Q:

Hearing some pretty negative things about condor in blogs

I just ordered a condor with pump but the more I read about the condor in the pyramid air blog the more worried I am. I read the safety is bad as are tolerances, tanks, fps, trigger, and the list went on an on. I am aware that there are mods to fix or change all of these issues but if that’s really the case why not just get a more expensive gun to start off with? (just asking in case someone gets cute) I did see that a condor won a 100m competition but it really didn’t sound like it was a condor anymore with the mods. I have competed in many state pistol, rifle, competitions and in a national with best finish a 4th at a state with 1000 shooters from civilian and military (I was military) so I know my way around target shooting and want a powerful accurate rifle so am I in trouble on this one or not and I am hoping I didn’t make a mistake.

Hey good find I like it. Thanks for the info.

Found a nice one on a site that has the hogue grip, harris bipod, and the weaver adapter very reasonable too maybe someone might find something they need.

Thanks python I feel like I’m cramming for an exam with all the new information coming in right now and figured I would have some learning to do coming from powder and I was right.

I keep searching pyramid air and other sites for a harris bipod adapter with no luck anyone have one.

I think that might be one of the ones I mentioned to you, you have to drill and tap a hole to take a mounting-stud for it.

Thanks buzzcat, knifemaker, gramps was a brave guy.

I know the .25 will have more knockdown power but I have heard from 90% of the guys on here and all of the guys that work on them that the .22 will group better so shot placement will matter more to me than the extra knockdown power.

Does anyone know who makes an adapter for the condor to accept the harrris line of bipods I found a stout one I like that swivels so I can have better target acquisition without replanting my rig.

The .25 will group well enough for hunting. You won’t notice a difference unless you’re a target shooter.

My favorite Air Plane the P-51. my hats off to your Gran Dad!

Yep the .22 will do fine. Do it better? Sorry Buzz’y, I couldn’t disagree more. I’ve Fox and Coyote both with the .22 along with a crap load of F/C’s and Ferrel dogs. It does a fair job, but is a little week on the heavier stuff. The .25 hits a hell of a lot harder. and I do mean A hell of a lot! Especially with Jerry’s Kids Sure fire slugs. There just is no comparison. None!

… and this is why I like the .25 better.

You don’t think that’s going to give more knock down for big game?

So the .25 is better for the +70m shots? it makes sense but someone was telling me the .22 was the way to go for the long shots and I just took their word for it but they may have meant under optimal circumstances.

.25 is better for blowing more cash. New barrel, valve mod, etc… and .25 pellets are limited in their variety, hard to find, and expensive as hell when you do find ’em.

.22 will deliver everything you need at +70m, unless you’re trying to kill something about the size of a St Bernard, and even then, the .25 couldn’t do it either.

Go for .22 now, and worry about the .25 mod later. JMHO. 😉 😆

Ole Les makes a great 1911 and I sent the kimber stainless 2 in for NP3 coating it will be back on 10/29 according to robar.

I know the modern 1911s sure beat the ole rack weapons I had to compete with back in the day jeez those things were sloppy. The newer ones shoot themselves and more accurate too.

I think the one I drew at fort custer was my grandpas from WW2 lol.

These were truely brave men and the generation of WW2 was a different breed.

If I get the .25 barrel does it just mount up with no drilling or modifications to the breech and my .22 shroud wouldn’t work I am assuming I have to get a .25 shroud.

I just zeroed my uncles fal in for him wow it’s a beast and the whole family of hunters bring their weapons to me for zero lucky me and usually I have to clean them or fix something on them when I get them and family doesn’t care if you are busy lol.

I know what you mean. My EDC is a Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special .45 1911.

I’ve had my 18″ Talon SS Bbl. do as good as under 1/4″ at fifty yards. But is was a GOOD day! 😉

The .25 does a bit better at very long ranges. It reallly comes into its own at 100 yds. Especially with the winds here in Central Texas. But the .22 is more accurate up t 50 to 60 yards.

Love a .308 AR! 😀
I have a .308 FN-FAL here I like to play with. 😈

Mike

Thanks grit and I did get the condor and sent the one from pyramid air back and purchased mine from air hog. I was told by quite a few to fire this rifle for a while and see what it’s capable of before modifying which makes sense otherwise I wouldn’t know what the mods did to it.

I was also told that in .22 I would get the most accuracy over all the other calibers for distance and was given many reasons all of which make sense. I would rather have excellent shot placement over the slightly larger caliber .25 although I sure like the larger calibers like my carry pistol is a .45 kimber 1911 I love knockdown power and in a firefight precision isn’t always achieveable so I opt for the larger round in defense weapon.

I ended up getting tri-rail and carbon fiber tank with the fixins and am getting the big nikko as it’s called and now I have to justify the $450 price difference between the 2 nikkos and plan on ordering the mac1 mount with milled in droop so I don’t run out of adjustment on my scope.

Most of my competitive shooting was done open sight and my introduction to scopes was at benning and the scopes I used were way out of my price range so I don’t have a lot to compare to in the real world. Too bad uncle sam didn’t see fit to donate one to me 🙂

I have been out of shooting for 20 years and with the way things are going where I live and the 20% unemployment and crime I decided to rearm (not referring to pellet gun) that is just for varmint removal but renewed my CPL and bought the kimber and the AR in .308 things are pretty hairy by me combined with the new regime running things.

I feel comfortable with my purchase and it’s U.S. made which is good so we’ll see what it’s capable of and my next purchase will be from MAC1 his custom built gun.

The way I see it if I am shooting 3/8″ groups at 30m (which I’m told the condor can do if everything is right) it’s as accurate as anything else out there and it’s on me to perfect my skills with this rifle so the daystate may be more consistant but at 80m you still have to do your homework bottom line.

Oh yeah I want to thank everyone for being so helpful and PMs that I wore some guys out with questions thanks for the patience also mac1 answering question and air hog very helpful and generous with their time.

Someone chime in if I am wrong, but the condor is an entirely different animal than most of the other airguns out their. It has that “black rifle” appeal that immediately grabs your attention. I never shot a Daystate, but I have heard they are accurate, but do they pack the same punch as the condor??? If the answer is no, than your choice should be hands down, a condor. These things can be accurate and powerful at the same time. That is what convinced me to get one in addition to their charming good looks. In .25 cal you are talking some nice power indeed.

You said it lol cops and even the swat guys are not up to par with the competitive military shooters that I trained with. Most of the SWAT guys are shooting 100m or less though so big difference.

I am taking the advice of what seem to be very knowledgeable guys on the condor and going to shoot it for a while then send it out for mods so I can see what I have gained by having parts upgraded.

This was my first competition all the big dogs showed up I was in the new shooter class all open sights with rack .45 1911 model 5lb pull others had their special tricked out guns then .22 ruger rack weapon same deal all the shooters had tricked out guns and then M16 rack weapon and of course the tricked out guys were there so all rack weapons from the armory.

I had all my scores and planned on turning all my things over to my kids when I kicked the bucket and the grandkids could look all the stuff from my military days over but I dated a troubled girl and upon breakup she cut all pictures of my kids before the age of 12 and my UPS uniforms 🙂
