Air Arms Rifles: Which one do you have experience with
I have noticed that many own AA rifles, or have experience with them. Which one do you own, (Rob probably has a safe dedicated to AA airguns 😀 ). The XTRA FAC has great stats but it is so long at 44 inches. The carbine is sexy at 35″ and 5 lbs.. The Classic is a good compromise but is louder. So, if you don’t mind me asking, which do you own, or have owned, and what do you think of it? Also what do you do with it? (Look at it, hunt, target, etc..)

Yes Rob, it is the gold trigger…or anodized gold color. But yes it is sharp! I regard it as a functional work of art. I’m trying to warm up to its weight and legnth. Going from the TSS to the ERB is quite a difference. But then again the S410 is going to be my long range air rifle.
I need to go find a place with some distance to play with it. The immediate problem is that with the current heat wave and the associated brush fires, I am not comfortable shooting in some of the spots that I might normally use. The last thing I need is to start a brush fire or be accused of starting a fire. The hills are just so dry. It’s like standing in a box of matches. So the 60 feet from one side of my property to the other is going to have to do for now.

The full size FAC ERB S410 is relatively quiet on full power. I’d say that it is just a little bit noisier than my TSS with baffles. It is not a bang at all. It gets quieter as you turn down the power. Mine is shooting a 16 grain pellet at 983 fps at the muzzle. On 1/2 power it spits them out at 700fps. That’s with a 2700 psi fill. My only complaint is that it is long and heavy. But the stock is beautiful and the power and accuracy are very good out of the box.
The carbine is very sexy and wieldy but benefits from a LDC and I hear that the hot tip is to install an air resivoir from a classic…more shots per fill. This thread details the advantages and differences very well thanks to many of the members who posted their experiences with the 410 series and a few others that were worth speaking of.

410’s are shrouded
max power of the long rifle is about 34 fpe, carbine is about 28…SS is about 26 stock (jsb 16 grain)
it does not have a loud bang….its not noiseless….but itsbackyard friendly…and if you need less noise you can turn down the power…around 12 fpe the rifle is really quiet
walnut sticks are usually pretty….beech is boring (but cheaper)

My question is how quiet is it at full power compared to a stock Talon SS, or does it have the loud “BANG” that a non shrouded Condor does?
I’m not sure if I’ve read correctly but is the barrel on you S410 shrouded?

According to the website, your buddies gun stock may have been made from “Fiddle Back Maple” which is the wood used for the 410 stock I posted.
This is the guy that made the stock. He doesn’t mention prices on his web site… you have to call him. I’m thinking if your afraid to call for the price, you can’t afford it lol. That stock probably costs as much as a Marauder, if not more. I have to get back to work before I can consider such a thing anyway at this point. That can come later, I’m quite happy with what I have now, for sure. Dave G’s website:
Wow Saug, That’s beautiful. I used to have a friend who had a kentucky rifle with the same type of wood. It hung over his fireplace.
I’d attach a sling stud to a AA walnut thumbhole, but I’m looking a custom stocks which cost alot more. I’d probably think twice before drilling into this lol, but at the same time I’d hate even more to have to lay a gun down on it’s side all the time with a stock like this. I’d probably get one of those gun cradles for it. I forget who makes this particular stock, but I think it’s beautiful.
Right on Saug! But would you screw that bipod onto a walnut stock, or would you use a sand bag?
Yeah i thought about the Rapid myself some time ago, with all the stories, it just sounds to iffy, and all that money… it’s just out of my budget. It seems some here are sitting on the fence about going AA. For those people, I really can’t see how you could go wrong doing it. I did have a couple issues with mine, a faulty mag that wouldn’t index every time, and a valve that had a hard time opening correctly at recommended fill pressures, but thanks to PAG Steve it’s all good now, and few of these guns seems to have the same problems.
This rifle shoots so good, I haven’t even been looking at other guns lately. If I invest in anything else, it will probably be a really nice custom thumbhole stock for it. For me, this gun does everything I need. Good power, very quiet, very accurate, and the classic lines look great out of the box.
After Steve did some valve work on it, it shoots JSB 15.9 gr at 1000+ fps full power. That’s more than I need, but I like to know the power is there, and of course you can always dial it down. I did these groups yesterday @ 30. I’ve made smaller holes at the same distance, but these aren’t bad.
So with the Harris bipod, and the $300.00 scope, the total is about $1,400, still alot for me, but I could swing it. I took a new photo of it a few days ago. It’s a total keeper!
