Bob Vogel out of turn and with my sharp turned discourse, well I will have to apologise for that.
And judging by your incessant posts, I have obviously ruffled your young tail feathers Condor. 😆

ok so i have had these .22 airbullets in my possession waiting for today to roll arround and now i cant get out to shoot any groups due to the fact that i have a cross wind from hell blowing rite now…if it subsides before dark i will shoot some groups and get the pictures posted for you guys. once bothe of my boys go down for a nap then i will head to the shop/garage amd shoot a couple of each across the crony to see how fast their moving..Greg
