Hey guys, I’ve been on this forum as you know almost 24/7 hahhaha. I really enjoy interacting with everyone especially on a topic/hobby that I love as a kid and was recently re-ignited. I find myself going full speed into it and learning as much as I can of a world I never knew existed. Thanks to the inter-nerd(internet) we’ve been able to connect with so many like minded people around the world. I thank all the non-english speaking members who are trying their hardest to contribute through a translator. Even on topics not related to air guns, I am always interested in learning about where people are from and their cultures. So this thread is to try to get to know some of you guys a little better rather than your screen names. I personally like to address people by their first name rather than their screen name like Rocketlauncher lol, that is just an example by the way. I would understand if you do not feel comfortable with it, feel free to browse through 🙂

Below is a picture of my backyard. Not the biggest but big enough for us. Behind the white fence is a large conservation area. I’ve seen rabbits, squirrels, snakes and bobcats back there when I remove a section of it to access the back.
My other interest is gardening, we have over 20 fruit trees in the back. Mangos, pappya, grape fruit, blue berry, peach, and persimmons just to name a few.

And of course my little family. My wife is Mexican, I am Vietnamese so I guess that makes my son Filipino?

Iraq has passed several situations during the last 35 years, now we are as a Kurdistan Region and Kurdish citizens, we have our own government & policy and especially our own force we call them (Peshmarga), here in Kurdistan we have a very tight security, you can ask US army who they were fighting in Iraq and visited Kurdistan, all US marinze knows that Kurdistan is very secure and they were definitely safe in our lands, all explosions that you might hear in the news it is from south Iraq not North (Kurdistan), currently there are so many US nationality they are working here.

I agree Syn, those are very unique and I can tell took many hours. Ernest thank you for your entry, if you were nearby, I would pest you for sniper stories. Even if you never shot anyone, just the training to become a Seal and on top of that a sniper is no walk in the park. There’s a documentary in Netflix that follows recruits around through their trials. Not many make it through the program so my hat off to you Ernest. Your knowledge of real guns are valuable in this forum as well. My younger brother is actually in NJ today meeting his girlfriend’s family for the first time hahaha, best wishes to him. He has one year left at UCONN and will be graduating in Pharmacy. My wife works for the Veteran’s Hospital here in Orlando. She loves it.

My Name?
Ernest Rowe (age 56), and I’m full Filipino, got my last name from my American step father when I was 5 years old. Father retired from the US AF, and I retired from the US Navy, 6 years as a navy Seal (sniper) transferred to surface sailor as marine engineer for 14 years. Yes been a lot of places. Married with two kids. I work at home –> lapidary shop making custom stone rings jewelry http://www.ringofartist.com. now you know I love to polish with all the right equipment’s. I made this front page web site with no experience, simple just the way I want it.
Live 3 block from GWB in New Jersey, so I don’t have a large backyard like yours. most of my shooting are in the backyard as a sniper, no air gun shooting here unless at a gun range—-> so I have to be extra quite!.
When I can’t shoot I love to take air guns apart and tune them, as you can see on my video I posted on YouTube. Been shooting AG since 6 years old, started in the black hills of South Dakota with a Daisy pumper.

Thanks – some luck played into that – especially avoiding layoffs that bankrupted some of my coworkers back when. I also had some training in investing and boosted my accounts by a decent sum and protected them from several crashes (like 2008) or it wouldn’t have been possible. With the current Admin pumping in QE to make things look better than they really are playing the market became tougher in the last 5 years. Capitalism has kind of left the building. 😯
I don’t remember what life was like before the WWWW 🙂 You did good Brant, not many could say that they could retire before 60 in this economy, maximize their 401k for that many years along with bonuses. You’re going to have an awesome retirement.
You have to remember I am an old guy (56) – ok not in Hoot territory but… BS 79 MBA 81. I was an Internal Auditor for a year (100,000 air miles every 6 months) and then moved into IT. I will hit 30 years in IT on September 13th. Its been a great gig – especially the first 25 years. I did every job development wise including programmer, analyst, DBA, data modeler, PM, and Architect. I even developed a few web applications – one in Java in the late 90s and then MTS/COM first and then .NET mainly with Oracle after that. I got the MCSE certification back in the 90s but never kept it current. It was more for a networking background. I even had a stint with global communications (before the WWW) for collection financial data at one company around the world. Mainframes, AS400s, Unix, and Windows servers and PCs. I have been at the manager level for about 15 years now and work from home full time with no direct reports in this latest role for a large company. I turned down a director job because I like to play way too much. Architecture is abstract modeling in a couple of tools and making technology recommendations (white papers) rather than coding which is also fun. They pay me more for doing a lot less and they don’t tend to outsource that job (and there is nothing my company likes to do more than outsource and layoff even as they make record earnings). 😯 BTW – My nephew has been doing web design for about 10 years too for a University.
I am getting close to the big R now and would like to shoot air guns full time in less than a year (and can only do it because my wife and I maxed out our 401ks for the last 25 years and even saved after tax). Preferably after my annual bonus next spring. 😀 :4: IT is still a great field but smaller companies tend to be a lot better places to work even with a little less pay. I started working for a smaller company with 1200 employees and it was great. We got bought by a company with 4500 employees and things definitely took a step down (except for pay). We were then acquired by the 35,000 employee company I work for now and it just plain sux. I would leave if it wasn’t for the vacation, pay, and bonuses (I got to keep my service years through the acquisitions). I only work from home still because they like avoiding the real estate costs. I guess it’s all a tradeoff. That is about the long and short of it. 🙂

Sir Ville, nice group shot at your shooting range. Growing up I was into BMX. My family couldn’t afford to buy me even a Huffy so I went to a nearby dump and pieced together one. I have to say, the bikes came out pretty cool and even at the early age of around 11 or 12, I sanded them down, primed them and painted them. My next phase of life i would like to concentrate on learning kickboxing or Jiu Jitsu. I am a big MMA fan and hardly ever miss a UFC event starting back in 2005. Speaking of which there is one tonight.
Hemn, I am guilty of assuming that you automatically have a liquor store or a gas station. See what society made me believe?? Just kidding, all seriousness though you did paint a different picture in my mind as to what Iraq looks like. I envisioned a war torn country still trying to bounce back but based on your occupation and your family’s I see opportunities for their citizens.
Brant – Enterprise Application Architect? Sounds nerdy but very cool. I got my college degree in Management Information Systems from UCONN. I mainly focused on Systems Networking. However when I graduated the economy sucked ass and I landed a web design position instead. 12 yrs later I am still doing it 🙂 Do you deal with Java?

Donny – i see you are a owner of a Pit Bull. We have two dogs of that marvellous breed. Funniest dogs ever ! We had a Rottweiler too but he died soon after my accident in the mature age of 13. RIP, Max Factor von Messerschmidt … :6:
