Q:

What’s the differences between a Cricket and an Edgun?

Is it preference or quality?

Am I right it was the first bullpup?

I went to the shooting range with my Matador, cleaned barrel and JSB heavies from a different batch. I shot from a prone position and I hit a 5 mm circle from 50 meters with the first shot. That is what I call consistency.

Sir Ville, I still do not know what is the barrel mounting system in Vulcan. Is it free floating like in ED?

Kinda “semi free floating” in abscence of better description. It is clamped at the barrel/AT junction but not at all as hard as ie Cricket but it isn’t just pushed thru it and screwed on like in an EG.

EdGun sure is a legend – in its own way …

Was Ed the founder inventor of the Bullpup ?

Found this info on the Bullpup rifle http://firearmshistory.blogspot.com/2011/01/what-is-bullpup-rifle.html

Does anyone know the history behind the Bullpup Air gun ?

What’s the difference between a Cricket and an Edgun?

Well the technical differences have already been fairly pointed out by many (Ville, etc) so let’s move to another aspect: money.

Yesterday:

Edgun RIDICULOUSLY OVER PRICED
Cricket fairly priced

Today:

Edgun fairly priced (downward trend because of obsolescence)
Cricket fairly priced (downward trend because of obsolescence)

Concerning accuracy, they both have always been “boring” accurate.

IMHO and :2cents:

Right on ! The days of Ed has passed. The ” i’ll never sell them at discount. I rather keep them” seem to be gone. There aren’t nearly the same market for EG’s anymore so he dropped the price. Not many people want them regardless.
He is facing serious trouble : FX is coming with new models, Vulcan beats the shit out his Gun and many other new BP’s around the corner.
Well – you get what you deserve. Bye bye !

quote Scott_MCT:

For those who claim the Cricket is not as accurate as an Ed gun this is not my experance. I also own an AirWolf MCT. My Cricket in side by side comparison is equally accurate. I don’t own an Ed gun but both my Cricket piles one 18 grn pellet on top of each other set at 880 fps. It’s hard to get more accurate than that. I’m sure the Ed gun does the same.

I own a Cricket now for about three weeks the gun stacks pellets.

My Cricket 22 standard self tuned and custom adjusted.

98 shots = 7 mags

Avg – 880
ES – 6

The shots where all taken off of my trucks tail gate with a home made rest.

I don’t mean to brag or anything, buy I’ve been shooting a lot in the past 46 years or so.
Have been in 10m match pistol shooting off and on.
It’s a very demanding type of shooting and it’s where I’ve learned how to shoot all types of air guns the best.

Some interest if you’d like to read but it’s not for everyone and can be come quit time consuming.

~ ATB ~ GKU ~ p.s. What makes the difference in an average shooter, and a great shooter, is most often found between his ears, not the breech and muzzle of gun.

Similar length of shooting – used to load all my own cartridges, favoring the smaller stuff like 22-250, 223, 243, 25-06, 7mm mag. Longer range shooting – 250 yards down to 100. I got rid of all my center fire stuff since I own a horse breeding farm and pellets don’t upset thing or anyone, even out here in the country. The other thing I like is target archery 20 meters to 90 yards, Hoyt Vantage Elite. Anyway, I think you are saying its experience. I’ve owned my PCP’s for less than a year, but have to say the inconsistency drives me crazy.

Man, we have a lot in command, those cals do ring a bell….
Target archery done that about 30 years ago.
The one great shooting sport I’ve done last year was Blowgun, have you ever tried Blow gunning they share the same trajectory ?

You keep mentioning consistency, if you rule out the shooter.
For the Cricket I have found the constancy to be related to the Hammer spring and the setting on the value spring retainer setting mainly.
The small O-ring inside of the reg also but rarely, because it will USUALLY leak out the AT before showing signs of inconstant velocities.
The trigger mainly the second stage setting of it must be smooth as glass and also possessing a break that is crisp and clean.
IMO you need to feel this slippage with every shot.

Notes that even when the speed is the same throughout the shot string, the accuracy has a sweet spot accuracy also.
The location of this sweet spot accuracy varies from gun to gun and usually the last 1-2 mags in the shot string.
I don’t have enough to come to a statistical concussion ,,,,, ,,,, ,, , yet.

BUT, I have found that the variations with the Hammer Spring, Valve Spring and Belleville Spring Washers in the reg are different in all the Crickets.
Meaning, I have found they have all 3 differences in tensional properties within each individual gun.
They have great to some to little effect on adjustments within each gun, they all differ in balancing.

Very hard to say and a tuff subjective subject to debate.

Without ruling the shooters abilities it’s a hard call in making.
The STEYR LG 110 is one contender in the hunting category.
FT and the Olympics are another thing and story, with it’s rules and limitations settings.

At the present moment IMO air guns are just beginning to blossom and in the up coming 2-7 years from now or so their my increase in accuracy buy 1/8″ @ 50 yards ,,,, ,, , maybe if and only if the shooters can handle it’s new abilities !

For me, they now are ready possess this potential for great accuracy, I just need to get real and keep trying to be just as well…….

And how exactly are you getting groups like that at 50 yards? For example, here is my setup:
1. outside and there is always a breeze of some type
2. front bipod, rear sandbag rest, shot from the ground – no benchrest
3. fill 230 bar, refill around 150
4. scope is Bushnell FFP 6 – 24×50 tactical, set at 20x
5. per Ernest’s instructions, clean often, usually after 150 shots, since barrel is polished

You can see I get pretty good results but not consistently.

Thanks

Below was from today. 90% humidity, 68 degrees, 40 yards, 5 shots, the yellow pin is 1/4 in diameter:

Then, who makes the most accurate PCP out of the box? FX? Ed? Daystate? Kalibrgun?

I owned a Cricket Standard that had been Ernest tuned. It was totally trouble free and required nothing more than a steady diet of air and pellets.

Get a room, you two. Can i joun the party later on, if i feel lonely and blue ??

I think Ville they are drunk. I hope they are anyways
