wife shot dog
this weekend was interesting , we were down at my grandpa’s camp (17 acres on the river) and shooting. well my cousin needed some help so I left my wife there shooting. An hour later I got back and she was setting on the deck with the dog and waving for me to come over, I thought OH SHIT..( Just for a little more info my dog likes to chase the pellets and usually stands by the target when shooting) Well, my wife shot our dog. She was shooting at about seventy yards with the scope on high zoom and the dog ran across the yard right as she pulled the trigger. The pellet hit the ankle bone of the back right leg. Luckly I had the gun turned way down . I had my condor shooting RWS super domes .22 at 850 fps. The pellet flattened out completely to almost a half inch and wedged between her joint in her ankle bone. I had to cut open the hole and grab the pellet and pull it out, which took awhile. My dog is very well trained and didn’t move at all while I was doing it. She was a trooper. After that I bandaged it up and she was out like five minutes later like it never happened…It was a pretty close call and she could of killed the dog quite easily or if I was shooting heavy pellets could of shattered the dogs ankle …My wife felt really bad for it. PS..Now she’s a little gun shy..I don’t think she’ll be chasing any pellets anytime soon.

Never shot a dog but…
When I was a kid I used to go fishing at a nearby lake off a friends dock. He had a Golden Retriever that he’d throw tennis balls out into the lake and the dog would get a running leap off the end of the dock and swim out for them. One day the neighbor was outside with his dog while I was fishing and I was using a Rapala minnow lure with the treble hooks. The dog must have thought I threw a ball out when I cast because he came bolting across the yard and jumped right on the lure as I was trying to reel it back in. One of the hooks caught him right in the nostril. The neighbor and I had to basically tackle the dog so he didn’t try to run off with the hook in his nose and when the neighbor tried to remove it he couldn’t get the barb loose. He had to push the hook all the way through and cut the barb off.
I think I felt worse than the dog did.
Could happen to anyone…I was recently told that Snipers don’t use high
mag scopes for that very reason…The small field of view makes it
impossible to see if someone or something is going to cut across thier
line of fire….I shoot with both eyes open and that helps but, I still can’t
see what is coming from the right…Glad to hear everything came out
alright….
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times over the years. Keep BOTH EYES OPEN!!! You need all of your full vision when shooting! you wouldn’t drive around town in a car with one eye closed would you?
And allowing your dog, child, by stander, what ever, to stand by a target while you are shooting?
And you wonder why and how the anti are trying to take away our guns.
Use common sense when shooting, or don’t shoot! Take up bad mitten or something without bullets!
I’m glad your dog is OK. It could just as well have gone the other way.
