Q:

257 Cast Bullet Convesation

Here’s a strange question- these TJ barrel liners- are they okay to be used as is? or do they need to be sleeved? Just wondering.

See?? That’s a better way to go! Mwahahahahah!!! 😈

I might get by with a souped up 22 for the short one and the long one in 25 on a condor frame 😀

I’m sure you dont NEED to go with a custom frame or anything- Hell, look at Ced’s Talondor .257… I do understand how you feel about wanting something small though- but to effectively use the .257 you need to have barrel length. There’s no two ways around it. Have you looked into building a compact .25? I know you don’t like pellets either, but you’re going to have to compromise somewhere to build what you want. Of course, you could just build two rifles… 😀 😆

I see TJ does have .224 barrels.

Dayotat, yeah I forgot the hammer won’t work 😳

Well, I’m going to have to rethink this thing. I have a new #257420 mould I’ve had for 2 yrs and need to build something to push it. I’ve been following you guys and watching your progress with the 25’s. At first I thought I might play around with a new barrel and hammer, but now see I need a complete rebuild.

Tofazfou, that’s the primary reason for my interest as Ive cast for over 30yrs and hate pellets. I see now I need to locate a frame and start from scratch. I would like to keep my short TSS but now see to shoot cast at any reasonable speed I need a much longer barrel.

Dyotat, question..since I have your hammer do you think I could do something with the TSS in 22 cal to keep it short? Does TJ have barrels with 0.224″ grooves? If so.. do you think its possible to push a 45-50 gr to 850-950 or so with a 14″ barrel? If so that might be a direction for the TSS and I’ll locate another frame for a 25.

Tofazfou, you and your long range shots are going to cost the hell out of me, either gun cost or divorce. It’s all your fault 😀

Ced, I’ve already ordered one of Doug’s valves for my .257 build!! I can’t wait to start on the body… I need to get this project on the road! I’ll need to talk to him about his barrel mounted hammer (I think that’s what it’s called)… 😈 😈 😈 :8:

Yep,

Time for you guys to buy Dougs valves and TJ barrels and cast for yourselves. Nothing like being independent and NOT having to rely on other folks.

Can’t wait to hear how they shoot Doug. I’m tuned in to this one.

Hammer weight is fine but TJ barrels are smaller OD so it won’t work on the barrel.

He gets that fps with a lighter bullet. Right now I have a 24″ .25 TJ barrel gun I built for a customer. It is shooting my 70 gr LBT custom bullet in the 940’s with 3100 psi fill. Turn it down to 920’s and I get 10 shoots over 900 fps with 62 ci tank.

I had the mold made to replace Jerry’s slugs. It looks good and chrony’s good. I just need to go out and test for accuracy.

There is no .25 slugs avail that shoot good anymore.

Dyotat100,

What hammer weight are you using on the 25’s? I have a 95-100 gm barrel rider that you made me for my stock 25 TSS and have never used it. I would also like to upgrade but to a TJ barrel (20″) and use my standard tank.

I just want to get around 950 fps with a cast bullet (like knife maker) and still be able to make it quite if possible.

JD

Doug was saying that he can re-work a JDS reg and have a 3200 psi output. Sweet, sweet. I keep seeing the same answer from different people… 68 cu in 4500 psi tank with a JDS airman reg set to 3200 psi output, hooked up to a factory (or 53 cu in 3k) tank via 4500 psi coiled remote line is good to go.

As long as you reg. the 4500psi tank down to 3200, you should be fine. Just put 3200 from the 4500 directly into the 3000 Psi Tank.

Knife

Well I was thinking of tethering a 68 or 80 cu in 4500 psi tank and using the 53 cu in tank as a sort of pre-chamber. My goal is to get more air for better consistency and shots. Thoughts?

You want to tether a larger tank to it? The best way it with a adjustable regulator setup the Joe B sells. That’s what I have so I can tether 3 guns off a 88 cf scba tank. I can adjust the out put for different setups. I run. The haley at 3600-3800 and the condors at 3000-3200.

Ah… why did I think they were 4500 psi?! Anyway. Well, with that what are y’alls thoughts on using a paintball 4500psi rated remote line to tether a larger tank with a JDS Airman valve (tested and set by doug) ? Would this work?
