Leadbetter before the link was remove the photos shown had Ed’s trademark dog and name on the action. It was a copy not a clone
I get your point, and I have a gun my grandfather took off a dead German that was apparently made in Russia. However, thwt not exactly the same as handing over high end tech that took us years and billions to develop. It also doesn’t leave American pilots flying aircrafts with stability logic devises that were made in china. I’m not making any straight up accusations, but there were a few issues with some very expensive fighters falling out of the sky for no good reason a few years back.
quote=”Leadbetter”]Guess I’ll chime in……….. First off I didn’t see the clone pics, but if it’s got Ed’s logo on it then yes it’s theft. There is already enough junk airguns on the market, do we really need anymore? I’m sure crossman will have a bp on the market before long for about the same cash as all the other knock offs were seeing now. I will not be buying any of them. I’ve wasted to much time and money make expensive guns (pb and ag) work right.
As for the Chinese building stuff for the USA military….. That’s messed up! I heard a few years back that the Russian military was buying Chinese scopes that where designed by an American company. Look that just blew my mind that Americans and Russians with all our power and ingenuity are turning to a country that steals our intellectual property to build the gear that we use to defend our nations with.
But this isn’t the first time this as happened. A few years back my grandpa gave me his brothers straight razor that he carried through North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Czechoslovakia, and Germany during WW2. The blade has Uncle Sam inscribed at the handle end of the blade. The other side says made in Germany! Get my drift.

Who can know China conditions, Chinese on gun toy is banned, what they to abroad, especially in the international well-known, such as EDGUN, how many people can understand, everyone in the following their love and dream, I believe ED you I also is to follow his dream to create such a superb products
You are right. Actually, there are many airgun hobbyists,if chinese on airgun is not banned, edward’ Production(edgun) can not meet the demand of chineses. it is big number, you cant imagine. many chinese people like the design of edgun, cricket gun, airforce talon and so on…..most of them cant buy these guns by the market. it is not lawful, so some peoples who Know mechanical processing made the airgun by themselves, and manufacturing process ,Secretly sold Through network. There are many models ,such as b50, airforce(be modelled on airforce talon ), edgun, cricSecretly buy et gun ……all of these ,there is no barrel, some barrel is Secretly boughr from hongkong ,taiwan. thus much.

Copyright and patents are usually only secure up to a point.
If you take an idea and change 25% of it (and sometimes less) the protection no longer holds.
If we take what most people are calling the ‘clone’ and look closely. It does not have a stressed barrel. Which could be argued is a change to the design/utility (how much is as usual, up for debate and difficult to prove either way). Ed will tell you first hand that the stressed barrel adds accuracy and depending on how the patent is worded might be one of the key design ideas that he is protecting under said patent. The ‘clone’ does not have such a stressed barrel. It is a considerable change from R2 to R3, leaving it out is in my opinion a huge difference, since how the barrel is secured must be drastically different from the R3 barrel holding system.
The stock is also a change even though it is essentially the same shape (at least I have never seen a blown plastic hollow two part plastic or synthetic EDgun stock). Shapes which can also be protected are difficult to protect since slight changes will push them out of the protection umbrella.
Using the name, logo and such is completely unacceptable and copied as such is unacceptable. But I also think some of that holds true for the P12 even though it is an older EDgun design and isn’t using the logo and name so blatantly.
Ed, I am happy to see you have some type of protection (although I have no idea what it says). I thought I remember you saying you just build it better and if anyone clones it the quality will not be the same. 😉 Is the patent system similar to the one in the USA? Or is that a copyright?
Wingman, while you see and describe the differences I bet if you put a P12 in a silver EDgun stock folks would be hard pressed to see that it is much different from the R2. The angles on the receiver are the same even if it is slightly wider. Scope towers are super similar. Now contrast that with how different in design and use the receiver and scope towers are on the Cricket when compared to the EDgun.
dear everbody , keep calm, first,Chinese is a gun ban countries,Including air gun 。it meas there is no airgun on the market ( legal) ,so,if you like airgun,if you like hunting, only Secretly play,,so many people homemade(diy)airgun。 In fact, Chinese people who is Hunting hobby are very poor 。they can not buy the beatiful airgun from market。 sorry for my poor English。 i from china
i think we should know a knockoff exists and see what they are and how to identify them. somebody could buy them, change the stock out. and label it as a legit edgun. and then whoes to say we wouldnt know the difference if we bought it off a classified and then we get it, tear ot down. and its not legit?
somebody needs to buy one and do a breakdown so we know i think. instead of shunning them. they may look the same outside, but inside is what counts
People are going to buy knock offs on purpose and on accident, that is not the issue.
Giving Knock off free advertising is not what we are about here.
There is an entire internet for people to discuss whatever they want…
Here we support innovation and craftsmanship….not lazy rip offs.
Since those guns will never be sold in China your entire post is non sequitur
i didnt say that did i. in china and to china it doesnt mean anything. they dont adhere to any kind of copyright laws or regulations unless acheived within china, japan.
Actually that piece of paper may not mean squat but it does identify intellectual property. If you think that doesn’t mean squat I suggest you read this article

no offense here ed, but this piece of paper doesnt mean squat anywhere in china or any other country on in that general region. theres a reason you can buy bootleg dvd’s on street corners of movies that arent even available in the usa on dvd or blu-ray. there is no copyright laws to enforce unless inside theyre own country.
i work in the motorcycle, bicycle industry. and i see tons of shit stuff come that says “assembled in the USA” but that doesnt mean shit because in reality its made in china and packaged as american made before it reaches a consumers hands.
at the end of the day, they dont care. and honestly its sad that they cant take pride and actually try to make a legit product to sell to us or on any market and have it be of somewhat quality.
the p12 is a great gun and as wingman stated its a great budget gun for anybody wanting to own a bullpup but cannot afford a cricket, a edgun, a bobcat, or a marauder conversion for that matter. this is a shit clone yes. BUT if it floats some guys boat to own a cloned edgun. at the end of the day buddy, you can laugh at them when it blows apart, then feel bad they got hurt, then laugh again cause it blew up and know you werent behind it and can identify it isnt yours by the castings the breeches are made from rather then a milled block like it should be
Ed works hard at putting out a good product so lets no spread the word of any knockoffs of his stuff.
Lets support the people who support us and not direct knock off products
Ed if you want this thread removed let me know.
you may get mad at me for this, but so be it.

The very first Daystate PCPs made in 1980 used this design and so did Falcon PCP around the same time.. it has been used ever since by many PCP makers because it simply works..
We could play that game all day… 😆
The issue here is not the P12s hammer design or barrel clamping method as Ed has long changed those designs on the Matador for the better anyway…
The issue is the Chinese made exact copies of the Matador marked with all the genuine Edgun marking…
P.S. If anyone else uses my photos like the one above I will also start charging royalties…
