Q:

.25 Rifle build

I’ve decided to build a .25 rifle based around the Buckley bottle gun, mainly since I had a bottle left over from my talon days.

This is going to be my rock chuck gun, so power and accuracy are primary goals, hoping to push some of the mr hollowpoint pills to good velocity.

shooting will be done from rock jacks at ranges from 40 to 75+ yards.

I ordered a .25 LW barrel from tim1 and some alum. from online metals

I intend to shroud it ala marauder and hope to keep the noise down to a reasonable level

got a start on the receiver today, this will probably take way to long to complete (20 month old daughter, work, wife, starting school again, blah blah) but I will document it here as I make progress.

New Shop! oops forgot to secure the mill be fore using it, boy do they get moving 🙂

thanks cyg, it helps that my wife kicks me out of the house in the evening when it’s time to put the monkey to bed 😆

nice work i wish i had your energy to get off my fat ass and invent/make something

Machining on the receiver is complete, now to tap all the holes and smooth/finish the valve/hammer bore

here’s the bottle adapter and partially completed valve assembly

disassembled

receiver just about done, still need to cleanup the valve/hammer hole and tap the other holes

oh, and drill the exhaust port, need to get everything lined up before I do that though

Got the X and Y setup on the DRO now

Starting to look like something

Had to redo the receiver as I had made too many mistakes on the first one.
Everything is drilled and all the holes are bored – time to machine the profile, think I will make this one a bit more rounded and less “edgy”

after destroying a gear in my lathe doing internal threading I decided it was time to get off my ass and get the DRO hooked up.
Got one, the most important one for internal threading done

New Grip mount done, a bit longer 😳
just as it was starting the next to last pass as best I can tell the part moved or got pulled up and the 2 flute carbide end mill I was using dug in and stopped spinning, the table however didn’t stop and SNAP! goes a nice end mill 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿 good thing my shop is now separate from the house as I used some language that my young daughter shouldn’t be hearing just yet 😯

Had to finish cutting it out by hand.

machined a trigger from .25″ steel

the sear (for lack of a better word) is going to be cutout right next to it, that’s why I didn’t pull it out for the picture

sheesh I need to clean my phones camera lens, damn pocket lint
👿

getting ready for the deep bore

First half of the valve assemble done (test run in aluminum)

couple small changes and I now have room to mount the grip

(cheap rendering)

I was a little afraid of this, need to re-think/make my grip mount.
The mount points for the stock are to close to the grip – no room left for my hand.

Problem is the space behind the grip – bottle clearance.

finally got a chance to clean up the grip piece and cut it out

hey it fits!!

Should have an AR15 grip here shortly to see if it was machined correctly

Still looking for my freaking r8 drill chuck 👿 it’s got to be in a box somewhere 🙄

Got a bit more of the receiver milling done, also made a indicator so I can indicate on the bore and not the outside of the barrel when I go to crown it.
