I don’t plink with the 30 cal like I do the .177 and .22s. It’s too much of a cannon relatively speaking not too mention pellet cost to shoot thousands of 30 cal pellets in my backyard. I would be real happy if it gets 5k shots on a stem.

Thanks. That’s my worry about the stem life. 1k- 2k rds is not enough. but 50 raccoons is more than enough. :biggrinn:

I have about 2000 shots on the very first valve stem on my 30 Std Edgun. I set it at 875 fps/75 fpe. I don’t think it slaps the hammer as hard as the .25 std does I also have set at 915 FPS. At least 50 raccoons with it so far and a few opossums. A few dozen sparrows but it destroys feeders in a hurry. Just got one [raccoon] two days ago in broad daylight. πŸ˜› It seemed back then like the ones who tuned them up to 900 or more were breaking stems around 1000 shots or less. If one needs more than 75 fpe I might go with the long but I love how short and quiet mine is for that power level. Now if Donny can quiet the impact noise and crazy ricochet noise I heard a few times with the JSB 30s. Basically, like a 22 LR.

Hi SECoda,

Are your .30 valve stem still survival? How many shots it has taken so far? more raccoons?

quote SECoda:

I don’t see nearly the difference RIDE sees but my best groups with the R3 .30 are about 5/8″ at 50 yards where my best groups on my R3 .25 are under 1/2″. To achieve those groups I did do some limited pellet weighing and sorting (looking for defects). Normally, I see about 3/4″ at 50 yards out of the tin. Nearly ALL of the first 30s had a minor clipping issue which made the difference when I fixed it on my gun. Before that I was lucky to see an inch. I have killed maybe twenty-five raccoons with it (so far πŸ™‚ ) and the farthest one was about 75 yards. It puts the hurts on them. The gun is pretty quiet with the large muffler but there is no hiding that wallop on impact at 75 FPE. πŸ˜›

Forgot to mention. I am still going strong on the first valve stem at about 1650 shots. I know many have broken them. Maybe it is because mine is tuned at 875 fps on the standard model. I expect it will go at which point I will try to get the new hammer/spring/valve stem setup if possible.

aestheticbrah,,,, those groups are really nice ,,, i believe if you try and keep shooting more and more,,you will be able to get better groups, when you get used at 100 yards distance shooting ,,,

I got to shoot my Edgun R3M .25 again after being away for 10 weeks. Here are a few of the groups. My 50 yard groups were good but not great but I was much more happy with the 3 100 yard groups I shot. If anyone could perhaps explain how I got so-so 50 yard groups but good 100 yard groups, it’d be great. All groups were shot with JSB Kings at a 940ish feet/sec (I haven’t gotten a chance to chrony the Edgun) out of a factory Edgun.

Here’s the first group of 3 shots I shot at 25 yards. The shots to the right are from sighting in.

5 shots at 50 yards. I was adjusting the reticle horizontally in between shots.

5 shots at 50 yards.

5 shots at 50 yards. This group was shot today.

First 5-shot 100 yard group I shot.

Second 5-shot 100 yard group. At this point the Edgun started running out of air, so the pellets were gradually impacting lower and lower.

Third and last 4-shot group at 100. Note the even lower impact (I was aiming at the number 8 above it)

about 100 mpg with fuel injection yet it hits about 75 mph top end. My buddy hates that my scooter out accelerates his 1200 Harley out to 40 mph. πŸ˜† Harley guys hate Hondas anyways. They only wave at their own kind on the road.

Damm, SEcoda you have some nice toys. Love the scooter, now were talking gas mileage!!!

We were supposed to go out in the RV this weekend but our dealer didn’t finish the service on it. 😑

Was going to bring the new scooter for camping. πŸ˜€ Honda PCX 150

Doug, get off the puter and make some someores for the better half. Your mistress Lelya can wait.

Just saying
LarryW 😎 😎

Been looking at old target pics, all of my bigger bore guns show progressively more ragged holes, Lelya is just real clean and I assume due to being dialed down to 780 ish.

That Lelya 6 shot target from a few days ago in the other thread was stacked vertical with 4 of the 6 shots too. I think I am just a kick ass shot in horz. but I suck in vert. But as you say of the gun, maybe I have some potential for better groups with technique adjustments but I plink so damn much and never bear down on targets, so it is not likely to happen.

I always use those shoot-n-c targets on top of chloroplast ‘for sale’ signs and tend to get decent holes.

I don’t see any key-holing (except that Hoot: and Sir Ville do). Or was that corn-holing? :butkick:

Last post I gotta go, I’m busted for sitting at the puter :biggrinn: instead of carrying stuff to the camper.

Secoda !! I have never liked the lack of cleanness of the holes it punches in paper targets, do yours look like this. my Mod. shows no sign of clipping but I am going to look some more now, I still think most of the vert was me on the bench and a bit of rapid fire too, hot sun fresh fill from 100 bar, but that left/right is too good for normal, what is going on !! humm. I need to put the slo mo camera on it next and watch the pellets. I think they are just not as stable for some reason, let me know if yours punches clean holes, real curious.

.
Edit: The outlaws just called and all waiting till tomorrow morning to head to the campground yippie, to hot and save a few buck for a site tonight.

My gun was in the house, it got a quick fill from 100 bar to 3200 psi and took straight out into the hot 90+ degree sun and started shooting, I can make myself think there is something to this as a factor but it has never grouped left to right like that, I would have expected a normal scattering as It was never as tight as my other 22 or 25’s

Now Doug knows why the rest of us don’t post groups.

quote SECoda:

Hmmm. You have a vertical string. πŸ˜‰ I wonder why? I never posted because they only wanted longer range groups.

Maybe a sticky o ring in the reg causing velocity inconsistencies ?
Could explain the vertical shift, have you put it over the chrony recently ?
I used to get this with my .22 R3 standard when I had left it ‘unloved’ for a month or so, a reg strip down and lube seems to have this sorted now though πŸ˜€
Just use it more :4:
