Air Arms Rifles: Which one do you have experience with
I have noticed that many own AA rifles, or have experience with them. Which one do you own, (Rob probably has a safe dedicated to AA airguns 😀 ). The XTRA FAC has great stats but it is so long at 44 inches. The carbine is sexy at 35″ and 5 lbs.. The Classic is a good compromise but is louder. So, if you don’t mind me asking, which do you own, or have owned, and what do you think of it? Also what do you do with it? (Look at it, hunt, target, etc..)

In my classic I get 850’s w/ kodiaks and 950’s with CP’s. Good out to 100yds. no problem
Adam, what is “full power” for your gun? I see FPE, but I also see conflicting FPS estimates. What do they really do in FPS with CP’s, JSB’s, etc.? Which pellets do they like best, or are they not picky?
Y, that was great hunt; thanks for sharing the pic. I seem to remember another post where you took several tree rats in rapid succession with your S410. Great shooting. Thanks for the opinion too. (No, they won’t discount AA, AF guns).
Thanks to all of you for sharing. I find the carbine very sexy. However, when I’m going to spend $1000+, I want the most power possible. I have also read that the Classic is louder than the others. That makes sense with the ERB, but not with the carbine. I figure that they have built extra sound management into the carbine’s shroud.
The thought crossed my mind to order one of each. Try them out, then keep the one that fits me the best. The next thought was explaining to my wife why there’s $3000 on the credit card for airguns 😳 Reality check!
Its funny that you ask.. I just got home from a hunting trip with mine. I have the Xtra Side Lever, Adjustable Power with the Beech stock. I ordered it from Pyramidair and was able to use their 10% coupon – not sure if they still allow that and it arrived within a week without a hitch
I don’t mind the length – as said by others it’s shorter than a shrouded Condor which I used to own – The Classic does sound attractive, but when you think about it, its only a difference of 3 inches so the added shot count and power outweigh the extra length for me, plus I’m over 6 foot tall so I don’t notice the extra forward weight as much as a short shooter with a smaller arm span might.
I shoot on high power when I’m out in the woods with it for 31+ fpe, and middle setting on the dial when I’m shooting in my Yard which gives about 12-14 fpe.
If I was to do it all again I’d get the exact same rifle even after having shot a Rapid, BSA S-10 and several other high end PCP’s.
The only “stumbling point” I see with these guns is figuring out which length suits you….

I have the classic and find it perfect length for field work. It is 3″ longer then the carbine and 3″ less then the ERB.
I have the non adjustable bolt model which is fine with me because I only am intereseted in full power.
I got mine from Pomona Airguns and drove over and picked it up. I get 40 shots and it is laser beam accurate.
I don’t find S410 long at all since my Condor is 49.5″
I have one of the older .177 S400E Xtra FAC. Yes, it’s long, especially when you’re used to shooting a Talon length rifle, but it’s no longer than my first adult air gun, a Gamo CFX. This is the bolt action, non adjustable power version, CPH’s average around 980 fps for about 24 fpe, Eun Jins will do mid to high 800’s for around 27 fpe. I mostly shoot from a bench with just a front rest, with CPH’s at 30 yards, 5 shot groups in one ragged hole are becoming the norm. Paint balls are no challenge at this range, about the only reason I miss is shooting past my fill point or a bad pellet. I had it up for sale to help finance the FX Cyclone I have coming, but changed my mind, it just shoots too damn good. Oh, the trigger is outstanding, and with the fully shrouded barrel, the pellet strike is louder than the gun firing. Get one, you won’t be sorry. So far I’ve only used it to nail sparrows and black birds raiding my chicken feeder, won’t have a chance to try bigger game ’til next year now. Wicked SMACK! when it hits, and the feathers really fly. Head shots don’t leave much head left 😈 . Later.
