Q:

XP airguns ranger 45 caliber 36inch barrel MONSTER !

I now have my new xp airguns ranger 45 caliber airgun , and i must say this is a MONSTER shooting gun . 😆 😆 😆 😆

So far i have tested out 454 round ball ,and 250 grain laser cast bullets .

during brake in so far the round ball is working better , dead on accurate shooting 3000 psi 1070 fps on low power , mid power 3800 psi 1150 fps working down 9 shots to 877 .

The laser cast 250 grain stuff , on mid power 987fps working down 9 shots to 720 ,

these numbers should improve by around 50 fps after break in according to Dan Mcvey .

this gun gets a lot of shots for a big bore , and with the long barrel the power stays up even at low pressures . 😉

some pics shooting this weekend.

Agree with RC on the dial. i turn mine all the way up till the lead is liquid then i keep mine on 7 the rest of the time till im finished casting all my bullets. 7 is my SLEEP NUMBER….LOL….GET IT….SLEEP NUMBER….NUMBER 7….uhhh, get…….ohhhhhh forget it. 😛 😆

Dan,

Those dials don’t have much to do with temperture. I would put it all the way until you get a full melt, then back off to 80%.

Your going to have fun making those.

I just ordered the same accurate 46-425b mold with 52 pure lead for size …..with 1 extra bullet 45-340 B Casull sized 452
so it is a 3 bullet mold , i like how fast that 340 shot , so i figure the casull is very close in design to the 425 ..so cross my fingers that 1 works good 2 , just thought i would try and extra bonus 1 😆
Charlie what handles did you get for your accurate mold ?

also i am going to order a Lee 2 cavity 452 – 255 grain flat nose product # 775 664 from midway , that 1 looks like a mini version of the other 2

OH BOY ! I got my casting stuff in from midway ….20lbs pot /454 round ball mold / 8= 10lbs lead bars / flux /kroil for the mold ………and i am to dam tired from stupid work to do anything with it right now !

but i could get sick tomorrow and make round balls all day ! 😆 😆

one thing a forgot to order was a temp gauge 😥 how high would you guys set the temp on the pot on ? for pure soft lead ?

I put the Charlie bullets there , for good casting /shooting luck ! 😆 😆 those bullets hit like a dam SLEDGE HAMMER ! 😈 BAM ! 😆

They are a 15 bhn. sized to .452 . I really do not know how accurate they are .I shoot them through the chrony one time . I was in a hurry and the wind picked up . Have not had a opportunity to really shoot them again . But they did not fair as well as my other bullets that day . Marvin

Marvin,

That is great, thanks.

It is information like this that when shared, and the sharing of resources like bullets, that benefits us all.

It will interesting to see what the different twist does to that little short slug.

What diameter are you turning out and what alloy or in your case BHN are you using?

It looked like an inexpensive alternative to the EPP UG slug at first glance.

If you are talking about the Lee mold . Hold off for a bit . I have that mold and I was not thrilled with the out come . But it might have been me . I am sending Dan a few to try this week . Lets see what he has to say .Marvin

I am not a gambling man, now there are a lot of people who would disagree with that considering some of lifes adventurers I have been on.

The EPP UG is a nice bullet, but it is a name that is hard to say. 😆

Last night I was getting together an order for Tuesday morning, when I was looking thru the Midway mold section and I saw a 165 grain 452 RF bullet in a double cavity mold for less than $20.00, I already have a RB mold in the cart and I added the RF bullet, anyone ever had experience with that one?

Nice shooting…..whole lotta power behind that accuracy!

Take a good look at that Accurate Molds’ 180grain version of the EPP/UG for a lightweight alternative. Worth a gamble, as the regular 154grain EPP/UG’s appear to work stellar in RoachCreek’s Ranger.

YEP, those big bullets of RC’s are keepers for sure. These big bores with their current twist rates really seem to like the 300-400+ gr bullets. Very nice shooting and very nice casting by RC.

Dan,

They don’t seem to like the Lee Alox I guess.

That was shooting them with no lube at all 4200 psi , 50-60 yards , I was tethered to a 44cf tank , god that was fun shooting , i can see now what design of bullet that gun likes , that 408 ,and 340 both shot well , got hit by a hail storm up there and had to put everything in the Yukon quick like 😯 , before i could get my table down the ice /snow was 1 inch thick ! 😯

we had a couple of Army special ops guys up there today , they both shot my gun , and were amazed , these guys were blasting gun nuts i must say , my ear plugs were in the whole dam time , i don’t know how many clips they blasted through 😆 😆 😆 those guys set up targets in all direction then ran around and aggressively , un-loaded clips on all targets , they said they were headed back to afghanistan for more Killing ! one guy showed me 2 hollow point 40 cal bullets opened up like flowers that he said went through some taliban members ! CRAZY ! 😈

Dan,

It is not fair comparing your groups to mine, your 8 inches closer to the target. 😆

Roachcreek

HA ! HA ! thanks again Charlie , those bullets you made hit like a sledge hammer 😈 😆 😆 BOOM ! ——-BAM !

around 900 3 shots right next to each other , i will try again to post the pic up , the 340’s were almost 1000 fps i cleaned the lube off them , before i shot the 45 425b’s ,
