Q:

My California Condor .25 Cal Talon Tune special!!

Yup.. It finally showed up 😛
I placed a down payment of 50% about 12 weeks ago or so. No hurry. Here are some photos of Anthony’s service for those who have considered or wondered about his work. A couple of years ago Tony built me a Talon SS custom in .22 cal with a nice 21″ barrel. Since then I have cleaned the bore and replaced the O rings and basically enjoyed cleaning it and maintaining it in my armory safe. At that time I was so pleased I knew I would have this guy build me my Condor when I could afford it.
Well here it is from UPS to my bench.
It is what I expected too! A 1st class operation indeed! Take a peak…

He has done this a few times eh? 😯

Tony also turned me on to a cool sample of 43 grain Korean Eunjin Pellets as seen on the left paper here notice the upper 800’s! The lighter 25 grain .25 cal Kodiaks did well over 900fps with a 21″ barrel. Notice the group hole at 38 yards.

I placed a 16X Center Point scope on it. It feels nice and ballenced and it is plenty of scope for the $$! Good for what I am doing.
I have placed it together and I will be sighting it in very soon. Right now I just basically finsihed setting it up and making sure it feels right.

I went with the Walkonking Butt plate since I have that other cool custom butt plate on my Talon SS.
I am very pleased with it. It is adjustable and very confortable. Now I have the best of both worlds. they look good in my armory side by side.
There may come a time when they don’t exist any more.
Tony may not do this forever.
A special thanks to Talon Tunes and all the folks out here who have given me help with choosing the right pellet! I love the Kodiak in my Talon. Such a winner!

What can I say… California Condor “Im stoaked” 8)
That .25 cal with a 21″ barrel is the way to fly.

Well, if you don’t see any rabbits soon, maybe you can shoot something that shows how hard the slugs hit. A block of wood or an old frying pan or swinger targets work for me and usually make for good pictures and video!

It was the pellets and possibly pressure. I have not tried to get back up to 3000psi. At 2800-2900psi Jerry’s 7 rings are grouping nicely. About 1/4″ at 25 yards. When those things hit hit they sure are loud I thought I was going supersonic. I can only imagine what will happen to the rabbits.
Thanks for all the help,
Assman

Its not the same scope. I don’t think thats it though. I have changed scopes before and been able to zero them. I went with the Nikko Sterling 10-50×60 and medium height leapers mounts on tri-rail. I did just receive some of Jerrys slugs and am now trying to get rifle back together. I cant get the safety to stay in place. Also the breech is binding on something but everything looks good. Tony had some grease on the barrel should I put some on the barrel or o rings?
Thanks

Its been discussed already about the superdomes he was shooting and has no other ammo, he really needs some good ammo 1st, before he can determine any other factors.

quote Assman83:

Thanks for the info.
I am still having no luck, 200 shots later and no closer to being zeroed. As soon as I get a good grouping the next set is way off. Everything is left where Tony had set it. PW12, I didn’t touch the top hat, and pumping to same PSI each time. I don’t think they are clipping the shroud, path is clear, no noise, and no marks. This is exactly what was happening before I sent my gun in for a tune up. I am a much better shot than the results I am getting, but i just can’t figure it out. The only thing I can think of is if the pressure isn’t perfect each time but it has to be close. There were 2 shots that hardly made it to the target than bounced off. I can barely get 6″ groups at 30yds if I’m lucky. When I first got the gun from airforce dozens of shots would go through the same hole. Any help would be appreciated or if this should be in a different post or forum let me know.
Thanks

I just had to ask since I hate it when things don’t work for me but is the scope tony used to zero the weapon the same one you have on it now I just thought I would ask.

What kind of scope is it? what kind of mounts, and I don’t claim to know air rifles I am fairly new to them myself I just hadn’t heard any mention of scopes.

Just a few questions I have too has anyone recorded their performance before tuning and then after to include the same pellet, pressure, scope, hold, just wondering and I plan on doing that before sending mine out for tuning so I know how much I picked up in accuracy. Who knows I might be fine out of the box 🙂

AM,

If you still have shots going off at super low power you probably need to get that sorted out before you try the heavy slugs. I’d hate to hear about one jammed in the barrel. The accuracy issue is probably related to the power issue. If super domes are the only pellet you’ve tried, try some Kodiaks/Barracudas. If those are sprayed or bounce off the target occasionally, you still have a problem and the heavy slugs would probably make it worse or even get jammed on a low power shot.

I can understand bad accuracy from a particular pellet but I don’t think a pellet causes the low power shots. You probably want to start a thread describing the symptoms in full detail and ask for help from the experts here. I’m sure they can talk you through all the things to investigate and how to fix what you find.

Did a little more reading, and am hoping it’s the superdomes that were causing my problems. I have since ordered some of Jerry’s 7 ring slugs.

Thanks for the info.

129+ FPE, that is some serious power from a .25. It’s nice to hear that the slugs are doing well.

Looks as if the fun is all ahead of you. Here are some numbers I worked up on the crony today with my T/T .252 24″ poly barrel, full shroud Condor (49″ LOA)
200 bar fill 23.6gr round ball( #3 buckshot) good stuff out to 40 yds.
pw-3
shot 10-985.1 fps=58.87 fpe
shot 18-997=52.17fpe
shot 20-977.2
some where in all of that I was asked if the Condor will shoot mor then one at a time, well yes, if you use round ball. So,
pw-9 730fps=111.73fpe.

Jerry’s slugs
7 ring-70.9gr 190 bar fill
shot 1/pw 10 852.1=113,34 fpe
s2 844.3
s3 851.4
s4/pw 11 845.9=112.68 fpe
s5/pw12 839.4
s6/pw9 830
s7/pw8 823
s8/pw7 811.2
s8/pw10 807.5
s9/pw10 798.5=100.4 fpe 170 bar end.

9 ring-88.8gr 200 bar fill
pw 10 796.8fps =125.22 fpe
pw 13 809.6fps = 129.16 fpe
780.9
777.8
772.0
pw 10 787.0 =122.16 fpe
pw 9 762
pw 10 732.0
739.6 =107.98 fpe

At 70yrds. the 9 ring slugs have been giving me 1 1/2″ to 1 5/8″ pen. into dry edg-grain hard wood (red alder). Also thay mush out to .50 cal. Had one out of four go out to 9/16.
Looks as if I will stay with pw 3 for the round ball. Then up on to pw 10 for the 9 ring shurfire slugs, and put in my order for 1 K with Jerry on monday

I do like pumping lead, better then pumping iron.

Depends on where the top hat is set.

Mike

Hello,

I got a question. I just got back my fully tuned Condor, .25cal 24″ barrel. I was shooting 31gain rws super domes, should they be supersonic? I know I should have a chrony and I will get one. I just couldn’t wait. Any info would help. The tanks were labeled as shooting 42grain eunjins @ around 980fps, so I expected a loud crack from the superdomes but didn’t hear it. I am at 3000psi and Pw12 like the tank is labeled.

thanks for any info and sorry if this question should be posted elsewhere.

OK, I forgot to take pic’s. Too damed busy playing with it.
😳 😆
That Talon Tunes Shroud is FANTASTIC!!! 😀

Mike

get some 25 barracudas from Jeremey, good guy, check the for sale section.
Hopefully he has some left 😯 😯 😯 😯

Later-

SAW

I should have my gun in a few days, just got the tracking info. Can’t wait, been a boring summer without it.
I will now have the gun and no pellets since I went to .25cal. Nobody has heavy 25’s in stock. I am thinking 42 grain Eujins. I want power, accuracy and subsonic speeds, any suggestions?
