This is kind of a wood stock problem right? The synthetic stocks should not have this problem,
Or am I just under thinking it?
Mike

If your talking about swelling if it gets wet ……. I don’t think it would on the synthetic stocks.
But it could be that it might have this paper gap clearance to begin with, easy to check though.

No shit Greg, I never even considered that before, even though my door swells so badly in the monsoon season here. Is this the reason alot of guys do a fiberglass bed on their M14’s? I have an AR-10T and AR-15 so I never did remember why I was reading about bedding their stocks, it may be a completely different reason. Glad you caught it and it makes sense. When you originally posted the problem I remained silent as did most everyone else as we were probably all dumbfounded to ever hear of a Taipan “opening up” because you don’t ever really read about that happening. 😛

There’s a lot of talk discussions about fiberglass bedded stocks and free floating the barrel or not to.

But here in the PCP AG world we deal with HPA so much so that ATs do expand when filled.
So trying to minimize and isolate this physiological effect make sense to me.
In other words let it expand but give it room to with minimum influence to other parts of the action, like the barrel and scope rail.

By taking the AT off of the stock contact areas it will not have at least theses points to push on.
If so, it may pivot off of theses points in this case the stock mounting screws into the bottom of the frame.

Causing just enough distortion to bend the action with every shot taken as the diameter of the AT changes to cause POI shift/ing down range.
It don’t take much, a hair (.00315″) of a difference can move POI by 3/8″ at 50 yards, this is with a 16″ long AT and barrel.

Some frustrated with blame their shooting ability and or barrel and pellets.
Two way to check both ……. is to.
Let someone else shoot your gun.
Loosen up the stock bolt(s) and retest or better with caution (be mindful of the trigger/components) is to sandbag the action without the stock on and test shoot.

.

Found the problem ……
I want only the bottom of the frame to come in contact with the stock, I check and do this to ALL my BullPups !
On the Taipans don’t fully tighten one stock screw and then the other, but instead tighten each of the 2 a little at a time.
Edited: For the Taipans if you loosen up the 2 stock hexs the action should rock slightly up and down in the stock.
In other words when tightened, the frame bottom is the only contact point to the stock.

It was rainy last week and the foregrip must have gotten to wet and swelled up a bit.
It didn’t past the paper test so I sanded the foregrip weld down till it had a thick paper clearance between the AT and shock.
Sealed with clear lacquer coat ……

Top fill AT to check with a thick paper slides back and forth without getting stuck it’s a good clearance.

Mid frame area checked both sides, no swelling no sanding needed.

Back end also …..

:8: Grouping much better, much tighter now !!

Here’s the box of 9″ targets …… good for 100+ yarders !

Also my Veteran groups opened up about an inch at 60 yards …….. strange WTF ?

……….. I’m checking, be back.

I have a non air gunner friend/neighbor who comes over with gifts to see if I can let him pull the trigger on my AGs.
What he doesn’t realize it that I’m liable if he accidentally shoot someone. :4:

I keep changing the subject and then he gave me a box of old printed 1,000 targets from his job as a print designer.
I took that box and closed the door ………… a true story !

I’ve found the threading to be exactly the same as well, and the inside spring guide. So much so that when I first installed mine I just used calipers to check the depth of the factory before I removed it and screw Donny’s in to the same height so I didn’t have to mess with chrony strings right away. I did take one quick shot through the chrony and it was just about right there as you’d hope it would be, give or take 5-10 fps which would have happened even if I unscrewed the factory part and screwed it back into the same exact depth.

Nice not having to worry about those pins or rely on having them anymore for on-the-fly adjustments.

Got my Veteran Speed Dialer with lock nut in today from Donny.
Removed the OEM HST ……

If upon installation of the HST if it stops halfway in just back it out a bit and shake the gun while tightening, this prevents the end of hammer from getting hung up on.
The amount of treading is the same so if your HST was flush with the receiver, the new one from Donny would be flush also, chrony to check.
