Who’s using Bob Vogel’s 43 gr .22 cal hollow points ?
I picked up some at Roanoke, they really look good, but I haven’t shot any yet. Gonna try ’em in my Condor, maybe in the Sumatra.

Hmm, didn’t the career 707 have a 1:8 twist rate? Green Mountain also has really low cost 1:7 twist bull barrels, but they will need some serious machining to fit in an airforce gun. Does anyone have a clue why such slow twist rates are STILL used in air rifles? 1:16 is just way too slow.
OK guys I,m gonna throw something out here to think about. The airgun bullets are never gonna get the accuracy wanted because the spin rate of a air rifle barrel is way tooooooooooo slow to stabilize it . Air rifle barrels are based on a “DRAG” stabilized pellet, rather than a spin stabilized bullet.
Makes speed IRRELEVANT, if the spin rate is below required to stabilize the a very heavy air gun bullet. Just barely enough spins, not going to get very good accuracy.

There you have it, raise the bullet spin rate and accuracy should follow.

I’m with rj-porter, anyone using a non-choked barrel. Seems it would haft to make some difference, good or bad? Most choked barrels don’t seem to do to good, anyway.

Windy today, but no rain & nice temps so I went back for another trial. I shot two groups of five shots and a bunch more at reactive targets, beer cans & milk jugs full of water. These things are a bit pricey for shooting groups. All shots were at 60 yards in wind blowing 15 mph and gusting to 20+ mph according to our local weather guy. One group was with a full 2900 psi charge, measured 1.5″ horizontal by barely over an inch vertical spread. The other group was at about 1500 psi, needing a refill… measured 2″ horizontal by 1.25″ vertical spread and considerably lower POI than full power. I’ve never had beer cans come apart like these with any pellets I’ve tried, even at 25 to 40 yards, my usual distance I shoot at home. Shot at full power, they destroyed the can and made a nice cavity two or three inches deep in the dirt behind, were recovered well mushroomed. Shot at 1500 psi, they went through a quart milk jug lengthwise and a good 4″ into the dirt, and weren’t mushroomed, merely distorted on the nose. I had hoped to catch one in the milk jug since the power was down pretty low. No such luck. No keyholing was observed at any point, the slower rounds made a nice round hole going in. I have some pictures, but they’re big & may not post, and I’ve never put any pics on this or the yellow forum either, so I don’t know if I can anyway. The short version of this story is that I had pretty good luck with these 43 gr hollow points. I can get a bit more out of my stock Condor than it’s presently set for, maybe these bullets would do even better at a faster velocity. The only thing not to like is the price… they do carry energy downrange. More testing is needed.
they r supposed to work good in unchoked barrels from what i hear choked barrels slow them down alot ald throw out the accuracy
I tried a few 43 gr bullets in the Sumatra and it was a waste of time. I checked the Condor with a couple of Eun Jin heavies… right on. I had two quart milk jugs and 8 coke cans full of water about 60 yards away. I shot one of each with the heavies for reference and switched to the 43 gr hollow points. I took a shot at a mud bank to see how much extra drop there was, lower by about a dot. I shot the other milk jug which jumped in the air and fell over. I then blew up a coke can… interesting so far. The next thing I knew, big rain drops were falling… I had to retreat to the barn post haste. I shot a few more times, but from the barn was an extra 15 yards and through some tall weeds. I was not doing any good from the barn with whatever ammo I tried, so I gave up. Next nice day, I’ll revisit the 43 gr bullets. They do blow things up, not sure how they’ll do otherwise. Probably not so good, but I’ll see…
It appears that if the can hit a water jug at a few feet and sell well they are a go.
Years ago I tried to get 69 grain HPs meant for.223’s 1/7 to 1/9 barrels to shoot in a 1/12 .22 barrel
The rifle was a 22-250 Ackely improved that would do 4000FPS with a 55 grain. I reasoned, correctly in theory but not execution, if I could shoot them a high enough velocity that even the 1/12 would stablize them.
Problem was, even the 22-250 Ackley would not shoot them fast enough, I kept increasing the powder charge until primers blew, which was what that particular case did, blew the primers as a first sign of over pressure, but still had keyholes.
Those 22 Vogel HP bullets just like the 69 grainers, are too heavy for the twist.
That 22-250 Ackley Improved gave me my longest deer kill, a laser measured 575 yards trotting, from a sitting postition. That tiny bullet blew all the vessels off the top of his heart at that range, he dropped so fast I did not see him go down.

I would be interested in seeing your results.
I think most people have trouble with two things or at least think they do.
#1 They may not be the correct diameter.
#2 They may be two heavy and too long to stabalize in the Condor with the twist and velocity.
Jery’s slugs in .22 seemed to have the same trouble (#2) and did not give good accuracy as a result.

Cause airguns are designed for PELLETS and not BULLETS. The always have been. People making BULLETS for airguns is something very new in the grand scheme of things. Hell, airguns are still new.
Also, YES, THE CHOKE is the other factor in bad accuracy with AIR BULLETS. I cut the choke off the end of my LW barreled Condor while using JERRY’s super heavy pellets and accuracy increased two fold.
