Air Arms Rifles: Which one do you have experience with
I have noticed that many own AA rifles, or have experience with them. Which one do you own, (Rob probably has a safe dedicated to AA airguns 😀 ). The XTRA FAC has great stats but it is so long at 44 inches. The carbine is sexy at 35″ and 5 lbs.. The Classic is a good compromise but is louder. So, if you don’t mind me asking, which do you own, or have owned, and what do you think of it? Also what do you do with it? (Look at it, hunt, target, etc..)

Wow Steve, that is a sweet rig…. The 410 is definately eye candy and
with the Walnut stock, well it is just that much more…
The only thing I would mention about the S410 is the shroud is not all that effective. I found mine too loud to shoot in the back yard because my chicken loving neighbors tend to get upset very easily.
I wouldn’t call it “quiet” but rather “medium” in sound. Probably fine for most people, unless you really need serious quiet.
You can add a nice piece on the end, but it’s going to add 6″ to 7″ in length. The result would be close to dead silent.
I wish someone made an electronic air release, to replace hammers, so there would be absolutely zero sound.

I’ve owned an AA S410 Xtra FAC bolt model and traded it for the new S400 Xtra FAC Sidelever with the new 20mm shroud and power adjuster, both .22.
The best PCPs I’ve owned, definitely a keeper.
Also considering in buying a new S400 Classic .177 for FT and paper shooting. I use mostly the FAC for long range shooting and bird hunting.

It has a Classic tube, a new trigger and I also made a new tube end cap with Foster male plug (not shown). Next month I’ll finish a stock with some ideas from the GOL Sniper stocks. And I’m currently building my own electronic valve airgun 😆
The new trigger blade it’s a prototype version, since that I’ve improved the design and built 8 to sell.
BTW, I advise anyone looking for tubes to machine their own projects to try AA tubes, easy to acquire and very reliable, good volume of air available in 3 sizes of lenght 300, 400 and 520mm, OD 1.25″(31.75mm).
Concluding, I assure you, you won’t regret buying any S4x0 version, just be careful picking up the one that suit you best. Have you thought of a shrouded S400 Classic? 😉

Hi BridHunter, you sound like another satisfied AA S410 owner. 😀 I’m not surprised…mine shoots well also, (there’s a pic of it back a few pages). I don’t like the legnth or weight of my ERB, but I do like the power and shot count as afforded by the longer air tank. The accuracy seems to be excellent with any model. This must owed to the Lothar Walther bbl and great trigger.
Maybe someday I will break down and buy an AA S410 Carbine. Several TAG members have them and like them alot. We’ll see 😀
I have a .22 s410 extra FAC sidelever in walnut thumbhole. Its a really great gun with excellent accuracy. The thumbhole stock fits my hands perfectly. Its not my primary shooter right now tho, but I will definetly be keeping it for others when we go shooting. I’m 6’1″ and dont mind the weight or length, but I could see how for some it would be bulky.

I started with an AA “Firepower” same as the “Jackel” but with an auto load tube system,it was increadibly pellet fussy as the loading mech would jam almost constantly 🙄
But I only got realy serious about shooting when I bought my S300,this gun was a real pellet on pellet rifle,It had no problem shooting FT and was always way better than I was,but it was quite long,
I got the 410 TDR (in .22) and its a real light weight .. but only when I carry it as its prolly the most accurate rifle I own (only the FX Verminator comes close)
Although the most enjoyable rifles for me are my Skans,the AA TDR is a carry all day gun that I don’t think has ever let me down (apart from the index post braking once 🙄 😉 )

Hi James, welcome to the forum…or madhouse as some call it 😀 This thread turned out to be a great one with many experienced people contributing. I have no experience with the TDR, but it looks like it would fill a niche for a compact and portable airgun…best of all, it’s made by Air Arms.
There are volumes of information available here on the TAG. Our friends here respond best to straight forward questions. Don’t be afraid to ask, but be forewarned that some of the responses may not be what you were expecting. Great wisdom is often traded from exchanges that were not what you were expecting. I must have thick skin, or head, as I am amused without being offended by they more colorful opinions of my fellow TAG members. As recently stated, we have some of the coolest avatars…I’m sure that you have noticed for yourself.
Welcome again, enjoy your airgunning journey. Through this site, it will take you places that you never meant to go, but you will enjoy the journey and the final destination…where ever that is. 😀
Just signed up after reading this thread and a few others related to the PCP’s… (BTW: This forum seems to be the most technical in regards to PCP airguns…)
I have a S410 TDR in .22, modified with a Carbine air cylinder and the firing pot turned out to give me about 750fps with 14.5gr Superdomes. I am looking for more power and wouldn’t mind sacrificing shot count down to maybe 20-30 good ones, currently I get 40 shots between 725fps and 750 without changing parts or drilling out the port transfer hole in the valve body. I do believe Boris has on order a few parts for me to boost up the velocities but will call to reverify if he is open this week. (I don’t think he bills until he ships and I ordered a bit from him initially.) (BKL extension medium rings and Hawke 2-7×32 scope)
I have a S410ERB Xtra FAC SL .177 as well in a very nice AA thumbhole walnut stock, the only mods would be a MPR trigger and a few RC machine mags. An excellent shooter but haven’t shot at any distances over 10m yet. I really like the MPR trigger but I dislike that the trigger pad is now moved further up which means a stretch or change of grip to get a comfy trigger finger. Something to think about for those thinking of upgrading… (Sportsmatch adjustable rings, Hawke Airmax 4-12×40 scope)
For support I have an assortment of JSB pellets, Hills pump with dripac, Airhog 88cf tank. I just ordered a bunch of fittings/plugs and HPA microbore hoses from BEST in the UK. If this TDR works out as well as I hope and get my Form 1 approved to make it quieter, a Warthog tank will be added to the kit unless something similar is available for less?
It was a tossup at first between the Falcon and the AA, decided on the AA due to the abundance of them running around… And then purchased the .22 TDR as a discreet package for hunting use, AA was naturally the brand preference due to my experience with the ERB.

Hi Mam…Thanks! 😀 I had ordered this rifle for my friend who didn’t want his wife to know about it. He had wanted a humbhole stock, but this is what was in the box. When I opened it, I thought crap he isn’t going to like this and I’ll have to return it. But after looking at it for a few minutes I realized just how beautiful it is. I called him and had him come look at it. He agreed with me and kept it. A year later it became mine. Too cool! 😀
