Q:

Another Importer of Raptor Compressor

Good find Jamie! $1000 plus shipping makes this more viable. They appear identical but w/o the Raptor name and packaging on them and an $800 markup. It appears he gets up to the 20 min factory order and then orders them direct. AOA won’t be able to get a monopoly from China.

I know everyone wants to see how these things are working out…. Ive been on the fence on buying one of these for a while.

like everyone else i wasn’t willing to take the plunge just yet… Ideally would like to see how these work over time and C how the company handles issues. There doesn’t seem to be a lot out of info out there so i been doing some fishing..

I got another email today from Raptor i had asked about the parts availability and who’s gonna fix these and shipping involved and so on and so on….

I was told that they have a Very good supply of parts on Hand at raptor to take care of any issues.

He also said that they will work with customers if an issue arises to try and not have to send it in… They plan on making videos to do the repairs.

If parts are needed AOA will get them out to the customers.

AOA gets the calls and helps people with simple problems or just explains things. If its something over there head then Raptor will step in.

If the unit has to be shipped back to AOA for repair then Raptor pneumatics will either Fix it there at AOA if its something easy or bring it back to their shop and fix it

They said that they have no desire to sell and not care about the customers. they want this to be a good product. And will stand behind it in the event that an issue does arise

they said that they’ve had a few minor issues and that they had the manufacture make some changes. So sounds like they are tweaking it to make better.

also the scuba add-on won’t be forced onto everyone so to keep the cost down. but sounds like a good option for those that like to dive also.

I think that the only thing left is to see how they hold up and perform. i may take the plunge soon. My one concern with my F8 is the lack of moisture filter on the high side.

Having everything in one package does sound good. Maybe when some more come in ill pick one up and see just how they do.

Thanks for the info. Secoda, it’s nice to hear someone, has a few hours on one. I have never seen something this big to the air gunners hit the market and such little info. on the net from users. Supposedly AoA sold out of their first batch, don’t know how many that was, but you would think some of those users would be telling us how it’s working. I can only think of two reasons why we are not hearing more details. 1st would be if the users are having problems and are trying to get their unit repaired with out pissing off the dealers by posting problems. 2nd maybe not many units sold to customers. Maybe the first shipment to AoA was small and those got passed around to different dealers and those units haven’t been sold.
I am just speculating, maybe every one is like me and want to make sure the water is safe before jumping in.

I emailed Alvaro Lopez. He is the Mexican dealer for the Raptors. His has about 30 hours and is doing fine. He reported that one someone bought from him was damaged in shipping and when the guy turned it on the first time it fried the electronics. AOA is repairing under warranty and returning. They may have to beef up the component infrastructure to stand up to rough handling in shipping.

No questions just statements? It’s the title of my post and it’s the subject line of your reply. We are being asked to rely on an unknown U.S. importer with no information about them. Dr. Steele is the only post I’ve seen on this forum from someone who has used this compressor, and his shut down and poured out coolant on the first fill. AofA will sell a bunch of these, but if they start getting service returns in quantity AofA will drop them the same way they dropped the FX compressors in years past. They will honor the one year warranty, but if they do drop them every owner is SOL after that. Even with a warranty it’s an expensive, heavy item to ship. For me it would be roughly $200 at today’s freight rates, and rates will only go up. Since we are relying on Raptor Pneumatics, isn’t it fair to want to know if they are substantial? I seriously question that any of the specification changes that are discussed in the glowing yellow forum post by Jaime in MA are actually made by Raptor Pnuematics. I think the modifications are done by the Chinese manufacturer for Raptor in order for Raptor to distinguish themselves from the same compressors the Chinese manufacturer sells for $500 apiece wholesale. A black box, food grade lubricant, and deluxe coolant are all nice, but it’s cosmetic. If we knew some facts and background about Raptor Pneumatics, knew these compressors hold up over time, and have them priced at double rather than four times manufacturer cost, I would not be asking any questions.

They are trying to expand to the other markets but it is on our backs. I bet they keep both options.

Hopefully they change their mind and include this at the same price, if not I think it’s getting to much money for a china made compressor.

I called AoA earlier this week about the raptor, they said it is not breathable air on the current model. But the company that imports them was working on a add on filter that would make it breathable. They was guessing this would be app. another $300 add on feature.

I got word that the raptor will be able to be used for scuba. They said that they were working on it. I’m not sure if the current ones are breathable but, he said they would be soon.

Ok, it’s about time for me to get a starter compressor ain’t got the bucks for a raptor. Where is that sea of used shoebox comps for sale? Cme on guys, take a leap of faith and sel me your useless shoebox for $300….

I see no questions and only statements. 😕 Everyone is pretty much wait and see but of course that means there are very few out there being used so there may be no record to read about. The Chinese units are reworked by a US company so we are really reliant on two companies surviving instead of just one plus the two or three dealers that carry them. The Chinese made medical compressors have been around a long time and are proven in general but we don’t know about this particular company. At this point I would ask AOA for a buy back guarantee and the warranty should be two years to be comparable to the other faster and more expensive compressors.

I’ve read this entire thread and have several questions to raise about the Raptor compressor and Raptor Pneumatics. I’ve owned PCP’s for over a decade and during that time I’ve seen AofA sell the FX compressor as well as another even shorter shelf life PCP compressor. No one questions FX as a reputable company, but the FX compressor came and went because it was a PITA to ship in for repairs due to its weight and size. Ironically, it weighed and was about the same physical size as the Raptor Pneumatics compressor. It sold for about $800 and could only fill airguns, not tanks. When long term reliability problems arose combined with the cost to ship it for service, it was dropped by AofA and FX quit manufacturing them. While the Raptor Pneumatics unit sounds great, I am skeptical of a Chinese manufactured machine that wholesales for $500 apiece being sold by ANY importer until its long term reliability is established.

I am curious to know more about Raptor Pneumatics. All I see is “email Todd Del Orio” or a link to the yellow forum thread posted by Jaime in MA. The yellow forum post sounds like lipstick on a pig hype. That doesn’t make it fact. I cannot find any public record of Raptor Pneumatics. My suspicion is is that it’s a less than a year old LLC with very few if any employees and could just be a shell corporation to import this unit from China. One year warranties won’t help buyers if reliability and quality control issues cause AofA to drop these if they break down or have quality control issues. Remember guys, this isn’t Bauer from Germany, this is Gingxang from China. I won’t spend $1800 plus another $100 or more for shipping, to find that after a year I’m screwed if it stops working. If it needs service, add another $200 round trip just for shipping. I want to know more than just a drink the Kool Aid endorsement in a yellow forum post. So the yellow link says they made the case nicer looking, they put in food grade lubricant, and they give a one year warranty. Let’s see some concrete facts about Raptor Pneumatics. I can’t find out anything about them. I suspect if we knew, the enthusiasm for this $500 wholesale per unit, made in China compressor would be tempered a bit.

I would not sell an F8 plus the 1st stage compressor and water filter to buy one. Its fine. On a new purchase, though, it is a no brainer.

I would like to buy one but I can’t see selling my f8 prolly at a loss and then shelling out the rest. The f8 does good. And I bet tom will be doing something for high side moisture control soon he’s gonna have to do something

Looks like everyone’s gonna be buying raptor’s now. TED loves it so everyone else has to go buy one. It looks like its Time for the guys that couldn’t Afford As shoebox to buy one now that they will be selling cheap

Seems to be the cats meow to PCP compressors. About the perfect size for the home PCP hobbyist. Unless Ted is hiding some big problems the F8 is in real trouble.
