Any interest in a group buy for custom bullet molds?
I recently talked to Jerry about copying the surefire design since he will no longer be making slugs. I know that NOE makes custom moulds of 15 or more. I am still waiting to hear back from Gary Barnes who Jerry said actually designed them, With his OK, I figured we could move foward if there is enough interest. So what do you guys think ?

Thanks for making that reference post,I have been checking it out. I am planning on sending Eric one of my 420 molds. I guess Ill have to get a .257 next.I like the idea of the .251 being able to shoot pellets as well as slugs but it seems there is more slugs available in .257.
For Eric’s HP MOLD SERVICE…….please check out the 257 PAGE. Eric’s direct link is right there………………
It is but it is .257 and is to big for .25. Anything .257 is not going to size down to .251 good. My 420 mold drops at around .260″ so you are trying to remove .009″ to shoot it in .25. The NOE doesn’t look like the grooves are that deep so it would be like shoot a smooth slug with no drive bands.
The 420 mold can be sized down but now the bullet has more bullet touching the barrel. They work good in the TJ’s .25 barrel.
I made my own sizer and if the alox lube is used and let dry for a few hours it will work.
I was under the impression that the 257420 is a good bullet mold. Not so ? And what kind of accuracy are you guys trying for or what is considered unacceptable?
As far as I know there isn’t a off the self mold that works for .25.
I tried both the slugs hunter supply offers for .25 and the quality isn’t there. They also shoot worst than they look.
My slug is just something I came up with. It looks similar to the Lyman 257420. Veral will make another one for anyone that wants one. I’m going to send him some more samples and get back on the list to get another 4 hole made a little different with smaller drive bands like a 7 rings.
Well if LBT makes one off molds then there is no need for a group buy. Plus I agree with Doug that if NOE didnt make the 15 right Id be in real trouble. Doug,Is the bullet your showing a custom or a stock mold ? My reason for wanting the surefire design slug is they are proven in both my barrels and since I wont have a place to shoot until late spring/early summer at best I figured I could cast known good slugs instead of wasting time on unknown designs. No problem with trying out some other molds,Ive ordered a few that have had good reviews here but only the ones that others have given feedback on. I had no interest in casting but the prices I see some guys asking for slugs makes BP ammo look good.I think some guys figure they can make 6 figures casting bullets,Maybe they can but not off me. Thanks for the input guys,I have learned alot here.
It was the first hundred or so out of the mold. The new one are real good out of the mold and will have to see how they do.
Just sent some to chances to see how they shoot out of his unsized choke less LW barrel.
we will see how they shoot out of a stock airforce 24″ choked LW barrel
Shoots them good. I went out and was shooting 100-110 yards. Had a couple here and there that would vary left or right a couple of inches.

Dyotat,
So how do those new LBT, .25s shoot out of the TJ’s? Thanks for all your work!
Lead bullet technology(lbt molds) 208-267-3588. He doesn’t do hollow points. You would have to send it to Erik I. Oregon to have that done. You will have to Google him. Hollow point mold conversions or something like that.
How do we get ahold of “Veral” to discuss what we want/need/is possible?

Well! so that other member spoke of spoke up! 😆
Look guys, the mold that Dyotat has is very similar to the surefire, with a better nose and therefore a better BC. Why back up to a lesser design. The biggest difference isthat the surefire has MORE driving bands which equals more fricton, and basically a wadcutter tip. Not exactly cutting edge for a rifle.
Now this is not to slight Jerry, Or Barns. It’s just that the design has now been improved. And Doug is offering for you to try it. Why go backwards if you don’t have to.
For those of you that dont’ know, I was one of the Bata testers for the Surefires, and still have the tighest recorded groups shot with them. But, and this is a “BIG BUT, They don’t hold a candle to the NOE bullets, nor will they shoot better than the Bullet Doug (Dyotat), is showing you.
That was a very nice offer by Dyotat. If I were you, I would at least give it a shot.
Veril Smith also makes several lighter bullets for the .25 already. 😉 Just saying! 😀 I have several examples here that range from 90 to 55 grains.
Knife
Id be in for this too! 🙂 Iv wanted to give this a try so, count me in!

Another member was sizing that bullet down to .251, I didn’t read any further to see results of how well it did
