The Standard 30 Cal Matador Has Arrived!
I congratulate Tony plus others on the packing job. Thank you Ed for creating an incredible airgun. My first impression is it’s so tiny and light – nearly a Standard Cricket for a 30 cal monster. Here are the first photos including the unpacking. It still says .22. 😀 Now the fun begins;.

It does make sense that the physics of rotating the magazine, cocking a much heavier hammer spring, and pushing that huge pellet into the chamber is going to seriously change the “feel” of how the bolt functions. It will be interesting to see if it is as simple as a “break in” period, and some good lube, is all that’s needed, or whether a degree or two change on the multi’s functioning mechanism might need to be needed. That’s half the fun of this sport. It WILL get sorted out, of that I am certain!
Is the .30 loud? I’m very curious about that oval shroud/ldc on the end and how effective it is in the real world.

Old Goat will squeeze every ounce of life out of that regulator! I’m interested in what other fine tuning ideas will crop up.
It appears the trigger is quite adjustable for all uses. That’s a great asset to start out with. With some fine tuning on the regulator innards, and HST spring fine tuning, I’ll bet that gun can be made into an even better prime hunting gun!
It’s just a matter of time for the bolt/breech issue to get resolved. Lots of fuss about a small problem. Hell, half the world is working on it as we speak! NZ swears some moly paste will sort it out quite nicely. I don’t have any of that, just a can of liquid moly lube, so I believe I’ll get online and grab a tube/can of that and smooth out my .25 Long.

I am tickled with 25 good shots. It looked like Ed was only getting about 20 in that NZ post. Maybe OG will figure out how to beef up the regulator. 😀 I haven’t done anymore accuracy testing yet but at least I know what pressure range to try in now.

That would happen to me with my HM1000X, fill to 250 and it wouldn’t regulate till around 220 bar after that it was a nice tight string right down to 160bar, I sent the regulator to martin and He beefed it up some… said its holding 250 bar now. just waiting for the mailman now.
That .30 is shooting really tight for 25 shots though.
is the accuracy getting better?

I read what Ed said in NZ. If I go to a high fill (say 240) the reg may not open until about 220 with an erratic velocity above that. We will see what happens. My reg must be adjusted differently than that one somehow already. It had more consistent shots but then dropped like a rock off of reg. Ed’s had less consistent shots and slowly came down off reg.
Update: I topped it off to 240 bar and shots a few shots. They were only in the 840s (fine for hunting but not group shooting) so the regulator had not opened yet I guess. I will finish another full tin of pellets and then try the string from 240. I want to see what some of the other 30s get. If this is a fluke for the std .30 or is it tuned differently? I am not touching it or taking it apart – just shooting it while it is good. 😯 Since I am a hunter I would be tickled pink with 35 shots that start in the 840s and go up to the 870s once on reg at this power level in the less small package. For accuracy testing I might do 200 bar to maybe 130bar the way this baby is adjusted and take the flattest 15 shots.
Now: fill it to 240 bar, shoot another string and post it.
Will do from 240. I want to get one more tin of pellets through it first and see if it settles down a bit more which won’t take me long. (I am actually pleasantly surprised) I may have to run the Shoebox an extra cycle this month. 😯

Here is the first fast (outside 🙂 ) shot string from my Standard .30 cal Matador after one full tin of pellets have been shot. Of course my SC printer shot craps so I have to key it. The fill was from 220 bar to off reg at about 110 bar. Not too shabby until it fell off of the reg about shot #26. Easily 30 hunting shots especially on a 230 bar fill. Looks like 25 good accurate shots. I’ll graph it in a bit. Looks like it creeped up a bit but not by much over the string.

Trigger time! I just finished adjusting the trigger and it ended up at 15 oz with the 2nd stage and a medium-low (the way I like it) travel with the first 1st stage. I took the opportunity to blue Loctite that linkage screw that always loosens up eventually. Did I mention the stock finish is really nice? It beats the Cricket this time. I still think the grip is too thick but the shimmer and smoothness of the grain is really nice.
It’s going to hurt drilling but the next step is to put the Magpul accessory mount on the front. I need to go pick up the black headed screws first.
Well I haven’t really done full groups yet (waiting for two full tins) but after 110 pellets shot I had three pellets with two touching and the third nearly touching at 42 yards when I checked it once that I was pretty excited about. That was under 1/2″. I don’t have a clue if it will do that consistently but I can’t complain and is close to my .25. It has improved a lot since the first ten shots.
BTW – my current targets are set at 33, 42, and 50 yards. I will add a 60 and a 75 soon when I get around to clearing some brush.

Hoot – I just spotted the noise question in this. The noise is a mixed bag on the 30 cal IMO. It’s pretty quiet coming out of the barrel with the new muffler and quieter than my .25 std but there is quite a bit of hammer slap noise coming back to your one ear. The good news is that bothers mainly the shooter and isn’t really loud even a few feet away. The bad news is one needs an ear plug on the gun side to shoot IMO. I am sure some foam or other noise insulation will limit that significantly.
