wife shot dog
this weekend was interesting , we were down at my grandpa’s camp (17 acres on the river) and shooting. well my cousin needed some help so I left my wife there shooting. An hour later I got back and she was setting on the deck with the dog and waving for me to come over, I thought OH SHIT..( Just for a little more info my dog likes to chase the pellets and usually stands by the target when shooting) Well, my wife shot our dog. She was shooting at about seventy yards with the scope on high zoom and the dog ran across the yard right as she pulled the trigger. The pellet hit the ankle bone of the back right leg. Luckly I had the gun turned way down . I had my condor shooting RWS super domes .22 at 850 fps. The pellet flattened out completely to almost a half inch and wedged between her joint in her ankle bone. I had to cut open the hole and grab the pellet and pull it out, which took awhile. My dog is very well trained and didn’t move at all while I was doing it. She was a trooper. After that I bandaged it up and she was out like five minutes later like it never happened…It was a pretty close call and she could of killed the dog quite easily or if I was shooting heavy pellets could of shattered the dogs ankle …My wife felt really bad for it. PS..Now she’s a little gun shy..I don’t think she’ll be chasing any pellets anytime soon.

Glad the pup is ok… for Mrs Ed… next time, place a cooler of beer out at the target and wait on Ed to show up before flinging lead downrange! 😈

If I were a dog I wouldn’t, and be proud of hubby, for his surgical skills 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 , the vet probably would have cost a small fortune.
And most of all have hubby teach you how to shoot the 9mm 🙄 🙄 🙄 😈 😈 😈 😈

This is eds wife. I kept telling the dog to move. She wouldn’t so I started shooting some place else. She ran off so I started shooting back at the target I started shooting in the first place. She came out of no where. I felt sooo bad…I cried really hard cause I don’t really like to shoot things. And she has been a part of our family for soo long. I have learned my lesson. She usually runs around while ed is shooting. He is better at it then me, that’s why I kept telling her to move cause I didn’t want to hit her. That’s why I started shooting some place else cause she wouldn’t move. I didn’t want to hit her. But when she ran off I thought it was ok. I apologize if I have upset anyone. Trust me it hurt me bad to put her through that. THANK GOD she is fine now. I have babied her all day. She seems to be doing fine. I won’t be shooting for awhile. I don’t want to hurt anything else.

11. Never teach your wife to shoot.
shooting with the dog running around in the yard close to, and into the target path is just wrong.
put a chain on her when shooting or keep her in the house…i understand why you did the surgery at home….had you gone to a vet and told them you accidentally shot the pooch….you would have the cops visiting you soon after !
im glad doggie is ok…must have hurt like a bitch to get that pellet out, hope it didnt do any permanent damage…i also hope wife/you learned your lesson

1. ALWAYS KEEP THE MUZZLE POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION.
There are several safe “carries” depending on the situation. NEVER ALLOW THE MUZZLE TO POINT IN THE DIRECTION OF A PERSON.
2. TREAT EVERY GUN AS IF IT WERE LOADED.
You can never be positive that you were the last person to handle the gun. Never take anyone’s word whether or not a gun is loaded. Always check to see if a gun is loaded when removed from storage or received from another person. Even if you have fired an airgun one or more times and no pellet or BB was expelled from the barrel, it does not mean that the magazine of the gun is empty of ammunition. Any airgun can fail to feed for any number of reasons. Continue to treat the airgun as loaded and ready to fire. ALWAYS TREAT A GUN AS IF IT IS LOADED EVEN IF KNOW IT ISN’T.
3. ONLY LOAD OR COCK A GUN WHEN YOU ARE SHOOTING.
A loaded gun has no place in your home or other public place.
4. CHECK YOUR TARGET AND BEYOND YOUR TARGET.
Be sure all persons are well clear of the target area before you shoot. Check behind and beyond your target to be certain you have a safe backstop and that no person or property could be endangered.
5. ANYONE SHOOTING OR NEAR A SHOOTER SHOULD WEAR SHOOTING GLASSES.
Also, all other persons should remain behind the shooter.
6. NEVER CLIMB OR JUMP WITH A GUN.
You can’t control the direction of the muzzle if you stumble or fall. You should safely lay the gun down or hand it to a companion while you climb or jump over anything.
7. AVOID RICOCHET.
Never shoot at a flat hard surface or at the surface of water. Ammunition can ricochet off of water just like a skipped rock.
8. KEEP THE MUZZLE CLEAR.
Never let anything obstruct the muzzle of a gun. Don’t allow the muzzle to come in contact with the ground.
9. GUNS NOT IN USE SHOULD ALWAYS BE UNLOADED.
Keeping guns unloaded when not in use is critical to the safety of you and others. When you are finished shooting, put the trigger safety in the “on” position and unload the gun. Store guns so that they are inaccessible to untrained shooters and store ammunition separately from the gun.
10. RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE’S PROPERTY
Whether you’re target shooting or hunting, if you are a guest on other’s land, you should leave it exactly as you found it.

We purposly don’t let the dog stand in front of the target. Mamcrackin was right she came in from the right where we can’t see very well and my wife is still learning how to shoot. She has a soft heart so she felt really bad. It happen monday and today it scabbed over and it looks better . She is a lab mx and is about 6 yrs old. We have clocked her on an ATV at 30-35mph and she takes off on running spells across the yard. It’s hard to tell where she is coming from. And I hear what you say about not teaching your wife to shoot. When I first met her she was afraid of guns and wouldn’t shout them and now she has taken posession of my BSA hornet. But I’m still lucky though she can’t shoot my 9mm hand gun worth a crap yet. Guess when she does I need to watch out!!
ps..with my condor she can keep a 6inch group at 50 yards!
But I love my wife and I wouldn’t trade her for the world. Her nickname is killer now. I think I have read some where that women make better target shooters then men! But I still got her beat, she’s learning though. I’ll have her a pro in no time. 😀

Now about number 3 Bull. This is Texas and you had better believe the gun or guns I am carring at any given time are loaded cocked and locked. A unloaded gun is as useless as = you fill it in.
There are no children in our home. Well except my wife and I and we were taught from early on the proper handling of Guns, Knives, and ammunition.
We just moved from the # 2 worst town in Texas for home invasion and burglary.( Last year it was # 1 and with a population of less than 100,000.) All guns are in the vault when we are gone. There are at least 3 loaded and ready to fire in hidden places in our home that only we know where they are. I’ve used them before, and wont hesitate to do so again if it becomes necessary. Neither myself, my wife, nor any innocent by stander is going to lay down their life for a criminal thug if I can in any way prevent it. As a mater of fact. That is Texas Law. There is no Law in Texas even remotely similar to Cali- Wierds run out the back door doctorine.
