Q:

Best Ammo Choice For .25 AAA Condor

I would like to know what is the the best ammo to run through one of these guns to get max distance and energy when it hits. I’m wanting to shoot for consistence at 100 yards with some knock down force still. If i could get a few different makers and what grain size you would go with to achieve all this please let me know thanks.

Agreed, you definitly want to have a go to pellet and set-up when you don’t need to hammer something with max power.

I am not taking away from your slugs Jerry , i have read allot about them and you have a good product, and i have been casting since i was around 18 so i know how much work you have into getting the successful product.

But a guy needs both for the .25 as far as i am concerned.

Your slugs for big critters, and jsb’s for the smaller stuff. 😀

Yup!!! Setting up a 2nd tank for just that!

24″

So Thenold, how long is your .25 barrel? I’m asking because I set up a tree stand to hunt pigs at just 15 yards and want to know if I could use these slugs in a 17 3/8″ barrel at that distance. I want to see if the slugs work at real short ranges and deliver more punch than a 44 grain EJ at 15 yards.

LOL,
I knew you would say something. 😉 😆

What i meant was JSB’s at 100 yards. not at 30 yards, You have good slugs , but i dont think they can shoot with the JSB’s at 100 yards can they. ❓

Two differant things , use your slugs for 100 foot pounds, use Jsb’s for one hole groups.

pb,

I’m not all twisted up! 😆

I will say though that I don’t see a bunch of JSB groups at 100 that are all that spectacular. Sometimes I see a great group with the light pellets at 100 but the back story is that there was 0 wind and conditions were just a touch better than perfect and the picture is the best group of a dozen…

One hole groups at 100 are rare as heck no matter how perfect the pellet/slug. The fact is that the shooter is not consistent and the conditions are almost never perfect (except for retired guys that can wait on perfect before shooting).

Honestly, I’ve been amazed at how accurate these heavy “hunting” slugs have turned out to be when the shooter does his part. Knife posted pics of a tiny little one hole group and Tofazfou posted a pic of a 100 yard group that was about an inch or so and of course the testing showed one hole groups at 50… The interesting point is that none of those groups were shot in a warehouse or under perfect conditions.

The physics of the equation work out well too. I don’t have the numbers for BC but I’ll bet the heavies have a higher BC than any of the pellets. The higher BC allowing better “wind bucking.” I have BC numbers for a bunch of the custom slugs we make but not for these… Hey, can I borrow your .25? 🙂

Anyhow, I’m biased (of course) but I’d be very cautious about comparing all of the 100 yard groups between the heavies and the JSBs or Kodiaks! I think the average might work out well for the heavies.

I do shoot jsb’s and benji domes much better. Maybe even better then before with what I have recently learned about hold. I’m not really expecting them to be 1 holers at 100 yrds. I’m trying to find my favorite hunting ammo that I’ll feel comfortable with out to 100 yrds. There are some coyote’s that come around at night looking to ambush the cats around here.
I purchased 6’s & 9’s that I haven’t even started with yet. My range at my house goes out to 120 yrds, so I will be able to get my skills up to hunt responsibly. I’m going to stick with these slugs until I have to go back down in weight by running out. Part of the reason the old lady put the brakes on my chrony purchase is the slug purchase and also just over 3000 jsb’s & benji’s. I’m actually glad she holds me back sometimes cuz I forget about bills when I want something.

Well, I’m shooting off an all weather plastic top picinic bench. I think your right about the bounce so now I will start shooting prone with the bipod feet in the dirt. When I get comfortable with that, try different ranges.

When I got that down I’ll need to order more 7’s.
By the way they do make a beautiful pop when they hit a squirrel. There was one taunting me about 45 yrds in a tree, showing me his asshole shaking his tail as fast as a rabbit fucks. I tried to fix his hemorrhoids but caught him just in front of his left rear quarter and it looks like it came out his right ear.

Oh sure, a minute ago it was all about JSBs!

if you look at the group it has the same string as your first target, just smaller.

what is that thing shooting for velocity guys do you think.

Amazing the difference set-up / technique can have! Instead of a string, you have a one hole group…well, at least until fate started f’ing with you!

Are you still shooting off the bipod? A bipod can make a big difference too and not always good, especially if the bipod rests on a hard surface. Your last group looks reall good but you might want to try shooting off a bag instead of the bipod for target stuff / grins. Since you’re going to hunt though, most of your practice will be off the bipod… you might lay something over the bench or table though so the pod doesn’t bounce.

Looking good dude!!! There is deff a major kick when using surefires!!!

well I learned couple things today while trying to tighten up my groups.

#1 the guage on my hill pump is off by 150 lbs, low.
#2 I needed a firmer shoulder hold.

Today I started with a fresh 3k fill off scuba and tuned the pw all the way up. Not having a chrony yet I dont know if that helped, but I decided to change my hold. All that I really did was press the butt more firm than normal and this is what happened.
needs improvement but its a step in the right direction. 😕

Well it’s a big pot , 😉

Hell when you get that thing dialed in it will shoot 1” or so at that distance. With the pellet that it likes the best . (JSB’s ) 🙄

Yeah get some numbers and run it through chairgun. You will get the most appropriate zero to use.
