Carette 4500 PSI Compressor Report

The Carette 4500 compressor is a Chinese compressor that seeks to fill the price performance gap between “big boy” dive compressors and Shoebox compressors.

Mr. Wang has kindly supplied a demonstrator unit for testing. As a demonstrator unit rather than a final production unit, the test unit may not match the appearance and configuration of the actual shipped units. This one included a PMV, high pressure air filter unit and automated condensate drain system. I do not know if those features will be in the final configuration. I have been told that the external finish will be better on the actual units. Also, the crankshaft bearing and rods will be more durable than those on this demonstrator.

I had hoped to be testing a unit that is an actual production sample, but because this is a demonstrator unit, bear in mind that the shipped product may differ from what I am testing. This does affect my ability to report whether the machine is a thumbs up or down. If the production units are worse than what I’m testing, I certainly wouldn’t be happy, nor would our forum members. On the other hand, I am getting very appropriate and encouraging responses from the manufacturer regarding my findings. Mr. Wang (Sincere) is actively improving the machine based on my comments.

For instance, he was ready about make changes regarding current draw based on my measurements. I don’t think changing the current draw would be worth it, if it slows the compressors. Also, the amount of oil I see in the condensate was already a known issue on this demonstrator. They already have a different component that cuts the oil bypass to 1/3 what I’m seeing. The oil bypass even on this demonstrator isn’t horrible. He’s also planning how to integrate the air filter on the compressor frame. It’s that type of desire to make a better product that I want in a manufacturer.

Rather than the demonstrator being perfect and production machines worse, we could end up with better production machines. However, I can only report what I am seeing and won’t speculate on what will actually ship to you. On the other hand, I have the impression that Mr. Wang actually does intend to deliver what he promises.

Jungle what oil was you running? That’s really strange about the oil breathers. Did you post any place about it? cause I sure missed hearing bout your troubles. I use chemlub 800 and I haven’t noticed hardly any change in oil color.

60 hrs sounds good. And I agree on how quiet it is. It sounds like a sawing machine and I barely hear it running behind a door. Auto blow is definitely louder.

However, mine is at 14 hour on the meter and it has blown a safety burst disk and melted 2 oil breather caps (threads got melted and separated) and got low cylinder seized once so far. The seize got fixed by crank it manually with a wrench and hands. And JB sent those oil breathers quite fast though.
Maybe mine is a defect????

It is up and running for now but wondering when it will stop again. Guess only time will tell.

60 hour oil change. No drama. Holding my cheap sound meter at eye level standing next to compressor 80dba, placing the meter down between both cylinders 94dba. Pretty darn quiet. When it blows off it’s 104dba.

Thanks for the update. The lack of drama is good news.

50 hrs on this unit only thing I’ve did is bleed air out the coolant hoses. No other problems to report.

There was lots of confusion about configuration and pricing.

I checked today and got things clarified.

The base Carette without PMV and autodrain is $1399 + shipping.

However, IF AND ONLY IF YOU MENTION THE FORUMS while ordering, they will include the PMV and autodrain for $1399 + shipping.

Being a forum member really helps out.

Also, the current shipments of compressors arriving at JB’s do NOT have the Carette filter with them. That was supplied by the manufacturer just for the early birds.

Nice review and those flir images looked interesting.

Marko

That is outstanding!!
Thank you for your efforts!

Hi,
I’m from Belgium and bought the standard model (without PMV and automatic draining) in Europe at the European dealer.
I did some temperature checks on the compressor block and I come to the same conclusions as the review here.
This is a FLIR image of the compressor after 60min full load. The temperature stayed stable.

The cylinder heads are successfully being cooled, only the first cylinder wall gets somewhat warm @67C or 152F.

Other FLIR images can be found on http://blog.debrakeleer.com/2017/04/carette-300-bar-compressor.html

Latest word on delivery timing….

Their motor suppliers were delayed delivering the motors for the compressors….

quote :

…..Today Sincere is going to receive the first batch of motors from Shanghai factory which is for Joe’s first order.
And the motors from another factory in Fujian province just send out the motors yesterday. I guess after two or three days Sincere will receive them. Those are for early list buyers.

So basically, the early list buyers shall receive the compressor around 10th to 15th,April.
And Brancato may receive the first batch around early May.

We are really sorry for all the delay.

Best Regards,
Bosun

Ok thanks, I guess it’s just a waiting game now

I doubt anyone would have received one of the production units yet. Last I read, they weren’t expected to arrive until end of March / early April.

So has anyone received a production model yet? I’m interested in getting one from airtanksforsale but wanted to hear a few more reviews.

My #35 shoebox is still going but could be retired after hundreds of hrs of use

quote guykuo:

Just heard from Bosunhu that those units at Mrodair are definitely NOT from Sincere, but appear to be someone outright copying their older, Chinese market compressor.

quote :

Sincere just made some judgement from their photos of the compressor. This compressor photo is definitely from someone who contacts with Mrodair in China. And you please notice the scraping marks in the wire box. That is originally Chinese Characters.

This is a new low…. someone actively making themselves a seller of rip-off product. :angrymob:

Meanwhile the legitimate maker, who is actually using good components, is still working hard to find US dealership(s).

Worse, yet. Nobody knows what kind of parts are inside these units. Just because they look alike outside, there is no assurance of what is inside. Selling a look-alike threatens to ruin Carrette’s reputation with unpredictable quality clones.

YES what you stated is what I received in email , from Bosun Also, & I was ready to give up on the Carrette, before reading your post & receiving the email from Bosun..
