Air rifle power?
Hello everyone. This is my first post in this forum so I hope you dont flame me for it. Why do many here want to hot rod an air rifle? I have enjoyed air rifles for 35 years or so and I just dont see the point. My reason for enjoying them is because they are quiet, (some more than others) relatively safe, no real long range distance threat or while shooting up in the air at birds and varmits. The diabolo pellet design slows rapidly and is soft to resist ricochet. They are also not accurate at speeds near the sound barrier so why do so many try to make a .22LR out of them? If I need more power or longer range I reach for my .17 HMR. Way more accurate out to 150 yards and more FPE with a 17 grain bullet. I know to each his own but why try to reinvent the wheel. If you want .22 power and the hazards that come with it pick up a .22.

RC, you’ve got to admit one thing…even outrageous bullshit, eloquently enough worded, can possess the ring of truth. Evidence the efforts of Barack Obama, and Rahm Emanuel…two fine, honest, trustworthy politicians.

I like RS have also shot many diferent suppressed weapons. I had for 30 years a suppressed Ruger that was the 2nd quietest one that I had heard. The quietest was a full shroud on a 541 Remington with subsonic ammo.
They are never fully quiet, and game do hear the bullet pass by. I have killed litteraly hundreds of animals from deer down to ground squirrels with mine, it was quiet, but it was also big, 1 1/8th x 8 inches long, vented barrel as RS described and put out mini mags at 950.
RS is correct on what he says, some you others might want to invest in a laxative.

1st off just to clear the air a bit I go back decades in the Class III world
shot everything from Original Maxim “silencers”, OSS Suppressed HD Military .22s, SOE Welrods, all the way up to the best of Daters and AWCs work
NOTHING is “silent”…best you can do with a firearm is still in the 100db range and That’s using a long barreled .22 bolt action with the BEST of moderators with sub sonic loads
Every so often some fuckwit Class II will build up a rig in .22 with enormous volume to win various db comps staged at KCR and SAR. There used to be one asshat out of the Ozarks that was building stupid shit in the quest for being able to advertise he had the most silent guns
Yeah, like 3” integrated moderators close to 4′ long that used barrels ported directly ahead of the chamber with sub sonics…he STILL barely got below 90Db and was likely pushing slugs around 600FPS due to the stupid barrel porting
another words, he would have been money ahead to slap a TKO shroud on a sucky little Crosman 2240 pistol.
I’ll share the reason why I like AGs
because I don’t need no damn permission slip from my local CLEO and ATFE to own them and they are as or more quiet than a .22 powderburner
nor do I have to petition a month or more ahead of time to take them out of state
nor do I have to pay stupid money for highly specialized ammo…{btw, Aguila is junk}
Nor do I need get my prints taken, photo snapped or pay the $200.00 transfer tax
Shit, in quite a few States there is no legal way to own a moderated firearm and even in States that do allow possession in many jurisdictions you will be hard pressed to find a CLEO to sign off on your Form 4
the differences are so totally Apples and Oranges it is dumb as a brick to even try to compare moderated AGs to moderated firearms
that dog only hunts if you live somewhere where both are readily available and the local Sheriff or Chief of Police will sign your form 4
