Q:

virgin glock 17

well wife could prove we have been in CA long enough, so while i was in denmark she went and bought us a glock 17 which is full size 9mm for those not into the glock models i know i wasnt 3 months ago

we chose 9mm for several reasons

1 ammo is pretty cheap, compared to the larger calibers
2 grip is smaller than larger calibers, wife has very small hands and therefor has trouble holding pistols with fat grips
3 we are both inexperienced with handguns, and the 9mm is not as intimidating as the larger more powerfull.

glock was the choise when we asked around…we (I) wanted something reliabel, easy….glock certainly fits the bill

went to the range to rent one….and we liked it….also tried an XD40(i forget the makers namer ), what a pice of crap compared to the glock, might have been just that one, old and worn out rental….but it kept jamming up constantly….and we saw no accuracy with it.

any back to the glock….yesterday was the first time we had it out…i went to wallmart and grabbed a box of all the different ammo they had (blaser, remington, winchester)

and off to the range after she dropped her mom off at the airport….very excited, i loaded the mags with the plastic loader that came with the gun…ohh man when we rented that was not given to us and the 9th and 10th round was a thumb buster to get into the magazine, with the speed loader it was a breese, laid the 2 mags and pistol on the range table and told wife to give it a go

blam 1 shot at 12 feet right in the black….then she was shooting low for the next 3-4 shots and then it failed to eject…cleared the chamber, and sent her on the way….then it jammed, cleared it…2 more shots and it did it again…i wrote it off to that the gun is brand new and needed to settle in, or maybe the cheap ammo. more on that later….

next mag and it was my turn, 10 shots later which was over pretty fast, about 20 seconds keeping in line with the 2 seconds the range requires between shots for the most….2 hit outside in the 8 ring….rest was 9 and 10 ringers….no misfeeds no malfucktions

wifes turn, and it started to fuck up again (or rather she did) one shell failed to eject and turned around and the next cartridge actually got pushed into it….then it would only feed the round half, lige the casing edge got caught on something…..she gave up….i then took the mags she had been using, and filled it and fired 10 rounds….working perfectly, and then the next mag to eliminate that its not the mags fault.

gun is working just fine, its human error at fault here

when i was shooting it it was doing fine, when she was shooting it…not so….i told her to change grip, try to stiffen her arms a little more or a little less trying to see what was causing it….turns out sloppy wrists/arms as soon as she locked her elbows it was fine…not good for accuracy and the carteledge in her arms….but hey she now knew what was going wrong…and got shooting just fine….well except that after i told her not to let go of the trigger all the way she twice double rapid fired, resulting in range master complaining, but it was a fair mistake and he understood…funny enough too booths over theres was some serious rapid firing going on…like 10 shots in 3 secs…which the range master never said anything about….however when i was shooting with 2 second intervals he told me slow it down just a bit….must have been cops or something that was rapid firing…those bastards get away with everything

my self found that when i did what the instructor had told me i would shoot way low….as soon as i loosened up and got comfortable i was shooting right where i was aiming, but our range hour(about 90 minutes) was up. i had bought 300 rounds…there was 75 left when we went home hehe

shooting handguns surely is something totally different, very challinging i think, im used to be very accurate with my airgun rifles….and the find that i have trouble with a simple 9mm at 12-15 feet lol shooting groups of several inches, but man it is fun

vid is heavily edited !

ohh man i love shooting ! gonna be a busy fall.

this little fella is moving in on saturday, yay !!!!

can someone recomend a pair of good shooting glasses for a guy with glasses ? range master was not entirely ok with my regular narrow glasses but said it was for my own safety so he wouldnt keep me from shooting…but then agian a more anal range master might say no alltogether.

Nice job with the glock, made a good choice there..I wanted the 250sig as well, which is only available to law enforcement here in commiefornia..So I’m pinching pennies for the p229.

As to your question for pistol hunting in CA…Your new Taurus should be fine.

http://www.dfg.ca.gov/regulations/

quote :

c) Pistols and revolvers using centerfire cartridges with softnose or expanding projectiles may be used to take deer, bear, and wild pigs.

(d) Pistols and revolvers with minimum barrel lengths of 4 inches, using centerfire cartridges with softnose or expanding projectiles may be used to take elk and bighorn sheep.

ohh and the Sig 250 mentioned, is too complicated for california…so its not even available here 🙁

target masters….in milpitas

apparently they also have a happy hour….all weekdays 1300-1600 hours…half price ! so for 1 hour shooting it was 7.5$ including 5 targets…i gotta remember that

I wish there was a way to get the knockdown power of a .45, with the kick of a 9mm, and the price of .22 lr ammo.

Groups look good cyg, what range do you go to?

.22lr upper is awesome i love it cant recommend it enough !!!

wife is home sick today…so i took the opportunity, and tossed her the puppy and went to the gunstore/range

bought me a taurus raging bull in .44mag….and then went shooting….with the glock…have to wait untill the 21st to try the bull ….cant wait !

i have gotten some ammo home (great to live in a state where you can have ammo mail oredered) sportsmansguide had fiocchi on sale…so i bought 1000 rounds…

i had some blaser brass i wanted to test…blaser is about 350 fpe…the fiocchi’s is about 445 fpe …so quite a difference, and it showed…blaser did well i kept all but 1 shot in the 5.5″ black circle at 30+ feet….fiocchis…the first mag of 10 shots 4 where all over the place and 6 in the black….got much better as i got warmed up and got more lead firing…

about the .22 upper….
this is 200 shots with cci minimags, out of the advantage arms kit for the glock

first 100 at 30 feet, next 100 at 45 feet which opened up the group…freaking awesome ! it was like switching to a toy shooting the .22 omapred to the hot 9mm loads….have i mentioned i love that kit ?

Way cool! I didn’t know .22 LR uppers were available for the Glock.

😯 Takes me more time to unlock the keypad on my Crackberry!!! 😕

thanks that looks like a really cool gun, there seems to be some spring problems with it but the shooter said it was a range gun with somehwere between 20 and 40k shots through it !!! thats quite a bit !

so for us regular mortals i would belive it will be a fine gun, will need to go try it first though

took some video of chaning caliber on the glock from 9mm to .22lr and back again

AirTramp, you are exactly correct…it is SIG who has the P250 modular design. Check it out Cyg. My friend was impressed with the design.

Thanks AT!

Hi Steve, I suspect your friend saw the Sig P250 at the SHOT show instead of a HK. The P250 came out earlier this year and it’s the first completely modular handgun that I am aware of. The grip module is polymer but the frame and fire control (the real gun part with the serial no.) is all metal which is the part that stay. You can replace the grip from full size to compact, slide, barrel, clip and make different size or different calibre gun(s) out of that. In other words, you can have a 9mm, 357 sig, .40S&W or .45 with only one registration. You don’t even need to change the barrel going from a .357 to .40

Just like the Condor 😉

Cyg, I’ll ask my buddy who saw it at the shot show. He was impressed with it. If I forget, just remind me.

i have searched for every available moment, and cannot find that gun you mention SteveLA

Cyg, H&K just brought out a new modular pistol. My friend saw it at the SHOT show and liked it. Different legnth slides and different calibers can be mounted on the same frame. This is right up your alley. I did a quick search but only found the models for 2007. This modular design is a 2008 release. Check it out.

all considered….shootin the .22 is 6.6 cents vs 20 cent for the cheapest 9mm i have found(9mm also has tax), then it makes alot of sense….

the kit will pay for it self pretty quickly
2500 rnd (sportsmansguide), kit (with 2 extra mags) = 475
2500 rnd 9mm (wallmart remington umc 45$+tax for 250)=486

so their claim that it will earn it self in a matter of a couple of bricks of .22lr ammo is not entirely true….but after about 2200 rnds…it is cheaper to shoot. But i look at it this way….the kit is a gun accesorie…so i can still go buy me a new gun tomorrow, its actually 2 guns in one now….that makes it cool….plus once the investment has been done…the .22lr ammo is dirt cheap, so it makes it seem like its cheaper…except for the above calculations hehe

Sweet, thank you. I think i am gonna order one for the 1911.
